Jackson, I followed your advice for how to get your cat to let you sleep through the night. I thought my cat was the exception-that nothing would work. But guess what, within 4 days of consistency on my part, my cat fully stopped meowing through the night. We no longer get woken up by her. Thank you so much for your videos!

@@2020Dumpsterfire -- Maybe get yourself another chair, or have an easy platform so your senior kitty can be beside you. She likes being with you, likes your scent on the chair, and it's warm and cozy, all good things from a cat's point of view. You can either alternate between two chairs or have a nice nearby spot for her to hang out with you. (Heck, it works for a young cat too.) -- I sympathize. My senior cat wants (and needs) extra attention. -- Lately, he's started getting between me and the keyboard and screen, and he lies down and wants attention. She also finds her ways to crawl onto my lap tho she prefers even closer like on my chest. I have gotten really lucky that my cat takes cues from my routine instead of time or her own desires. She knows she gets breakfast AFTER I am ready for the day regardless of me getting up at 6am or 10am. She has never once tried to wake me up because me waking up doesn’t mean food. She also knows that when I get home from work she gets a hello snuggle and then I go change clothes. Only after I am out of my work clothes does she get food so she won’t ask for it until I am done. If she’s not getting and afternoon snack today then we skip the behavioral cue. That means we can do routines whenever we want because her cue comes from our behavior. It’s much easier than trying to stick to a cat routine. Just incorporate your cat’s needs into your routine.

No amount of ignoring him works, so I'm just genuinely at my wit's end. (The puzzle toy IS nice, but doesn't stop him from yelling for what he wants - which is usually to go outside - and he DOES get to go outside, but he can't be out there ALL the time. Now the kitten is learning from him, to start crying and scratching the door to go out.) I would not put it past them to find a trumpet and learn to play it, anything to make me rise and feed quicker than I already am. Oh and if I get up to pee, say around 2:30am or 3:00, they have no trouble following me and doing serious rubbing, all in the hope that human peeing in cat language means FEED ME NOW😹😹. I've met several people who told me they just left their cat ( it's a cat ! they can survive like this! )alone with enough food/water, and how their cat behavior might have changed afterwards. My biggest fear is definitely how my cat will handle me going to back to work! She is a covid kitten so she's never known a time that I wasn't with her practically 24/7. Also my bedroom is very small (the other areas of the house have rabbits and birds so she has to stay in my room unless I lock the others up and let her out) so I often feel guilty about that. :(
What are some other good ways to help her stay active while I'm gone?

My cat will bite me, sometimes to the point of drawing blood, if I don't give him treats on demand. He's supposed to be on a diet as he is slightly overweight. He is loving most of the time, but will also do this if he considers I'm on the phone too long and I've never been able to watch an entire film since I got him because he gets annoyed that I'm not paying him attention, so it usually takes at least 3 goes to watch a film. He has been checked multiple times for any health issues and is checked over, deflead and wormed every 3 months. I play with him, he can see out of the windows which have bird feeders in front of them and he has access to the garden whenever he wants.

Ugh - guilty as charged! My 10 week old kitten, Mikey, is obsessed with playing in, and climbing my curtains! Every time he is in (or ON) them I pick him and and walk around with him for a few minutes. Most of the time this calms him down from what I like to call "monster mode" where he is doing everything he can to burn off every last shred of energy that he has in his tiny little body. So this a HUUUUGE THANK YOU from me to you for showing me the error of my ways. Now I either distract him with something else, or I simply relocate him to a more appropriate part of the house. :)

Yeah, they know when they have a fiddle in the house! My mom couldn't understand why our cats started becoming "annoying". Then we realised it started when she retired... i don't give in easily when they want something (which, funnily enough, annoys my mom) and she does... Of course they'd be more annoying now that she's home all the time! It took me some time to make her understand that the male only annoyed her in the middle of the night when he wanted something was because she got up and I pretended not to when he tried, and he gave up on me! (or I didn't hear him, I have a rather deep sleep) "Weirdly" enough, when she finally stopped getting up for him, he stopped!

I don't know if you've ever done a video about cats that don't eat unless their human is present. I don't think there are that many of cats like this but I've heard about it before. My cat is one of them unfortunately. She needs someone to watch her eating. Plus her pancreas is chronically bad and she doesn't feel hunger like healthy cats do. When she's home alone she just doesn't eat, and once I'm finally back home she hasn't been eating long enough for it to make her sick. I'm going back to work next week, and I'm so anxious about how she'll manage this that I can't even sleep at night :-/ Guess we're both gonna have separation anxiety.

My flatmate has two adorable cats called "Einstein" and "Sodom" and the latter one did this while walking around or going to a different floor in the flat. What seemed to help us was due to him not really loving being picked up, just starting picking him up every time he did this and after a while he stopped, because he seemed to associate this kind of meowing with being picked up which he did not want. In the end he just seemed to find it a little annoying, and just wanted to go down again, so that seemed like good way to get him to stop.
He shortly after developed a better way of communicating with us and usually just meowed similarily just once to annoumce himself before looking for us to get a short cuddle session and then chilling somewhere for the next hours. And he learned our sleep schedules so he usually did that before we went to sleep with someone who was still awake, without waking up anyone, got his good night snuggles and let us sleep the whole night.
And whats interesting is that when beforehand he tried during his more annoying phase to get us to open out dors by just meowing for several minutes, he just tries it like one or two times and either comes in for a short cuddle when we let him, or otherwise just goes and does something else.
