Happy Throwback Thursday. This week I bring out my interview from a couple of years ago with the incomparable Sir Anthony Hopkins. This is a must watch! Make sure to comment below and subscribe for more videos!
great interview .i find it troubling to see how much of Sir Anthony went into Hannibal Lecter's character in silence of the lambs.his art and his vibrant enthusiasm with life plus the obsession with death are fascinating to me .his characters in other movies like "meet Joe black" seem to be also mirroring the actor's personality .i think i love almost everything about him and at the same time his shrewd intelligence keeps me on guard .as far as chaos goes(in reference to his art gallery presentation) he is one organized mind ,paradox?
The guy is 81 years old, already won his oscar and general praise in hollywood, but yet he found some free space in his calendar to do Westworld and deliver one of the greatest performances that medium has seen in decades.
He does painting, he writes and compose music, he has exquisite taste for food.... OMG he truly is Hannibal in real life... And he often identifies himself as badass... Who wouldn't want to admire him?
and he is and sounds very welsh. altogether he is just great and sounds very southing. But I particularly like his paintings, it's amazing how versatile he is. It seems like he is really good at everything he does.
A few months ago, Sir Anthony returned to Wales and was just walking around a market talking to people and having photos taken, he had time for everyone. He's a true legend and gentleman.
He's extremely charismatic. Even when he's playing the most vile monsters you can't help but be mesmerized by him. We're probably going to lose a lot of wonderful actors in the next ten years. Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Ian McKellen and him. It's a nightmare.
RIP Larry King, I didn't know he died. He was a very nice interviewer, he allowed his guests to talk without interrupting, which is something hard to find these days.
He started as a mimic and a musician. He is naturally shy, and was recently diagnosed as on the spectrum. Everything fundamental about him is now completely clear to me; his distance; his warmth, the slight steeliness and the sunny smile. Here is a man who, when asked 'how do you feel?' will *THINK ABOUT HOW HE FEELS* before answering. A perfect acting machine but no robot.
He's likely an aspie. But he's got a great handle on it, I'm jealous. My social skills are atrocious. I was diagnosed with asperger 6 months ago. I'm 50.

Sir Anthony is such an inspiration. I am currently having treatment for thyroid cancer and have been quite upbeat and positive throughout. However, I was having a little wobble today until I watched the Dresser and then came on to RUclips and watched this interview. It really put things back into perspective for me and I am now sitting here with a huge smile on my face and feeling so much better. Thank you Sir Anthony. XX
He can impersonate the voice of Lawrence Olivier perfectly. I don’t recall the movie, but he provided the voice for Olivier, who died before completing the movie.
@@MB-cx2ks It was for Spartacus. A great classic. Olivier did complete the film long before he died, but they did a special edition later with cut footage that they no longer had the sound for added back in. Hopkins dubbed over the extra footage playing Crassus, Olivier's character. I honestly never noticed the difference between what was Hopkins' Olivier impersonation and Olivier's actual voice in the film.
@@JRRLewis Thank you! Even knowing that Anthony Hopkins dubbed parts of Lawrence Olivier’s dialogue, I could not distinguish the difference. Unrelated to this, but on the subject of voices, I am entranced listening to Richard Burton, Ronald Coleman, and John Hurt.
17:10 didn't even take a moment to get into character and knocked it out of the ball park. What a LEGEND. What a wonderful interview, he is delightful and easy going, so positive, lover of life.
Beautiful response from Hopkins when asked about having any regrets: "No; don't have time to regret. We move on; because we're acceptable for who are, not what we think we should be" His quote of poetry was also very nice, but, it is not Edgar Allan Poe he's quoting, it's a poem by Ernest Dowson called "Vitae Summa Brevis Spem Nos Vetat Incohare Longam": "They are not long, the weeping and the laughter, Love and desire and hate: I think they have no portion in us after We pass the gate. They are not long, the days of wine and roses: Out of a misty dream Our path emerges for a while, then closes Within a dream." Hopkins, very forgivably, mistakes it with Edgar Allan Poe's, A Dream within a Dream: "Take this kiss upon the brow! And, in parting from you now, Thus much let me avow - You are not wrong, who deem That my days have been a dream; Yet if hope has flown away In a night, or in a day, In a vision, or in none, Is it therefore the less gone? All that we see or seem Is but a dream within a dream. I stand amid the roar Of a surf-tormented shore, And I hold within my hand Grains of the golden sand - How few! yet how they creep Through my fingers to the deep, While I weep - while I weep! O God! Can I not grasp Them with a tighter clasp? O God! can I not save One from the pitiless wave? Is all that we see or seem But a dream within a dream?" Anyway, writing this just in case anyone was going to quote him or whatever. Fantastic interview all round; Larry King was great; really enjoyed this!
How many people grew up being scared, mesmerized, intrigued, wanting to try and act because of this man? And hes just a great human being behind it all
I'm an actor ... and I got knighted .. oh, and I orchestrated five symphonies ... and I paint ... I have an art show of my paintings. This man is a real gem. Could listen to him all night.
Hopkins was beyond brilliant in westworld, the show is intelligent and its projected amazingly well through Hopkins. Incredible actor and an even better person.
It's one of those films that show that bad things can happen to good people. At the end when he lies flat, and the outcome that gently brings. I was disheartened and shocked, but it was a critical moment of growth too. I'm still shocked by it, a good man inviting and welcoming the end.
I am so grateful to you Larry for your fantastic interview with Sir Anthony. He has always been a special favorite of mine. He refers to himself as a "bad ass" just brought so much joy to me; he is so very humble and special. Thank you again I enjoy all your questions and style of your interviews.
There's no way to sum up my thoughts about Sir Anthony Hopkins. I will say that the combination of an amazing talent and humility in a person is astounding to experience.
