Clicker training multiple cats

  • How I trained my cats to sit and high five in allocated spaces where kitties are allowed. It's a bit tricky with a multi-cat house but doable. Cats mimic each other and also learn through observational behavior.
Kitchen counter? What kitchen counter? The Chirpies have new-found interests!

Is there a way to teach the other cats to wait, so they let the other cats get their time? I’m new in the click training and I have three gorls!! 😻😻😻

Thank you for this video. As others have said, it gave me hope that I could clicker train my two kitten brothers at the same time in the same room. We did our very first session last night and it went very well!

2 things that are still unclear regarding multiple cat training. How do you 'charge' the clicker with multiple cats without them interfering or stealig the treats from the slower eater, and once that's done (if even possible with them in the same room), doesnt the clicking while the current cat is being conditioned confuse and or trigger the patiently waiting cat due to the same sound? I see it clearly works for you, but seems more went on of camera to get them to this point, and thats the part Im having trouble with!
I have two 10 week olds, and I've begun their basic training and even just charging the clicker is becoming a pain as the male constantly steals his sisters food, or pounces on her to play when I have her attention. I cant even seperate them to get them charged individually as they are bonded so tight (each others shadows), that when not in the same room they constantly seek each other out to the point they dont care if I have treats/food.
Inquiring kitten trainers want to know!

Oh, i was wondering if click training could work if i have two cats in the same room... But you seem to do it quite well :o

This is exactly the reason why I’m watching this video. How it went in your case?

It is tricky, and at first I thought they would be confused but I’ve noticed that the cats learn from each other. So when one cat learns that the clicker sounds means treats, the others soon pick up on it :)

Hi there! Have you tried clicker training yet? It really is fun to see the cats responding and interacting! You should give it a go :)

This is very helpful! 😁 Thanks for posting.
Just a quick question: How did you train them to get used to the clicker in the beginning with multiple cats? Did you train them individually?
We have 2 kittens that are a bit over a year old. So far I have trained both of them to high-five and shake, without using a clicker. But now I have just ordered a clicker and I am wondering what is the best way to get them used to the clicker. They seem to enjoy being trained together (they get anxious when I put them in separate rooms), so I really want to keep training them together even after getting the clicker. Your video gives me a lot of hope and I am excited to get started! 😸

Joel how did you train your babies without the clicker? Also why have you decided to switch to the clicker now if you successfully trained them without it?

@@isis1999able Sorry I totally forgot to reply to this. I switched to using a clicker because I somehow thought it would improve their learning progress. However, after about using the clicker for over a year and then going back to omitting the clicker, I can honestly say that it did nothing for my cats. 😂
But some kind of audio cue is still good I think. I always respond with "Good boy" before rewarding them for the trick, so I think for my cats that works just as well as (if not better than) the sound that comes from the clicker.
Maybe a clicker works better for single cats? Or maybe it's different from cat to cat. It just didn't do anything for mine. It's been almost a year since I've stopped using a clicker now and they've learned a whole bunch of new tricks at roughly the same speed (jump through hoop & lie down).
      Are you using a clicker?

I have the same question! I have 2 cats in a small apartment. They have a cat highway and cat go outside, but you can hear the clicker from the other room. How do you get them both to have a positive association with the clicker if only one cat does the behaviour, and the other doesn't?

    • @joelchelliah9529

@@Clairski3 I've heard that some people use 2 different clickers. Even if they sound the same to us, the cats can apparently hear the difference in the frequency. I have no experience with this myself, just something I have heard.
For me, as I mentioned earlier, the clicker did not seem to make any more of a difference than just saying "Good boy " before rewarding them with a treat. I have been training my cats for almost 2 years now, and just using vocal feedback has been working out great for us :D
