There may be a bunch of people who haven't Played the game claiming the story sucks and it saved them $60; but there are plenty of people who have played the game and called the story amazing and thought provoking.
I feel like people just need to actually experience the game personally and not jump the gun with their opinions.
Metal Gear Solid 2's story also sounds like a fuck you to the first game out of context; but if you actually play it and understand what the game is trying to say it's a masterpiece.

@Oddwolf 799 The revenge cycle works when the two characters are likeable. Ellie went full edgy girl and Abby is an asshole capable of murdering anyone she wants (including a pregnant woman), cicle of revenge doesnt work with these two.

Yup! I dodged every spoiler and loved the game.
I did, i loved the gameplay the first half of the story except papa Joel, but i hate abbys whole segment and I felt nothing for her even after they tried to make Ellie bad and abby seem good she deserves to die worse then Joel did. Playing abby as half the game is so disrespectful to Ellie and she deserves justice. Even with that said id still buy the game and play threw it. F*** abby if she’s in tlou3 and if Ellie dies and abby doesn’t die rip franchise and naughty dog
I didn't get spoiled and lost my breath when Joel died. I kept thinking something was going to happen to stop it. I hated Abby like everyone else and was resistant to playing her and feeling a connection with her. I do not get the hate on this game; I thought it was brilliant. Ellie and Abby are so alike, and when I was fighting Ellie as Abby and Abby as Ellie, I thought the same thing: Please don't make me kill myself. I'd bonded enough with both that I literally didn't know who to root for anymore and killing either felt like killing a part of me.
I do wish Ellie could have finished what she started with Joel and go with Abby to the Fireflies to hopefully find another gifted doctor who could make a vaccine and sacrifice herself for the greater good or whatever meaning she felt she could get from that. It would have been the happiest possible ending for her.
i feel bad for people who got spoiled, i stayed away from all spoilers, so the game was a roller coaster of emotions, i really like the game, at first i did not like Abby as she killed joel but she grew on me at the end and i did not want to kill her at the end, i was pressing O to try stop lol, i felt bad, but i'm glad how it ended, i would of liked a more happy ending for ellie but it was good.

I just don’t understand how u could like someone who tortures a man not matter if it was joel or someone else, kills your friend, shot your other friend in the eye, bites 2 of Ellies fingers off, has a knife toward a pregnant womans neck finds out she’s pregnant and says “good” and doesn’t feel bad for killing anyone she actually likes doing. Yet Ellie actually feels pain and guilt after killing people. She is no where close to Ellie in personality maybe in revenge but abby is pure evil even if she save 2 kids. Only reson Dina and Ellie live is because of Lev. No Lev, Dina and Ellie are dead. Stop trying to say she’s good because she plays with a dog and saves a kid because her personality was fucking dark. A person who gets pleasure in killing a pregnant woman is totally fucked up. All she loses is a few friends and live while Ellie is left with nothing they totally shit all over Ellie. The game was suppose to be about Ellie that’s why I avoided spoilers and bought the game For Ellie! what a mistake. Regardless i’d still buy the game and play it again.
I can't wait for the Witcher 4 where a ghoul who's dad Gerealt kills rips him and Yennifer apart and then a wacky cross country journey to eat Ciri.

Imagine if one of the random stormtroopers that died on the Death Star has a daughter that finds Luke years later and smashes his head in with a golf club. Then the rest of the movie is about her trying to track down Leia to kill her and her friends. That’s basically the plot of tlou 2.

In the final scene of Joel and Ellie together, Joel said that if the good lord gave him a chance to change what he did at the salt lake hospital, he wouldn’t of changed a thing, it was probably the best scene of the game right next to the camping trip flashback

The release game’s story was so much worse than I imagined. I expected gratuity, but it goes too far and reaches into the realms of perversion and sadism. And then you don’t even get a payoff at the ending, making the 20 hours and the story of the original basically pointless as Ellie’s life leads to nothing.

@@trentimus5700 You will play as Abby after she kills Joel and attempts to kill Ellie (who is now the villian) just because you are Abby which by default makes Ellie the villian. How much more stupid can the story get? Well it does. Ellie almost gets killed but her GF saves her she is also almost killed before Ellie says she is pregnant, to which out beloved protagonist says "Good" and goes for the kill anyway but is stopped by a kid. Not sure that is where it ends but that is most likely furthest point in the story. Joel killed tons of people but some random NPC doctors child is out for killing him and succeeds. This is bad writing. If anything they could have copy pasted Lee Everett's death from TWD Season 1 and it would still make more sense in context of the TLOU Joe prevented a cure for the disease by killing fireflies and he dies because of the very disease he could have cured. Still makes more sense.

