I am currently doing the math for my 1jz vvti and i am having trouble wondering if i ever have to add both my valve lash measurment to my goal measurment. The formula calls for. Measured valve lash - goal valve lash then you add that to the size bucket you have with shim currently to get your shimless bucket measurment. On a side note you helped me understand this way much better compared to other videos i seen!!!! Good shit man
Hi my 150 doesn't have shims, it has adjustable valve clearances and only 2 valves. Your videos though taught me a lot about maintaining motors and valving , thank you !
as valves wear and move farther into the head... wouldn't you need to put a smaller shim not a bigger shim like you said ?? just looking for clarification
But how often do you recommend doing a valve shimming ? I think that's 36000 km on my bike but I think that's way too much , I'm drying hard and barely 18000 km ...
Is this gap you speak of between the top of the valve stem and the cam lobe on the cam shaft or between the valve stem and the cam shaft? IOW is the gap measured with the lobe pointing down or when it is not down?
Very good explanation thank you. I have a ticking noise on my Varadero 1000 at low rpms and i was thinking it was the tensioners but i replace them and is still ticking. Does the valve shims also ticking when need replacement?
Great video. Can you tell me why a motorcycle engine still has a tapping noise after adjusting valve/cam clearance to factory specs (.003). I have a 2009 Suzuki DR200 with only 300 miles on it and the tapping/ticking noise(only heard when the engine gets hot) is really annoying. Thanks!

My CBR1100XX exhaust valve number#7 is sticking because of carbon build up on valve and valve seat (sticking and leak), and at first the gap was 0.27mm (spec at 0.22mm), i tapped the bucket with wooden stick and a hammer a few time, then the gap reduced to 0.23mm. is it okay? I decided to check valve clearance because it misfire on cylinder #4 (CBR 1100XX EFI 1999 KM 40k kM)

Does anyone have the order, or at least the specs for the 1GRFE 4.0 V6, more specifically a 2004 4runner? I lost my footing and a few of the valve tappets fell out and I don’t know where they go, lol. Any help is appreciated!!
@@vegasromaniac so my exhaust valves on my 450 Suzuki tolerance is 0.17 to 0.24 and my filler gauge Gap is 010 so I need to shorten the shim up in order to get to the .017 so I shortened the shims in order to make the Gap bigger?
You are making a YUGE mistake by assuming the number stamped on the shim hasn't changed. I'll guarantee you that a 1.80mm shim with 100 hrs on will mike-out to 1.73-1.74mm.

Maybe dumb question but how do you know whether to add a gap or close the gap?
if you can hear the valve ticking,that`s good,when that tick goes away ,too tight ,not so good ,burn your exhaust valve

I bought a bike from a guy and with the head off and he never had shims in it ? So do I start with big increments or small shims to find right shims?

Because sometimes they don't wear out and sometimes they wear out a lot really fast

My bike seems to run fine i have the same bike, but an 05. But i should probably pull it apart and check my valves and timing chain.

Hey Vegas do you set the shims for your valves on the short side of spec, at the long or in the middle of manual spec?
Because emy shims come in 05 increments, I can't be picky but it's better to be on the tight side if possible, I just go make sure they are in spec

@@450motodog8 yes you need a smaller shim.. Your calves are out of spec badly..
