Shannon Woodward and Ashley Johnson are both insanely cute. Really excited to see how their relationship progresses, given Ellie's probably struggling to be with someone after the death of Riley.
Hopefully the people who run the production at these E3 shows will learn how to operate audio someday. Every showcase at this (and past years) E3's has had embarrassing audio issues. Constant backstage talking, on stage mic issues.... you'd think a tech conference would have a handle on things like this. Anyways, thanks for all the game coverage despite the ineptitude. :) ..... I mean you can literally hear a toilet flushing at 2:03. smh

In a social media driven world, people seek immediate answers to everything; and if they do not get something that they want to know they become frustrated. I'm so happy with this cast. I became a big fan of ashley after the first game and when they revel that Laura Bailey was in the part 2 i instally freaked out. And now Shannon,that plays "elsie" a character that I really like in westworld. I'm so excited.

Great panel, it's awesome to see the naughty dog crew again but I really want to commend Lucy, I think she did a phenomenal job as the host, asking lots of insightful questions and giving her guests time to answer. Whole thing was awesome!

AHHHHH!!! It’s killing me not knowing what the release date is 😫. I had a feeling they weren’t gonna say what the realease date is. That’s ok though, there’s other games coming out that I’m gonna get to keep me busy.
They might go with Sony's approach to announcing release dates a few months before it comes out. God of War was announced in late Jan, Detroit in March, Spidey in April. Rest assured, when TLOU2 release date is announced, we wont have to wait long.
Expect it to drop Mothers Day 2019. First game was Fathers Day, focused on Joel and Fatherly love. DLC was Valentine's. This one shows Ellie's mom, Mothers Day 2019. That's what I expect at least

the trailer takes place 4 years later from the end of TLOU 1. This means this is somehow prior to the actual game, in terms of timeline. If you remember, the game takes place 5 years later, as per Neil Druckmann... Joel is actually mentioned in the trailer just because this is all before the actual game timeline.

watching this a month away from release is amazing.
Honestly, just from a logical standpoint, it makes senses that Ellie is the main character this game. Joel was already middle-aged in 2010 when the apocalypse started, then 20 years passed, and in the first game he's been attacked, beaten, and stabbed through the gut. Then five more years passed, and now its TLOU2. Like, is he really fit to be a protagonist, fighting, killing, running? It seems from the dialogue in the trailer, that he oversees patrol groups and trains the young recruits instead of actually going on missions himself. I'm sure he could still hold his own in a fight, but the entire game? I don't think so.
From a narrative standpoint, I don't think it makes sense either. His arc was finished in the first game. After Sarah died, he he stopped being able to love, to care about anyone. He parted with his brother, and obviously his friendship with Bill didn't go great. For 20 years he drank, killed Infected and Henchmen, and didn't really connect with anyone but Tess, and even that wasn't the best relationship. He refused to let himself care about Ellie, but over the course of the first game she grows on him, and it finally ends with him choosing her life over possibly the human race. Then, he finally goes with her to Jackson, and his story ends.
Ellie, on the other hand, still has places for her story to go. She never had a problem connecting to people, they just all either left or died (Her mom, Riley, Sam, etc). Joel didn't leave her, of course, and he brought her to Jackson, to a new community, for her to finally start her life now that her old life (Riley, the fireflies, the cure) is done. She's young, she's starting to form her identity, and she has so, so much to lose. That's fertile ground for an amazing new story that I can't wait to play.

Another thing to address is everyone mad that the Infected don't appear to be the main enemy in this game, instead the focus being on the cult. But the thing is, that was true of the first game as well. Sure most of the enemies you shoot down throughout the game being Runners, Stalkers, and Clickers, but they were never the primary antagonists, nor were they the scariest. That title belongs to the human beings.
This game is one that is entirely invested in the humanity of its characters, but its message is also that some of the biggest monsters are really just regular people. People who do monstrous things aren't 'inhuman' or 'animals' as we love to call them. They're still people. Whether its pedophile cannibals or religious zealots, they are still just people in the end. We are all capable of violence and horror, but we can choose to be better.
Or worse.
That's what these games were to me, so much more than a zombie third-person-shooter. It was always about people, about the humans, not the zombies. It was about the loss of innocence and humanity, in a literal sense (like Sam losing his mind to the virus and Henry ending his life after he ended his brother's) and in a mindful sense (like David and his crew succumbing to cannibalism, like Ellie stabbing someone to death with a machete after almost being assaulted and killed).
This second game has the terrifying potential to let Ellie's (well-deserved & understandable) rage take over her, it threatens to turn her into the monsters she hates, and since this is not a choice-based game, we are powerless to stop her from whatever choice she makes.
as an anti-sjw...i really had no idea how homophobic ppl were...i mean i would get the outrage if they made joel gay, as that would be totally out of left field and make 0 sense and would definitely be some agenda nonsense...but ellie being lesbian?? seems perfectly reasonable character choice, i'm digging it.

THIS GAME IS LITERALLY THE BEST THING COMING FOR PLAYSTATION 🙏🏻 I have a strong feeling it comes out late 2019 like summer maybe ! But so many cool things I mean JOAL is somewhere out there, the game is so cool but it does look really challenging and hard ! Can’t wait for this

Bit confused by the complete and utter lack of anything to do with the virus and Joel in the main video they showed. Basically the core of the first game (Dynamic Duo and Infection) were MIA. Don't get me wrong it looks amazing but would've preferred less dancing and more Joel/Clickers instead in some of that time.
Yeah indeed they seemed to suggest that, its just bizarre to see a "zombie" game with absolutely no zombies in the marketing so far. The virus was talked about long before the original came out, it was the core of the game and since we never really dug into it or got any closure whatsoever it just seems odd that it's so absent.

I kinda think the whole point of The Last of Us was to show that despite there being a virus and zombies, humans are really the main antagonists when it comes to the apocalypse. That's what I like about the game. It shows who the true monsters can and will be if there ever was a zombie apocalypse, much like the hunters and David. Because of this, I think it makes sense that The Last of Us promos show more human antagonists than clickers or zombies.
They just wanted to show the Gameplay Changes and the Upgraded AI

I'm so happy that they answered all my questions (will the tech/gameplay in the demo really be in the full game?) and worries (will the story with cult and all not spin out of the grounded, realistic space the first game inhabited with such grace?). Naughty Dog know how their fans feel, what we care about and how to give us more than we'd ever believe we could ask for.
