It works. Thank you! I think this may just be a case of German engineering crossing over into the miracle realm.

Sorry I tried it, it does absolutely nothing although I did learn that some people call the end of a pen lid a finneal. The bit that seems loose on mine is right down the bottom of the lid where it clicks on. However I did fix the problem. What I use is the lid from a plastic never-ending pencil which looks just like a Lamy pen. Fits perfectly. Only works on Safari though, not Al-Star.
I've had the same problem on every Lamy pen that I've used in the last few years; sooner or later, the cap wears out which is a real shame as they're some of the best fountain pens in that price range.
*PS I first used Lamy pens in the 1990s, never had any cap problems then. But I've got through 2 Al-Stars and a Safari in the last few years. Had ill-fitting lid problems on all 3!

Weird! It worked like a charm for both of mine. Unfortunately, over time most snap cap pens will eventually wear out.

Great video. Wish I'd known about this before I sold off my charcoal Safari. Wonder how repeatable this hack is though... 🤔

Hopefully you won't have to repeat it. I haven't had any more problems with any of my Safaris.

Unfortunately, my loose cap is on a Lamy Safari Red and White. This pen doesn't have a cross on the finial but a circle (a small dot). Thanks anyway for posting what worked for you.

Darn! That's a weird loophole (no pun intended). You could try popping the finial off and then reassembling the pen. There's some risk involved, but I've seen it done. DoodleBud has a good video where he completely disassembles a Safari. I recommend checking it out.

Thanks for this tutorial. I will definitely try that on my Lammy Safari.

Is it possible that you finial and popped up slightly and all you did was push back in?

That's an interesting question. It's possible. It hasn't happened since, so I honestly don't know what the deal was.

You can also put the empty cap for 2-3 minutes in hot water and let it dry and cool down. This shrinks the elastomeric cap lining back to its original dimensions. Do not put the pen back while it is still warm. It should cool down while it is empty.
By hot I mean around 70-80 degrees C. Do not boil the cap.
It is my personal method. I do not take any responsibility about the consequences.

Brilliant! Like you said, this is definitely something to be careful with, but I could totally see this working if all else fails.

Awesome! Thank you, just tried a few quarter turns clockwise and the cap sealing is tighter. Now I need to find the other Vista that was even looser 😅

    Can you make video about😅
Lamy safari vs🤔 twsbi eco Showdown?
Cost per value, long lasting, or else 😉

    • @DowntheBreatherHole
      @DowntheBreatherHole  Год назад

That would be a great video! Thanks for the suggestion! The only problem is that both of my TWSBI Ecos are cracked right now. So the Lamy Safari wins 100 percent where durability is concerned. One of these days, I'll either repair or replace the barrels of my Ecos, and then I could do a good comparison video.

Unfortunately this didn't work for me. My finial is a screw -- the pen is from the late 80s -- and the fix did not work for me. Also my AL-Stars are so old, that they also have the same "X" finial as the Safari.

The old and new Safari and Al-star fountain pens have the x-shaped finial, but yeah, the old ones, from what I've heard, have a different inside.

It didnt work for me, sadly. Although! Ive found another way: You need to disassemble the cap, and wrap the black little barrel tightly with cellofan! Theres a RUclips video for that, too. Also it wasnt difficult at all.
But your approach seems like black magic lol. That is good to know that this issue can potentially be fixed in this way.

That's good to know! Thanks! My method does feel like magic. I still don't know why it worked for me and for others who have watched this video.

Sorry to hear that! Someone recently commented with another idea. Maybe you can find that and try it.