That the first movie will have one of the most annoying characters ever Jar Jar Binks. That Darth Vader last words in the trilogy would be yelling out no in an old cartoon way. I still wonder if Neil Druckmann and Naughty Dog realises that the leaker (which I believe was a worker whom thought the storyline was stupid) actually save them from a worse backlash than they are getting now. There would be more returns, more destroyed copies, lower metacritic score and media outcry.

Its ending didn't leave much of an opening for a sequel. It should have ended on a high note like Dead Space should have ended at the end of Dead Space 2

I think you need to look up what constitutes as fan-fiction. Fan-fiction is when an author breaks established rules within the world they're writing in in order to appease a fanbase....nothing about these leaks fit that description.
These leaks suggest a cold and merciless story about the consequences of hate as well as the consequences of previous decisions. The characters that we know die in TLoU 2 get a similar gruesome death as every other character we've seen die thus far.
-- Sarah gets killed by a soldier working for a government that was suppose to protect her.
-- Tess gets bitten and then gunned down.
-- Sam gets bitten, turns and forces Henry to kill him.
-- Henry kills himself over the guilt of killing his own brother.
-- David gets butchered by a 14 year old.
-- Marlene gets gunned down execution style for trying to save the human race.
In what way do the leaks suggest a deviation from the cruel rules of the world established by the first game??
SPOILERS AHEAD:
-- Joel gets his head bashed in with a golf club by the child of someone he killed years prior.
Nothing about this screams "fan-fiction". It follows the same rules as in TLoU 1. It can EASILY fit with the deaths I listed above.

In other words, fanfic is more for the benefit of the author than the reader - the readers like it too? Then it's a win-win.
If these leaks were just a fanfic then all would be good - because a fanfic is just a fun way to explore more of the world and characters you like and in different ways. You don't like it, you don't read it and most importantly, it's not canon. This is where the leaks get disturbing, because they portray an illogical, downright insulting developement of the story and characters that you wouldn't really expect from the original material - but rather from someone's fanfic. It's season 8 of GOT all over again - good old case of bad writing.

Imagine if when the original game was about to release the ending was leaked weeks prior and all we were given were a few images and a leaker describing the ending as "Joel kills everyone in the Firefly base and chooses to protect the girl over finding a cure for humanity". If that shit had leaked gamers would have responded something like, "So we play the entire game trying to find a cure and in the end Joel chooses to save one life over millions!? No, that's dumb, I'm cancelling my pre-order". They would have made a snap judgement over an incomplete narrative that they were told about by someone else, but if they'd waited and played the game they'd have realized the situation wasn't so black and white.
It would have been ILLOGICAL to judge the game based on little tidbits while ignoring the fact that there's an entire game worth of context that they'd be ignoring simply because they didn't like the way the ending sounded on paper.

This is interesting to listen to now that the game has been out, I've beaten it and also since I didn't hear the leaks before hand. I had heard how mad everyone was but my whole playthrough I didn't understand why until I finished the game. I suspected Joel's death but I never expected them to split half the game up with a different character. I almost didn't even finish the game because I was so tired of it by the end. It sucks too because I don't think I could ever replay it like I do with many other games including the first one.

There are not a lot of areas where aggressive backseat driving is appreciated or terribly helpful.

Abby found Ellie, and spared her along with Dina, and Tommy. Abby also spared Ellie and Tommy in the beginning of the game. Ellie then at the end still wanted to kill Abby. I just don't understand the hate for Abby. She was actually a good person, and was a lot more forgiving and less revengeful than Ellie.

So we spend the first couple of hours of the game playing as ellie, until where Abby (the daughter) kills joel in front of ellie. Then the POV switches and we get a flashback and we're forced to play as abby, witness her father's death, and we play as her until the scene where Joel is killed, except this time, we witness it from Abby's perspective. However, Ellie is somehow spared (or escapes), and for unconfirmed reasons, we keep playing as Abby, who's now on a mission to also kill ellie. We continue to play as Abby where we have a final encounter with Ellie, and we're forced to proceed to beat her, and her pregnant girlfriend to near death. Now this is where it gets tricky, as there are three things that can happen. Either Ellie dies and it is implied that Ellie's friends will now hunt Abby, meaning the cycle of revenge continues. Option 2: Ellie survives and teases TLOU3 where she'll be the antagonist. Or Option 3: Ellie survives and the game continues, your perspective is switched back to Ellie and you spend the rest of the game hunting down Abby

You play as Abby for half the game.” Even if unconfirmed, it sounds likely given all the confirmed leaks.
