  • In this short clicker training tutorial, you will learn how to train your cat to stay on a chair. Use a finger target to guide your cat where you want them to go. Reinforce your cat for staying on the object and teach them a release cue.

    I found you on Instagram and want to tell you how much I appreciate your posts and videos! I have a very shy little kitty who was afraid of her own shadow. Clicker training is really helping her blossom and bond with us and she is now demanding training time. So far, she’s got come, sit, follow the finger and she started sitting pretty tonight. She also knows fist bump but she hates it :) thanks so much for sharing this knowledge!

    Hi Julie, thank you so much for your channel, I've successfully taught my kitten Skippy to sit and to "stand up"!
    I'd like Skippy to learn STAY but I wondered if you recommend teaching this first or doing the mat training first?
    Thank you so much 😘!

      You could teach stay on the mat or on the chair, or both - I say teach both! :)

      Cat School if you have a sec I taught our kitten to sit but idk when to fade out the treat and do I fade the click?

    • @CatSchool
      @CatSchool  6 лет назад +4

      You don't need to keep using the clicker once the cat knows the behaviour. If you cue your cat to sit, you should reward with a treat - that's their paycheque. You don't have to reward every time but you should keep the reinforcement high. You might choose to only reward the best sits, for example, the ones where you cat gives you eye contact.

    I'm curious what the food reward is that you're using with Jones. I'm on the search for better food rewards to try with my cats and what you have looks nicely chewable and tiny.

    But is this just 'stay' as in a cute trick from one spot, or can you teach her for example to stay inside instead of walking out the front door when it's open?

    I have two kittens, is it better to train them individually or together?

    • @CatSchool
      @CatSchool  4 года назад +5

      Much like this, you can teach each cat to stay on a chair beside one another. One cat gets a turn while the other cat gets rewards for staying on their chair. Take turns so each kitten gets a chance at training and learning how to wait patiently at a 'parking spot.'

    Hi, I see your cat gently grabbing treats from your hand, how do you manage that?
    I mean my cat is very easy to train but whenever I want to reward him I end up with bleeding finger tips, nails and etc. instead of just grabbing the treat he will just launch at my hand and try to fit everything in his mouth.. PLEASE HELP 😥

      For starters you might wanna trim the cats nails lol. But what i did was basically pull my hand away if he tries to jump for the candy. Then everytime i'm supposed to feed him something (i.e candies or food) i just refrain from doing so if he insists on jumping for it. Of course an important keypoint is to only have 1 candy or 1 food pellet in your hand and teaching him/her slowly that way. Hope it helps!

      I just remembered another video where she talks about throwing the treats away instead of having the cat coming to your hands so that's an alternative if you wanna do that instead

    So if I'm teaching to stay, I say stay, give the treat, and then I'm leaving the house, how do I release the cat without having her come to the door? Do I just leave with the car on the bench?

    How do I teach cats to stay while they see me preparing food? I take care of two six months old males and they are nightmare when feeding. They jump with their claws on my legs trying to climb up as I take the bowls from the counter. I have open plan flat so there's no way to close them off while preparing. I've managed to teach them stay when giving them treats but once they smell the meat off the pouch nothing can stop them. Please help

      Have you seen IamCasper videos? I'm just learning too, and watched one of Kurt's training videos where he is using a spoon with just a lick of, what I think is, the cat's regular wet food as a treat. He says that he prefers using the spoon. Anyway, saw your question and thought, if you feed your cat wet food, this might be worth a try. The video I watch is titled: Clicker training for cats - How to tutorial to start - Beginner level. The channel is: IamCasper. Good luck!
