  • Harold Clayton Lloyd Sr. (1893-1971) was an American actor, comedian, director, producer, screenwriter, and stunt performer who is best known for his silent comedy films. Lloyd ranks alongside Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton as one of the most popular and influential film comedians of the silent film era.
This video mainly showcases Harold's incredible stunts in an age of no CGI or safety precautions available.
It was quite literally Safety Last!
    Edited by Paul Hagl

    Music by Hans Zimmer.

During the Fire truck hose stunt (3:25) as the hose unspooled Harold was struck in the forehead by a buckle that came loose from the hose. He was knocked out cold and fell from the back. His film crew thought he had fractured his skull. But after they carried him to a doctor's office and he was stitched up, he went right back to the filming. They could cut and splice film back then so his accident was removed from the action. This is documented in several Lloyd biographies.
At 4:50 we see part of a longer Harold on the roof of a moving train sequence. That was done with "undercrank" on those hand cranked cameras. The train was actually slowed down and the part of the sequence we see here on playback as the train was approaching the tunnel seems much faster than the actual filming speed. Also Harold Lloyd Facebook page had a production still from that film showing Harold carrying on his shoulders the stunt man (wearing Harold's suit) who went through the tunnel on the train. Harold did the earlier part of this sequence. Fearless or suicidal or maybe a bit of both.

I have been a firm fan of Harold's for years and have studied his stunts in detail but this is the first time I have learnt about this particular accident. Well we learn something new every day!
Thanks for this info Jack. You are a fount of knowledge!

@@ladywalker8200 Happy New Year, and thank you. The accident is mentioned in "Harold Lloyd. Magic in a pair of Horn-Rimmed Glasses " by Annette D'Agostino, published 2009. She quotes from the Girl Shy press book. Six stitches to the forehead. Our favorite was a brave lad.

@@jackmorrison7379 Happy New Year I really must invest in that book I have been promising myself for ages!! I seem to spend all my time defending Harold from people who say his stunts are fake. Why they pick on him and not Buster or Charlie I don't know I think it is because he was open about his work.
He was very brave and a true stuntman in every sense.

Three Stooges were / are / will always be horrible ... I hate their movies ..to me .. just not funny ... just my humble opinion... NONE of their films or skits were funny ... I see only abuse and physical pain in their films .... nothing more ... UGH.. total miserable waste of time. I never bother with them ...A Sickening waste of time.. 😝😬😮😝🤮🤮🤮

Please don't celebrate the Three Stooges films / skits... just my humble opinion ... with the violence in this world increasing with every day that goes by , does our increasingly bloodshedding society really need more of a forum for more needless bloodshed and horrid violence of EVERY conceivable kind?!?? It is NOT any kind of positive benefit to the human condition... Promoting violence of their brand is SOOO anti - human... Please let them rest in their graves ... Do not ressurrect their film works .. for ANY reason... We as a people need more civility and PEACE ☮️🕊️✌️ in our increasingly hostile society and on this crumbling , self - destructing planet ... NOT Less ... Please will you think about this very , very carefully ... It is not beneficial for humankind... Please let the idea leave your brain .. Please , Please .. .be part of the solution .. instead of part of the problem .☹️😔😭😬. Thank You So Much ..🤨🙂☺️🤔😏🌐🍀🍀🍀. ..✌️✌️✌️🕊️🕊️🕊️☮️☮️☮️☮️☮️☮️☮️☮️👀
