Robert Downey Dr. playing the role as Tony Stark is not only iconic, but it's also poetically fitting regarding Tony's struggle of alcoholism that reflected with RDJ's history of drug addiction, which both of them just dropped their habits and become successful later in life. Not only RDJ is born to play that role, but his character development made him destined for greatness.

That last part "what's hard is to decide" hits incredibly different when you realize RDJ made a commitment to himself (and also his significant other) to be better (become sober, be around more, not do drugs, etc.) and once that decision was made, he altered his life completely and opportunities came to him
It's a life lesson we all need to know that the hard part is just deciding. Once you've made a decision to do xyz, stick to it and reap what you've sewn.

One of the best videos about RDJ that I've seen, with some great clips & quotes.
What I'm still waiting & hoping for is someone to set aside all of the "Hollywood" of it and see him, from his childhood, as a person just struggling to deal with the situations he's been put in, just see him as another human being and not a character in another Hollywood story.
He's often portrayed as just another self indulgent rich Hollywood brat. In reality, he didn't grow up rich. He had a father who was obsessed with his work. RDJ has said that his dad only paid attention to him if they were filming or if his dad was doing drugs with him. In the "SR" doc, RDS says that the first time he cared about anyone but himself was when his 2nd wife became ill.
His dad set him on the path to destruction as a child with the wild lifestyle and the drugs.
Downey's first arrests came within weeks of his wife & son leaving him. His last arrest came on a Thanksgiving holiday after she refused to let him spend the holiday with them. He was trying to numb his pain with the drug use.
When you look beyond the sensational "Hollywood" story, you find someone very relatable and inspirational. I know that many people have, but many more would understand if they knew the heart of the man.

Playing Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer was the capstone of the comeback. It was such a powerhouse performance, and he really deserved that Oscar, that wasn't just Hollywood jerking itself off. He showed he had it in comedy, action, drama, everything. If it had been anyone other than Cillian Murphy in the central role RDJ could have stolen the film from him.
If he hypothetically never does another film, it doesn't matter. He's done it.

Its not hard to overcome, its hard to decide to leave your comfort and your attachment to your addictions and your problems, your misery and believe you'll never change. There is a bizarre comfort to believing nothing can change. Deciding that actually you can and have to change is the most difficult decision to come to as even though you are doing it for your own sake, you stand to lose part of yourself in the process even if its the bad parts

The difficulty of deciding can't be understated - you have to give yourself permission to live a happy life, to overcome self destructive habits and say to yourself maybe I am more than this. Hurdles that can feel like mountains to overcome, because who are we in the span of the universe? why do we matter? from that the hardest part is feeling deep in your core that I do matter and that I have a place in this world, I have the space to become whoever I want to be because in the span of the universe, anything is possible, you just have to take that first step and believe it yourself. You can do the hard things, you have done the hard things, and you will continue to have the strength to overcome mountains.

This is much more than a documentary or video essay for me. It is a reflection on life. That whatever mistakes we make. We, and only we as individuals have the chic to change at whatever point. And hopefully we can do that while we have a chance. Struggling with depression and constant failure to make anything out of myself. This gives me hope that I still have a future. Thank you Dodford.

Unbelievable that I only learned this now, and I don't need to look it up to learn anymore. This well... Brilliantly made video, is so well made that it portrays exactly what it is meant to show! So well made you place us right along there with the character, better yet the person... Congratulations

Man! I saw your Keanu video and immediately fell into your trap of amazing culmination of interview clips and what not in such a marvelous way that inspires you so deeply. DAAAMMNNN! I was so invested already in the video. Of course its about RDJ, of course its a video made by you, then the redemption part comes in and I am enjoying it like watching a climax of a cinematic masterpiece. you really have shown you are a lot more... I'm running out of words to describe your work. Keep going man. that's all I have to say. This is the first time I've maxed the use of my vocabulary and it's still not enough to describe your work. But you get the feeling of how I feel watching your videos? Man I wish you knew!
