DIY CATIO Enclosure for my ORIENTAL Cats

- Hi there,
We were throught a garden transformation and decided to add a Catio project for our three indoor Oriental Cats.
So Malaki, Mambo and Tobias could have a safe outdoor space to be and have a better quality life.
We had no ideia the end result would turn up so beautiful and become a cat paradise for them.
Was my favority thing we make in our garden.

Maybe a Christmas present of some brushes to place on the uprights. I have something like in my house and my Annie loves it. You do need to clean it every so often.

I love the way the plants incorporated into the tunnel & arbor! You need a few pole bird feeders to attract more attractions for the babies' ❤interests! I like how you have included the dog & chickens into the space😊!!! It's way better than a few cat toys here & there, more naturally interactive😂!!! You have Hearts of Gold💛💫!!!

Very nice Catio. Did they get rid of the rats though? seems like they couldn't chase the rats from their catio.
Thanks 🙏 hahahaha no, but they did caught mice time to time and even a giant slug 🫠 we just need to control the hens food instead and the rats was going to the neighbours bird feeder’s instead 🐀

I have a simple enclosure and playpen at the moment but this is the dream, create a full cat playground
It is so worth it! They love so much and with all the plants around they have so much space to hid and looks like a jungle🍃

I have received estimates for a catio but the cost is outrageous for even a small catio.) 😞

Lovely build! Those are lucky cats. This Catio also can be use when having people visiting the house and when you need to open the front door constantly without letting your cants out, your cat can stay in the catio and you can close their entrance to the house temporarily. Really enjoy watching this!
Definitely, we used to locked the flap door when we need to open all the windows and doors and being joiners and people working in our house. They were much better outside than close in a room.

Just a little heads up be careful what plants you put near the catio as some are toxic to cats n dogs ( sweet peas being one of them, also clematis, and also bean plants i just worry the cats will eat them and make them sick😊), great work
Hi Lisa, yes you’re right! I was aware of that, but seems they were never really interesting to eat those. Just Malaki had snap some green beans sometimes. I also had tons of cat mint and cat grass for them inside the cage. Thanks for your message 🌹 and welcome to my channel

So sorry for your loss of Mambo; may your hearts be healed by the Love you share. ❤ Love your catio and garden! I wish I had a space to do that; the best I could do is to put a 5 ft x 4 ft x 2 ft three-level cage up against my sliding glass door. I'm in a condo without any area to grow/garden and only a 2 ft wide space in back and in front a patio that gets scorchingly hot for at least 6 months of the year (in the desert SW of the USA). But my cats forgive me and spend what time they can out in their cage. I put up shade cloth but it's too hot by 10am so they come inside in the air conditioning until the afternoon.

What about if you make something like a pergola and plant a vine that can cool the space? The vine work as a sun shade and helps to cool down things…Do you think could be possible? Also making a pergola can be cat and human area.
I’m studying Permaculture at the moment and my teacher was mentioning this to help to cool the house down during the summer months.

@@onthemountainpaths I innerstand (been there, done that, as a cat parent). Lovely suggestion about the pergola. Unfortunately, no, I can't do that. I have a condo in an HOA, with very strict rules...and no outdoor space to do anything like that. I currently have a sun shade but the position of the sun is such that it shines right through the gap between front patio wall and sunshade (and the entry path). My door gets hot enough to burn by 2pm and only gets worse until around 7pm, when the sun is obscured by the mountain. If I could move, I would.

@steffeneotowicz2111 I saw a couple who rent & couldn't put up a catio. So they just built a screened box for the window! It has brackets to hold it onto the ledge & is wider than the window. They can still open & close it & put a pillow in for laying on. It was built with a bit of an angle for rain runoff. They have a bird feeder close for entertainment & it has partial shade from a tree. But if there were no trees, you could cover half of it❤!!! AND it can be taken when moving! Bonus!!!
