What you showed is easily one of the best ways to trouble-shoot a plasma TV. I recently repaired a 2013 63" Samsung that simply had lose grounding screws, which determined when everything passed but I still had the TV randomly shutting off. I did have to check the voltages on the power supply to rule out a PSU fault. I also noticed what looked like some cracked solder joints where you'd expect them, i.e. heatsink mounted components such as transistors and diodes. After tightening all the screws, it works like a charm. I know believe my other Samsung plasma had a similar problem and I stupidly replaced unnecessary components as I couldn't figure out how to properly troubleshoot. Live and learn.
Thank you for making the video. I first started by replacing 3 swelled caps, they were bad. Reinstalled the board, still the same thing. I thought I was over looking something. After watching your video, I found that the right board was bad, just like yours. I just bought a new board, solved the problem. I bought my replacement board from "Useful Parts" in Canada. They have 3 day delivery. Thanks Godfrey for your help!
Excellent video and thanks a million good to see you again fixing these sets, I watched lots of videos on this sort of tvs but I just needed to refresh my memory so thanks a million again 😀 👍
GENIUS. thank you. after spending $70 replacing the logic board, the PS board, and another one of the boards, this video helped me figure it out. It was the exact same issue in the video! Crazy!
Great, simple, no frills video. I fixed the exact same model with the exact same problem in 5 minutes after buying a new board. Thank you sir, good day to you!
well i had the same problem with same panel. i could only find two boards on ebay, one for 100 bucks and the other for 20. got the cheap one, installed it myself, and now it works great. im a tv repair noob, so a little more on the removal and install in the video would have been helpful, but i managed. just wanted to thank you for the great video and for saving me several hundred dollars on the cost of a new tv. i appreciate it!
Wow- Great Video! I can't believe I did not think of to unplug the X & Y sus boards to tell if that was what was causing my clicking relay/flashing LED vs. the power supply board itself!!! Super clear & helpful video!!! Thanks So Much!
Amazing!!! I have fallow your trouble shooting sequance and turn out i have identical problem!! Just have to order a new board and wish for the best!! Thank you much, great video!!
I just wanted to say thank you for making this video. I tested the boards like you did and had the same problem. I replaced the x sustain board and everything works great. Thanks again.
Thanks for the great video! This is exactly what happened with a TV I'm fixing. And it's the same board too. Of course, it's the more expensive of the three possibilities.
When troubleshooting this particular unit USE CAUTION! DO not plug in live connection or even after turning the unit off. Wait at least 20 minutes or if you have a discharge bleeder device please use it to discharge the high voltage caps on the power supply. These units are delicate beasts and you can damage the Y-main and buffers just by simply removing or plugging in the boards after being HOT. 99% of the failure on this panel are the Xmain (smaller board to the right on the video) IF you replace or repair that make sure to test your Ymain and Ybuffers before connecting the new board there are videos here on how to test buffers ect.. When the Xmain fails it can take out the Ymain and buffers with it by shorting them out.
Hi, I have the exact same TV as this video and the exact same symptom playing out. If I unplug the connector on the left side (X sustain board I believe you called it) she fires up and gives the tweedle dee init music. So, according to your diags, my Y sustain board (on the right side) is foobarred. What is the part # for that board? Do you sell them?
great video. i have an older model and it clicks even when i disconnect x/y boards. can it be a t-con issue? or plain power supply board? i recon that this issue started progressing from whem it was ok, it started turning off and turning on by itself, and later turning off after some time of use, and wouldnt turn on (click click but no power).
I followed your direction to a tee, and what I think I learned is that the second board tested is bad. Only concern I have is that when I unplugged the left board, the clicking did not take place and the yellow light came on, but it never came on steady. It continued to flash. But again, all of the clicking stopped. Same thing happened when I plugged the left board back into the power supply, and unplugged the right board from the left board. Any thought you would be willing to share sure would be appreciated.
Good morning, I have this same screen, can you tell me how to buy the card on the left side, where are the igbts? you will have the part number, since the screen is perfect only this card is damaged
Great video! I have a Samsung 51" plasma and I have all the voltages on the power supply, but nothing happens when I power up the TV, no clicks nothing. I did what you recommended and unplugged the Y & X boards, and still nothing. I am guessing its the power supply?
I've worked on quite a few of the Samsungs in the series demonstrated in this video. If yours is from around 2010-2012, the power supplies rarely fail. To test these, I remove the X-main and Y-main right away to test the mosfets and diodes on the heat sinks for shorts. Otherwise, if you continue to tinker with the TV, a bad Y-main can kill the good X-main and vice versa. The buffer should be replaced if the Y-main has a short.
Mr. Leggett, I purchased two Lm2596 style voltage regulators from you a while back and I am in Houston and need two more by tomorrow. Do you know somewhere that may stock them so I can try to pick them up? I lost your card, I hope you receive this message. Thanks Mike
I have the same model TV but it does not make chime sound when I followed the procedure you suggested. Maybe I should replace the logic board?. The green light comes on the logic board but does not stay on and no chime sound. Please advise.
Saludos cambio la placa x-sostener?? No se vio... pero mi tv prende normal y luego se apaga sola despues de un tiempo. Y tengo que desconectar y conectar de nuevo para que salga imagen y sonido, y se repite el ciclo Gracias
Hi, I have same model but my issue is sometimes I lose the sound for 5 to 10 seconds and it's coming back right after, the pictures are still really great so I'm asking WICH BOARD is in cause...?? TNX FOR ANSWERING, I WANNA KEEP THIS NICE TV !!!😢
Help! I have the exact TV as this one with the exact problem and symptoms and I troubleshot it just like you did in the video and determined that the Power Supply must be the board with the short in it. Well I bought a new Power Supply on ebay, it came in today, I installed it and I still get the flashing indicator light and the clicking noise, what do I do next, I'm determined to solve this problem and I sure hope you can give me some pointers as to how to accomplish this. Thank You, Dave
I'm doing what the video is telling me to do I unplugged the first one and it blinks I do the other one and it keeps on blinking what seems to be the problem if the light doesn't stay solid
Hello I have same TV, however the red light blink twice in a second; five times and the cycle continues. Can you please advice what the problem could be Thank you
Hi my pn58b540s3fxza keeps turning off on its own. Doesn't try to power itself on like most problems I see online but just turns off after it's been in awhile. Sometimes it turns off right after it is turned on, sometimes it goes a whole 30 mins, if left idle, it was on all night once. I really Don't know what to do at this point. Should I replace the whole power board?? Please help!!!!
i repaired the power supple board on pn58c550g samsung before plugging it back into the tv can i check the out put voltage (DC) by just plugging the 110 power cord. want to make sure this board is working before installing it.
I did what they said and the green light on my tecon board does not come on. Could that be the problem of my Samsung tv? Because it wont turn on and I keeps clicking and when I took the back off the light was not on. Could you please please please help me?
Hi, I have a similar problem. With my plasma pn60f5300, when it turns on only the red light flashes, the voltage VS is of 209 volts but it is lowered immediately to 15v. Can you help me with this
I have the same TV. I have a strange issue. When I powered on the TV, it turn on but stuck at only one channels. Remote control is not working and I am unable to press any button on the TV. In order to power off the TV I have to unplug the TV power cord.
this video is great but i turned on this same model n its dosent click n the green light dosent come on that little board wht can i do throw it away lol or wht ???
Ok just tried this on the same model samsung, as heard a bang, green LED, is the same as if all the boards are good, yet the set doesnt power on, relay only clicks once, and the stand by light flashes, caps look good, must be something else like the panels dead.
Hi there, thanks for the sharing your videowith evryone , I have shut off problem with my Samsung Plasma Television 43″ PS43E490, Sometime it works for days without any problem and sometime it shut off after 20 minutes and Red Light flash 5 times, If i remove the power cable and reconnect the cable again then tv does come on. So it doesn't happen all the time. I really appreciate if you could help me to fix this problem.
Here is the deal with these sets... There is a bulletin for abnormal failure of the X sus board ( board on the right facing the back that you replaced ) due to timing issues from the logic pcb ( you called in t-con) after the X main is replaced it is imperative to update the firmware to correct the timing issues otherwise the X main will likely fail again.. Make note for anyone watching this video..

