  • Three weeks after becoming a dad, Jakob Ingebrigtsen wastes no time in his return to the Diamond League circuit with a 3:26.73 victory in the 2024 Monaco Diamond League 1500m.
    That's the fastest time in the world since Asbel Kiprop’s 3:26.69 on the same track in 2015, a 3+ second season’s best, and the 6th fastest 1500m ever behind Kiprop, Bernard Lagat, and three Hicham El Guerrouj performances.

    Jakob seems very intelligent after watching all of his interviews over the years and I think he has a disdain for dumb or rhetorical questions. He considers himself a professional and probably expects the same around him.

      @@alansamuel2454 We shouldn't guess at who is is targeting what because we don't know and most do not discuss the matter publicly. The reality is that all of the main protagonists are most likely to be targeting the gold next month rather than any WR because it is the biggest event of all to win....plus Jakob wants to be only the second man to retain an Olympic title over 1500m. Jakob's big disadvantage though in Paris is that he is not the fastest finisher, albeit not very far off, so needs the race to be super quick to kill the finish in others like Josh and Timothy but this time without the help of pacemakers which are not allowed by the IOC.

      @@david2804me True with regards to the Olympics not usually being WR season but in general, it's obvious Jakob is aiming for the WR's. No need for it to be said. He's actually attempted to and succeeded in some already and is now not too far in the 1500 and mile and even the immortal 3000 m considering his 2 time time. Kerr has a different goal, medals, he's not really tried to go for any WR. I don't think he has the potential to either.
      I can give you that it will be harder for Jakob to win gold without the Pacers, but I will place my bets on him this time. Let's wait and see.

    • @david2804me

      @@alansamuel2454 well you’re good at mind-reading then because I wouldn’t pretend to know what anyone’s intentions are. Guesswork aside, it would be crazy brave for Jakob to go for a WR in an Olympic final if that’s what you meant. He is clearly close enough now to be capable of the WR but he is not so far ahead of at least a couple of others to not risk screwing it up by running himself too fast and out of medal contention. It’ll be a great watch.

    • @alansamuel2454
      @alansamuel2454 22 дня назад +1

      @@david2804me Bro please be real, Jakob went for the WR in the 2 mile and the 2000 m and got it. He doesn't run with pacers simply for the fun of it, he's trying to ascertain how far he's from the WR and wants to break it for sure. He's been doing this from a long time, he's held back for years from doing things all out and only in the last few years has he started making serious momentum towards the WR's. He doesn't have to do it to win most championships, there's hardly anyone who can keep pace once he's at that speed although most improved massively themselves kinda like Rudisha did but he ain't got any competition forcing his hand. He's running with pacers and the occasional insane time only so he can eventually get the WR's.
      But yes, that means he can't run that fast in major races like the Olympics where no pacers are allowed, I can agree with that. In fact, I said exactly that he ain't going to run a WR in the Olympic final, I meant outside of major championships he's aiming for the WR's.
      Most likely it will be won in a time of 3:28 or 3:29.

      All true but Cheruiyot was not a come and go type. He was the 4th fastest in 2016, 2nd fastest in 2017, had the seasons best from 2018 to 2021, and remained in the top 5 performances from 2022 to 2024 except 2022 where he was 8th best only. For a couple of years, he WAS the man to beat, even for Jakob. One Olympics gold, one WC gold, one WC silver, 5 diamond leagues from 2016 to 2021 sure is consistent. But yea he sort of was happy with 3:28 and victories and I don't think he had the hunger or even belief he could get the WR which Jakob does and has had for a long time. Jakob wants to WRs in everything from the 1500 to the 5000 and I think he can do it except maybe not the 5000. The remaining athletes, they sure are.

JK will beat him again if the pace is fast from the start and is able to sit in to the final 200/300m and accelerates to 50 second 400m pace. 40 years ago Cram had the ability to run classic quick final 400m 🎉
