Goodness! Five years later and so many videos I watched from this channel and this is exactly the fix I was trying to find to hook up mics to the iPhone with a gimbal that has a motor that close to the phone’s port. I feel so silly finding it so late!!! Now wondering if there is a 90 degree USB-c to 3.5 mm adapter for the upcoming iPhone 15 Pros??? Maybe a third party Android/Samsung/Google phone company has one??? Next year is my “year of creativity” and a big push for my hiking and outdoor channel again. New phone, new Rode wireless Pro and a new gimbal like the Smooth (along with the new Davinci iPad and camera apps) should be a fun and exciting year 😊❤

The Smooth 4 pan arm does hit the knurled tightening wheel on the mic. I just discovered this with the Movo VXR10 mic. If you flip the cold shoe mount over and put the red screw at the back, the Smooth 4 arm clears it.
Thank you so much for this very informative video, and for the links. We bought the whole set-up and it works beautifully. My only gripe is that there's no adjustment available on the mic angle. As it's a directional mic, and I hold the gimbal at 45 degrees in most situations, the mic ends up pointing at the floor. I've found I can get round this by using two rubber bands instead of the ring adapter to hold the mic cradle shoe. This means I can alter the angle between 90 degrees and 45 degrees.
You could purchase a mini ball head and put that in between the microphone and the cold shoe That would allow you to adjust it to any angle. Some ball had to purchase have a cool shoe plate on the bottom and that would be needed

This is a really good video, thank you:) My Zhiyun Smooth 4 can't seem to support the weight of it all, as the bottom red light goes on and the motor stops working. The arm is out to its maximum and is still a little too heavy on the side of the mic attachment. Any thoughts on this?
I have the iPhone 7 plus and the arm on the smooth 4 won't slide out far enough to balance the phone. I just ordered counterweights but if there's something I'm missing about the arm adjustment, I'd like to know. Also, I have the Movo VXR-10 and hooked it up just like you did the Rode above and I have no audio when I do a mic test coming from the mic using Filmic Pro or the iPhone camera.

With the combination as recommended, my experience is that the Lightning adapter makes a constant and unusable crackle sound when plugged into my iPhone 11, not however on my iPhone 6S.

Good video. I used the set up for the first time tonight and thought it worked great. Fortunately, I was only shooting a basketball game so the problem I discovered isn't a big deal in this case; however, using the ZY Play App, the audio and video are out of sync. I just tested this with myself speaking and confirmed. However, if I record using the iPhone's standard camera app audio and video sync fine. Have you run into this problem? Do I need to abandon the ZY app? Should I? Can I? (I know I'll lose functions like zoom but that may not be critical to me).

Hi, A few questions and really hope you have time to respond. I have a Rode SC6-L interview but when I hook it up with FilmMcPro all is good until I have to use an adapter as you show. Where did you get that adapter? Mine doesn't allow the Rode to be recognized. I want to use the gimbal but I can't. Finally, can you advise where you got that bracket right that you use to attach the rode mic too? Thanks
I need a gimbal and I am planning to buy a Zhiyun smooth 4 to use with my LG V10 phone. Internet says this phone weighs 195g where the maximum working load for the Zhiun smooth 4 is around 210g. Would this phone work along with this gimbal safely? Is there a possibility of motor damage? Is there any better option with slightly more capable to handle this bulky phone within this price range? Look forward to finding a good solution. Help appreciated.
The TZ-001 mounting ring does not match the one that show on the video and Adorama does not list that it fits the Smooth 4. It also does not have a cold shoe attached, only the ring. Where did you get yours?

When I use the TRS to TRSS cable the sound doesn’t sound good. The mic you’re using in this video is the Mic Me? Do you know if this TRS to TRSS cable is supposed to work on my mic too? No it only really works with this unit

I think this gimbal is more than adequate. It’s probably your best bet as some of the other gimbals on the market are kind of week I find

I use the Saramonic SR-M3 with my Smooth 4. Does the bracket interfere with the pan axis at all, even though it's mounted on the stationary neck?
