    This video is one of the best ive seen. I followed the procedures to the T, used the supplied excel calculator, replaced the shims and now she's running like new again. Thanks Chris!!!

    Fantastic guide. I'll be doing the valve check on my Thruxton for the first time myself and this video has given me the confidence that I can do the adjustments if necessary.

    Man great tutorial but there is one thing you've made wrong!! ATTENTION. When you replace the washers of the valve cover, you put them upside down. THE COPPER PART HAS TO BE FACING UP!! This make sense taking into account that above it there is a screw.

    Great video,I dread shim valve adjustments. My question,and it might be incredibly stupid, why is this called a SOHC,there are two cams,right? What am i missing?

    • @littlewicky1
      @littlewicky1 Год назад

      It's a DOHC, since like you said there are 2 cams.

      Ok,I have a 2023 street twin 900,it is a sohc according to the literature. Is that an air cooled bonneville you are working on? Does my bike have rocker arm activation? This is my first non Japanese motorcycle

    • @littlewicky1
      @littlewicky1 Год назад

      @@garydavis2265 it looks like you are right. The engine in your bike is a SOHC. My understanding of the Street Twin was to be an more inexpensive bike than the Bonneville.

    • @garydavis2265
      @garydavis2265 Год назад +1

      After doing a little research it appears that all 2016 and on bonnevilles are sohc

    There is no gasket to replace on the valve cover? Or is there any?

    • @ChrisIronhardt
      @ChrisIronhardt  2 года назад +2

      You can replace the gasket on the valve cover. I just reused my old one because it was in good shape. I have not had any leak issues since doing this maintenance 18 months ago

  • @SteelJM1

    Crikey, this is why i hate shim and bucket style valve actuation. I may need to adjust the rocker arms on my bike more often (though that hasn't proven true yet) but it takes all of ten minutes and two tools.

    Believe it or not, this is why I will never own another Triumph. Screw type valve adjusters are just so much easier to deal with.

  • @Super2wheeler
    @Super2wheeler 3 года назад

    Why can't you just buy new factory shims? Why do you need to get special ones with different thicknesses? I have 24,000 miles on mine and never checked them yet.

    • @StRYCH9ofFOCR
      @StRYCH9ofFOCR 3 года назад +2

      The factory shims are not one thickness across the board. Manufacturing tolerances make it necessary to use an array of thicknesses for the shims to get the clearances correct. With miles on the engine, you must now factor in wear. The only way to get them right is through the measuring and calculating process. My bike is at 15K miles and it appears that the valve adjustment was never done. I will require four new shims on my adjustment. It really isn't hard to do.

      @@StRYCH9ofFOCR Thanks for the info. My bike is running fine. Maybe I'll do the work this off season.

    Reason i don't buy Triumph...Massive drama of taking cam shafts out / verify timing just to adjust valves. lol no thanks.Give me a screw tappet or hydraulic lifter anyday.
