  • Woohoo! 🎉🥳 The long awaited re-release from Yokomo has finally arrived!! And I'm like a kid on Christmas morning again! 😁 I'm not normally one for doing unboxing videos, but as it seems we're getting it before the rest of the world I guess it's my solemn duty to unbox on camera. 😅😁
    Apologies for the rather hastily put together video. I also figured it has been a while since I took a turn in front of the camera, so apologies for that too. 😅
    Hopefully the sound of plastic bags being opened near a mic won't be too annoying.
    I'm on winter break now, so will be wasting no time in getting this one put together. Expect more YZ-870c content soon. Wow, it is so nice that companies are give us the opportunity to own "toys" we could only dream about back when we were kids...👍

    For someone who doesn’t do these you did a great job. For those of us on the fence about ordering/getting one, it’s information like yours that help.

      Thank you! I'm glad it was helpful. I'll be making my usual build impressions video with a lot more info once I've gone through the build process.
      So far I'm really impressed. 👍 But a tougher question to answer will be: is it worth it? The cost of the kit is quite high in Japan, and very expensive elsewhere...

    It was great seeing you in the video and you did a fantastic job unboxing and going through everything. I think seeing this made me even more excited to get mine... if it ever arrives to the USA. Still haven't received my Optima Mid 87 yet... In the meantime, I'm looking forward to more DogFighter vids on your channel. Perhaps a build video?

      Thank you! 😊 I don't often appear on camera (still not that comfortable being on the other side of the lens😊), but I appreciate people (my self included!) like to see a face to go with the voice. 😁
      There will be more videos on the 870c! I'll do a build review video once it's done and share my experience, tips, issues and anything else that cropped up during the build. And then of course, I'll take it out and run it! 👍

      Thanks 😁 Unboxing videos aren't really my thing, but I know a lot of people like to get an idea of what is/isn't included in the box.
      Sadly, the trend nowadays is more about efficiency and packing as much as possible into the smallest box. No more blister packs and neatly laid out parts. 😔 I don't collect NIB, but I still appreciate the experience of opening a box and seeing all those parts neatly presented...right before I tear into them. 😁

      @@KaiCityRC I agree with you David. There is something special about a nicely presented kit. This one is pretty pricey so seeing it presented nicely would have been something but it is all in the building and driving of course 😁 Enjoy the build 🙌🏻

    Always interesting to listen to your ramble, I learned a few bits for sure! I was really surprised how cool this kit is! I had seen it posted a few places and it didn't really appeal to me. But seeing you take it out of the box, my imagination started to work, it could look really awesome with a proper paint job! I'm still not interested in it myself, but I'll definitely be looking out for your next video(s) with it!

    Thanks David, good to see another Yokomo being featured! This kit will hit shelves in Germany around Jan-Feb, seems to be on the expensive side with around 490,- EUR. Would be more than double the price of the Dirt Master. But, it's retro, that makes it tempting...

    • @KaiCityRC
      @KaiCityRC  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, it is on the expensive side here too. MSRP is ¥69,300 but most places are selling it around the ¥55,000 mark. That puts it right around Turbo Optima / Egress /Avante in terms of pricing. The Dirt Master is an absolute bargain and very capable on the track. Spares are cheaper too. But it doesn't have the nostalgic appeal of the 870c.

    Thank you very much for the video, I think you’re the first on RUclips! I love the look of this kit, there’s something a bit different about it but I can’t put my finger on why that is! I think it’s very ‘Japanese’ if that makes sense! Like you these weren’t something I was particularly aware of as a kid although I did know of them from the magazines. Still, I’m interested enough now to have had one on pre-order for a few months and I can’t wait for it to arrive here in the U.K.

    It seems like it's a fun RC but it still reminds me of a prototype with the different colored plastic parts. Why not just make the chassi all black? And pink wheels? Is it some sort of dedicated color scheme from the 80's? Congrats anyway, you seem to like it. Nostalgia does have a strong influence on the mind ;)

    • @KaiCityRC
      @KaiCityRC  9 месяцев назад

      😁 I wasn't too keen on the pink wheels at first, but they've grown on me! The 870c is clearly a product of its time - 80's color palette of bright contrasting neon colors. It certainly catches the eye. 😊

    • @uncletom1971
      @uncletom1971 9 месяцев назад

      @@KaiCityRC It sure does. But in a race it's a good thing as you need to be able to spot your car. I may be more towards the scale and realism, though I do appretiate performance and competition too.

    I passed on getting one of these but now I am second guessing that decision! They sure packed a lot of stuff into a rather small box! I guess we are spoiled by the bigger boxes from Tamiya kits! Thanks for going through the kit and the little bit of history and info about it. I am not very familiar with the Yokomo kits at all. I am looking forward to the build and what your thoughts are on it!

    • @KaiCityRC
      @KaiCityRC  9 месяцев назад +1

      Likewise, I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to older Yokomo kits, so this has been quite a learning experience for me. But as a vintage fan, I couldn't resist the urge! 😅 The chance to build and run a re-issue of the World Championship winning Super DogFighter! Yay!
      I'm part way through the build and so far very positive. If you enjoy building vintage buggies, definitely consider picking one of these up! 👍

      I don't ever recall seeing a Yokomo back in the day. I raced a Terra Scorcher at my local track, but wasn't very competitive against Kyosho Optimas and Schumacher Cats. My first Yokomo was technically a RTR crawler I bought many years ago. Most recently I picked up a YZ2 Cal3.1 and have been very impressed with the quality, performance, parts support etc. 👍

    • @KaiCityRC
      @KaiCityRC  9 месяцев назад

      MSRP over here is ¥69,300. But most online retailers are asking around ¥55,000 for them. That works out to be somewhere around £320, before shipping. The first lot sold out here almost immediately. They've started taking reservations for the second lot, but that isn't due until April! I believe the rest of the world will be getting their first shipments towards the end of January/early Feb.

    The "for-whatever-reason" is clearly that its a japanese release in Japan. Usually japanese companies have their domestic market in focus.

    • @KaiCityRC
      @KaiCityRC  9 месяцев назад

      I wish that were always true! In so many instances Japanese companies prioritize overseas markets over their domestic ones. Tamiya especially will release kits sometimes months earlier in other countries. Kyosho is a mix, sometimes we get it early (the recent FZ02-R for example), but other times much later! 😔
      That's not to mention Tamiya kits here do not come with an ESC! And that's especially annoying when you find out that Tamiya race regulations require you to use their motors, batteries and ESC's! 😅
