    Dual purpose amenities are incredible: 🛏 bed that lifts both directions 🧭 cutting board that works as a counter extender and a sink cover💧downward hinged cabinet doors that can be used as extra shelving when opened 🚪 I’m sure I missed others, but very impressed with the craftsmanship and thoughtfulness in this Promaster build ⭐️

    It seems that a lot of people promote the value of nomadic/van life as a life that is cheaper. Based on my experience, I want to offer a different view. As someone that has slept more than one thousand nights in my van, I can say that it is not cheaper than the simple life I had before when I owned land and a small home. You should know that you trade one set of stresses when living a traditional life for new stressors as a van lifer/nomad. Many of these are rooted in basic living and will be very stressful for some people. I believe the real value of van life is that it forces you to live in about 50 or 60 sq. ft. By living small, you live a simple life because you are forced to do so. Maybe apply this to your current life and just know there is no need to go by a van and hit the road. Buy a small pre-fab 10x12 shed and finish it with the finest materials for a fraction of the cost of a vehicle. Either find a friend or family member that will allow you to put the shed on their land or go to a rural community and by a small piece of land which is still much cheaper than buying a van and building it out for life on the road. There is no gas to pay and no stress of constantly traveling, seeking for a place to sleep, and so on. The message I want to be clear in my comment is to seek simplicity over following a fad or trend on social media. A small and simple life is a big life that leaves a lot of room for your passions, to help others, and to live your true dreams.

    • @YogaBlissDance
      @YogaBlissDance 4 года назад +3

      Very well said. YOu echoed some things I recently realized, that a very small cabin could be quite peaceful and THE MAIN issue with Van life is lack of rootedness to land, ie. a garden...knowing the land. That is a big negative to think on.

    • @stealthvanlife6867
      @stealthvanlife6867 4 года назад +19

      @@ccbean1980 Hi Chris, I do absolutely get that. My point is that it comes with a price tag. Many people that have no real van life experience think it is "cheaper" and all roses. I am simply trying to suggest based on my experience that it is absolutely not cheaper for me and probably many other people too. There are no right or wrong answers here, just a choice that people make. I was just trying to add some balance and a perspective based on my experience. Hope all is well. Thank you.

      It is built out of 1/2" solid PVC. You can get them in 4' x 8' sheets. It is expensive like $150-$250 per sheet. I used Royal. I think AZEK makes it too. I would say that was one of the most challenging parts of the build. I know people do tile, but i could not get past the thought of the weight and all the vibrations it would have to endure. My wife and i dream of traveling to Western Canada we would love to visit. Good luck Michael!

    Very well designed RV. Good layout, good materials, good sense of style, good functionality. Love the cabinets, esp the gas struts and Blum Rotary hinges! The cabinet finish is very nice. Shower is a real blessing, well done! Wish you had shown us the toilet from top to see how a poop bucket could fit in that floating seat.
    Countertop was a beautiful slab of wood, and should not have been cut up. Sad. Hinging a wood lid on a hot stove is not the smartest idea. It will singe with time. I would have opted for a more industrial functional and lighter countertop, even if you sacrificed style because you chopped up that fantastic slab of wood anyway. The other negative is the cheap fridge. This only runs on AC and is very inefficient and heavy. It is not a good idea to use a residential fridge, it will drain your power. You need Vitrifrigo, or Novakool, or Dometic compression fridge which are highly efficient, use DC or AC, and meant for boats and RVs. Cost $1500 - $2K. Just do it. You will be glad. Add it to the price.
    The bed was very clever. Backrest on either side is sweet. I liked the iron frame, very solid and slim profile. Did you screw that frame directly onto the van? Good size water tanks, great that you used inside plumbing for cold weather. Deck is superb! The overall layout and finish quality is very good, bravo! When I get my van, I'll be contacting you for a bid.
    Adorable baby, looks just like his dad! Lovely wife and family, now you need to roll down to Florida and get some sunlight on the beach during those harsh MS winters, brrrr!

    You just glossed over one of the best parts of the build. the deck. I think every van should have a deck on it. underused space.
    13:44 The shelving on the right side. That corner is going to jab someone eventually. If I were there it already would have : ). Maybe a strip/piece of foam/tape/rubber, or sand it down a little.
    If possible upgraded sockets to include usb ports. Many electronics have detachable cords from the plug in brick.
    I have a long standing belief that most showers become storage, why not incorporate that. Or just ditch the walls and go with a curtain system. There are a lot some real nice ones that people have done. Saves a ton of space and some weight.

    R 20 000.00 when it was damage in the wind. The of froads where also very narrow, so we stayed on the Toll roads most of the times. The van was very convenient for us, it was our home for a month. I can recommend it for a holiday.

    It's nice to see someone actually put in a real heater and bathroom. One of the cleverest beds I've seen is in the "Free Tea Bus" which looks a lot like yours, except it hoists up to the ceiling and has a table and seats under it. My feelings about the "dorm" style refrig are not set. I put a Frigidare single door unit with a huge refrigerator and freezer in my trawler because no one builds a replacement that fits the space the old Norcold did, and it's a far better refrigerator. In my van, the new 3 way actually works and uses 1% of a 7 gallon propane tank a day. An easy way to have a urine diverting toilet is to just pee in a bottle in the fist place.

      Appreciate the comment and you sharing a bit about your van build ideas. We'll have to check out the "Free Tea Bus." Are they on RUclips? I spent a lot of time weighing the options of all the fridges out there. I really wanted a freezer. and it is really hard to find a DC fridge with a freezer that is not super expensive. I calculated how many amps an AC fridge draws and decided that i would just keep the inverter on all the time. Great to hear from you, Happy travels. Erik

    • @ErikLokkenNRVC
      @ErikLokkenNRVC  4 года назад +3

      Etienne Lacoursiere thank you! The wheel base is 159. There is a 30 gallon water tank under the bed and the 13 gallon grey water tank is mounted on the underside of the vehicle so it doesn’t take up precious storage space inside the home. It has an electric ball valve for emptying.

    • @lacoursiereetienne
      @lacoursiereetienne 4 года назад +1

      Erik Lokken doesn’t the grey water freeze during winter? that’s my main concern. Here in québec temperature can go down to -30 degrees celcius pretty often

    • @ErikLokkenNRVC
      @ErikLokkenNRVC  4 года назад +2

      @@lacoursiereetienne Yes, it will freeze. In addition to the electric ball valve, there Is a 1-1/2" Manual valve as a back up. My theory is that in the winter this would remain constantly open. So the water would instantly drain out. I have not fully tested it in winter, but i think if you only use hot water it would be warm enough to make it out without cooling to freeze.
