- We invite you into the Chirpy Cats' lair. Where the cats sip from the watering hole after a long lazy day of snoozing and bug hunting. For DIY catio inspiration to get you into the mood to build your own cat kingdom! Cat safe plants, vines, and lots of catnip at the catnip tunnel. A cat bridge to watch birds and high-rise condos for our tree dweller cats! Building a catio was the best thing we did for our cats!

The way to your cat's heart is through his world. It was very important for us to give our cats the best of both worlds. By merging the safety of indoor living with a safe outdoor catio space, we created the perfect catio kingdom for our cats to explore.

When building a catio start out simple! You can always add different sections such as the cat tunnels later. The cats will also let you know what is working and what is not! They'll surely have their input. :)

I love your catio! You really don't need to spend lots of money, but one thing that makes cats happy is the contact with nature. Also bathing in the sun and high spots. Congratulations for all the caring for the cats.

This is my favourite Catio build so far that I've come across and I've seen many haha. I love how intertwined with nature it is. The vines and plants all around, plus the water fountain really create a different feeling! This video was already relaxing, I can't imagine how much all the cats enjoy their space!

I like that you made a lot of routes and levels they can travel on, spying locations and you put plants in great places, Cat's like plants and rustic and fresh water and peek-a-boo spots to observe from and hide in. So, really nice job. Also not too many dead ends to bottle neck, cats like escape routes as well! Thanks

We are going to build a catio for our cat. She was feral, & decided to live with us. She’s fine with us, but doesn’t trust anyone else, so she gets very stressed if we go away & put her in a cattery. So we figured she would be happier on her own home ground, where a friend can come & feed her if we go away. If any strangers stay in our house, she won’t come anywhere near, so that’s not an option.

Your catio is absolutely beautiful and obviously so wonderful for your happy cats who are living their best lives. What an inspiration this was for me. I have a balcony I turned into a catio but I look forward to a day when I can really go full out in my own yard with a magical place for my cats like this.

Very lovely catio and inspirational! How do you keep your plants pests free without harming cats?
Hi there! Thank you so much! I mostly plant cat-safe plants that don’t attract many pests. Catnip in hanging baskets repel almost all pests. The Swedish Ivy that cascades out of the pots are totally pest free too. The annuals such as impatiens, ornamental grasses and polka dot plant are also great choices. If I need to get rid of tiny aphids I will spray with a mixture of neem oil and Castille soap.
I also don’t treat for spiders and leave them be! I do think that keeping them part of the ecosystem is super beneficial for the perfect balance in our catio garden! 😸👍🏼
@@chirpycats thank you so much for your reply. It is very kind of you. Much appreciated. I will definitely look into those plants when I build a catio in the future. Maybe it is just my location that has a lot of garden pests. Mainly aphid and spider mites infestation. Even in snow, I can still see some aphids hanging under the leaves!

what kind of fencing wire did you use?
Hi there! I used 16 gauge galvanized fencing wire. I also recommend going with a smaller 1.5”x1.5” grid to keep smaller critters and birds out. Hope that helps! 😀