Nice simple explanation Godfrey - Good video presentation even if you did mix up the Y-Sus and X-Sus.
Thanks for the great video!
This is exactly what happened with a TV I'm fixing. And it's the same board too. Of course, it's the more expensive of the three possibilities.
Thank you,
I saved a boat load of money!!!
thank you so much sir
i'm Algerian and i respect you.
good luck
Great video! Thanks so much for posting this. Your trouble shooting techniques were right on the money.
❤thanks for your help
Thanx alot I had the same problem and it was resolved after i replaced that board

What I said above really applies to all Plasma displays, LCD panels are a little more forgiving but I would use the same methods for those too.
Thank you sir! This helped me out a lot!
great video really the information needed
Thanks man!!!!!!!! Thumbs up! Thanks for sharing
WERE CAN I GET THAT PART.
hi where the replaced board could be ordered pl
Thanks for the info!
I should have used your basic trouble shooting steps to begin with.
Good video. Am not correcting but i think the board on left its the y. And the one on right is the x.
Well

Hi, I have the exact same TV as this video and the exact same symptom playing out. i have a question.. the green light on the tcon did not turn on at all what might be the problem?? and how can it be fix..

What is the part number for the board I am having the same exact problem.
What if the light is the same on both of them? Mine has both of the green lights turning on and off
also where did you purchase the replacement?

Did you have any trouble getting the orange ribbon cable out of the X main board? MIne doesn't want to eject.

I have the same symptoms, change the two plates on the sides but still the same. please help
Will this work when there is a black picture but sporadic dots in various colors on the screen?
Mr. Leggett, I purchased two Lm2596 style voltage regulators from you a while back and I am in Houston and need two more by tomorrow. Do you know somewhere that may stock them so I can try to pick them up? I lost your card, I hope you receive this message.

Does this work permanently?
I have the same model TV but it does not make chime sound when I followed the procedure you suggested. Maybe I should replace the logic board?. The green light comes on the logic board but does not stay on and no chime sound. Please advise.

Wait the green light on the tcon board is still blinking after you disconnect the other boards, so that troubleshooting did not work
I disconnected the y main and x main board yet im still getting the clicking? Would that mean that the power supply is bad?

Frank Scarano when u say "update firmware" how would you go bout doing that?
menu + system+ firmware update
Z sustain
This is not much of a repair. It would be better so see component level diagnosis and a fix.
sir do me same work but same condition
Thanks ok
