    This cam delivers on the performance claims, but you will need to get your 900 water cooled twin tuned. Don't run this cam with the x-pipe, mufflers, high flow air filter and de-snorkel unless you also tune the bike on a dyno with a PCV or TuneECU. We did all the mods, and the AFR down low was in the high 10 range, and up top was close to 15. Way out of spec... It ran, but riding it hard with it that lean would do damage to the motor over time. If you install this cam, TUNE THE BIKE. We saw a 28% increase in power, the fueling and motor are now happy, and you can actually run the bike up to redline. It pulls hard right to the rev limiter, rather than having to short shift it at 5000rpm... Which means, you can gear the bike down for even more drive, without sacrificing top end speed. Completely new bike is how it feels, but if you are gonna do this cam, do it right and tune the bike after the install. You will thank me.

      SquireSCA this is the comment I’ve been looking for! I have a 2018 Bonnie T100 and I’m wanting to give it as much HP and torque as possible. It’s stock with only 800 miles on it but I plan on 1:dropping front sprocket down one tooth, 2:de-CATing with X-pipe, 3:changing stock exhaust to free flow predator pros from BC, 4:de-snorkeling the air box and placing in a high flow filter, 5:adding a fuel booster plug, 6:adding in the de-restrict cam shaft and then finally getting a Dino done on the bike... is there ANYTHING else you would recommend to improve performance?? Thanks so much!

  • @pfroo40

    I'm about halfway done with fitting the new cam, just got the alternator cover off. That was tough! A rubber mallet helped me loosen the left and bottom, the top right corner was very difficult, but I found it helpful to use some plastic pry tools (used for interior trim parts, won't damage the gasket surface) to get leverage between the cover and the block to wiggle it loose. Not too much pressure. I also expect the reassembly of the ignition module to be finicky.

    Haynes manuals give me the impression of being short-changed copy/paste jobs from vehicle to vehicle. The little exceptions you found really catch it. They're good for giving another perspective, but when it comes to prescribed stuff (torque, replacement parts, etc), I'll stick to the manufacturer's service manual.
    Don't worry about the sound, it's just fine. I hear worse on videos from guys with so-called professional setups. Thanks for a great explanation!

    The video is a guide only and I would suggest using it along side the workshop manual from Triumph or Haynes.
    parts numbers
    alternator cover gasket - T1268765
    CAM screws T40 head - T3053005
    Cam tensioner O rings - T3600199 + T3601276
    Tightening torques
    Cam sprocket screws 22 NM
    camshaft bearing carriers 10Nm
    Head top cover 14Nm
    Alternator cover bolts 10Nm
    Cam tensioner 16NM
    You can safely run the bike with the stock ECU . I would check you have the latest software update from Triumph installed as the latest dealer update tune is a lot better than the factory gates tune.
    We have done testing with the triumph updated map and the Vance and Hines Triumph map and very little difference.
    For max power you can use a Power commander but we found that is was not really worth the money as the throttle body / air box was at almost max flow already. The only advantage was the timing could be advanced and rev limit raised ( both risky if you are not sure what you are doing) we also found fuel economy not as good with power commander probably due to the O2 sensors being bypassed.
    You can get a wide band O2 sensor add on kit for the PC5 but again this is expensive.
    As with all power commander and similar systems it is only as good as the tuner who has set it up on the bike and can be dangerous in the wrong hands.

      What I have found is there is one specific Triumph tune for almost every market; EU, Thailand, Australia, U.S. etc. even in some cases different spec accessories as in muffler specs, Evap canisters etc. I think while it may be safe to run the cam without a PCV or fueling device your going to have a variety of results. there can't be one updated factory tune for all markets.re- mapping and advancing the timing would be necessary to achieve the full benefits of installing a cam, a pcV would be a good investment, but in addition you need a good dyno tuner and dyno time to be safe and achieve proper results, there is no free lunch, unless you want to leave power on the table. And to be safe, I would at least dyno the bike to make sure I was not lean. altitude, temp and humidity of your riding environment all play a part, unless your only riding in the UK.

    • @georgemilburn6213
      @georgemilburn6213 6 лет назад +2

      DEeMON Hi,If you want to be sure that the bike is not running too lean you can use a booster plug as a back up and this will run about 6% more fuel on open loop. We are going to produce pcv maps for the 900 and 1200 motorcycles, these will be based on the stock USA and EU tunes .In testing with a cam only fitted both types run very well and safe with the stock update tunes, no big gain in the pcv on 900 even with extra mods, but on 1200 you can see more power due to the larger throttle bodies when using a pcv with more ignition advance and raising the rev limiter

    • @DEeMONsworld
      @DEeMONsworld 6 лет назад

      yes, I have a Booster plug presently with a de-cat, my own design custom short pipes de-snorkeled airbox. Also running a 44 tooth rear sprocket, turning 4 second 0-60 times already. how much faster with a cam, I suspect not much, due to the single throttle body nearly maxed out already, smallish valves and porting compared the the 1200cc bikes. You have to realize bikes sold outside the EU and the U.S. are often sold by non Triumph dealers, and there is no available map upgrade., We are stuck with Booster Plug or PCV for any additional fueling, or timing maps. but The PCV requires advanced skills and a dyno to properly tune the bike, as well as re calibrate the throttle position sensor. In any event I have a late model Street Twin, so no cam yet from your offerings.
      It would be nice to know what maps we may or may not have based on VIN, and whether they are available for all the 5 tunes worldwide. mine came with tune 4, which is Thailand tune. exhaust was choked down to 78 DB per frame sticker. But not now! :)

    A very helpful & informative video, George. As mentioned by previous comments the sound drops out a bit in places, the worst time when you demonstrate resetting the cam chain tensioner. I can recommend to anyone that's a bit unsure of this procedure they watch a video by Muddysump - Tiger 800 Cam Chain Tensioner Reset. The Tiger 800 tensioner differs slightly in appearance to the Twins but is basically the same design & procedure to reset. I would like to know, could the original two camshaft sprocket bolts be loosened off before removing the original cam from the engine ? to avoid possible damage from clamping in a vice.

    • @SavioureG
      @SavioureG 4 года назад

      Its the official Triumph Bench Seat, you can find it on their website (www.triumphworld.de/index.php?cPath=3_1464_1465_1467&page=2).
      Personally though I think its overpriced, I recommend British Customs Rambler or Crafton Atelier Rambler, generally better quality, is slightly cheaper, provides extra seat height and imo looks better.

    Hi....just wondering watching this video...are the cams on the 900 and 1200 a bit on the weak side to be covering a video showing how to replace them?
    Its ok...further into the vid You explained why you change the cams and that they are good for 100k miles.
    Thank you for a very informative video.

    • @TECBikeParts
      @TECBikeParts  5 лет назад +2

      Hi
      The easy way is to use our Thruxton adjustable length shocks, these are available with or without damping adjustment. If you use them without the supplied spacer fitted you can drop the seat height down as much as 2 inches if required. see links - shop.tecbikeparts.com/products/adjustable-gas-shocks-thruxton

    • @SavioureG

      Its actually pretty straightforward if you watch the whole video, the only part I'm not certain about is the tightening of the screw on the cam itself (don't know why he didn't re-use the old one or why he didn't screw in the ones before putting it under the chain) and the valve clearance part, but I only watched the video once, I'll be watching it several times before i even have the money or time to attempt this lol.
