    Love this guy and his work! "Flexitarianism" needs more emphasis. I eat meat when I want to, which is not that often because I've gradually learned to love plants more and more. But when I DO eat meat, it's even better than before because it's a real treat.

    I like Dan, however I find it interesting that he is able to see that alcohol in moderation might be part of healthy living, but despite his own research findings is so dogmatic about not eating meat. Yes processed meats are clearly toxic, however the research doesn't hold up that moderate intake of meat is unhealthy if you eliminate processed meat, and people in blue zones eat unprocessed meat, as well as drinking a bit.

    • @moniquemichelle7295
      @moniquemichelle7295 4 месяца назад

      Yup. Japanese are some of the longest living in the world and eat meat but minimize processed foods. The Mediterranean as well. Quality meat in moderation isn’t the problem. It’s the processed food and lack of movement.

    The better question to ask than, "do you eat meat", is "how much processed food do you eat?". There seems to be this raging debate between people who eat meat and people who don't eat meat, but really, the debate should be between the people who eat fake food and real food. People in Greece and Sardinia eat a fair amount of fish and meat, don't they?

    There is a lot of debate on health benefits of eating meat or not eating meat, but I would encourage people to see beyond the health and consider the general desire to not hurt another living thing, both animals and the planet, as a reason to cut back or quit meat. The question of whether to eat meat or not cannot just be one of individual health, but does the act of eating meat line up with your environmental or ethical values. In making this statement I would like to say that for some people eating meat is of great importance to their health, as has been shown in peoples with significant autoimmune diseases, epilepsy, and possibly other significant health issues where elimination diets that cut out everything besides meat is beneficial. I understand this and am in noway passing judgement, but rather a thought experiment for some to consider. Peace my friends!

    • @joela248

      I understand where you are coming from, and I think most people don't want to see other living organisms hurt or killed either. However, there cannot be life without death. This may sound trite and harsh, but it is an undeniable truth. Whatever diet or lifestyle of eating a person chooses, there will be blood on his/her hand (yes, including a vegan lifestyle). But there exists regenerative farming practices that are carbon neutral and help sequester carbon emissions in the ground soil. There exists humane ways of raising and harvesting/ending animals' lives for the purpose of nourishing the lives of our own.

Truly have no desire to live past her, and also have no desire to live life as some fragile person who can't take care of themselves. I Iost all my grandparents by the time I was 10. I have seen enough death and suffering. The suffering is far worse though.

    Prof G- as a data guy you didn't ask about the Oxford Uni and ANU analysis that there is a correlation between people who are now 100+ and pockets of corrupt City officials who would allow people to increase their age on official documents so they could get a government retirement benefit earlier, and the correlation between old age and areas with bad birth certificate record keeping. Everything else appears logical and sound, but that is the 100kg salami in the room that you didn't ask about. Big fan in general but this needs examination.

    Very elitist to say that gas should be 3x as expensive, so people “figure out public transportation”.
    I’m German-American. I grew up in Berlin, lived in Germany for 30 years and live now as a Citizen in the SF Bay Area. I’m used to amazing public transportation options. And have none now.
    My office is 1hr away in Sunnyvale. With perfect traffic 1hr (8pm for example). There isn’t anything resembling a public transportation alternative for me. It would take me 4-5hrs or more with an array of buses and trains.
    Higher gas prices wouldn’t fix that. Maybe study the problems of the commoners next.

    • @MrFuzzydumplings
      @MrFuzzydumplings 4 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, I think if I was answering that question I would say that I would design efficient and useful public transportation links instead of simply upping the prices of fuel. I live in Ireland and one of the things they do to try and reduce car use is to make fuel more expensive. Yet there is often no viable public transportation in place for people. So they wonder why people drive when a 15 min commute in a car, takes over an hour by public transport. So it just prices people out of car ownership and decreases quality of life.

    • @vme90-y7l

      Higher gas prices would certainly make people rethink driving these enormous ridiculous SUVs and driving at 85 miles an hour.

    The plant-based advice is really half-baked. Better advice is to get your metabolism in order, manage insulin and prioritize protein and muscle as you age. Everything health-wise (including cognitively) largely rests on your ability to use and store energy.

      There are numerous large-scale nutrition studies (like the China Study) that provide enormous evidence for the benefits of a plant-based diet. Importantly, it's also a diet that is sustainable for the planet and has a high rate of people being able to stick to it, unlike many fad diets.

      10,000% agree. More protein and healthy fat. And of course reduce to eliminate processed food. Which is inherent in your comment. Japanese and Mediterranean eat meat, just no or not a lot of processed foods. Processed food and lack of movement are the main enemies here.
