Learning Product Development

- In 2019 I wanted to teach myself product development while filming the whole process. It took a lot longer than expected and I burned out pretty hard near the end(2021).
And yes I was doing it all myself which I now know is not very smart, it's just too much for one person. You really need a team of people to bring a product to market, or at least a few founders. I guess this was more of a learning experience than anything else. I knew I needed to gain experience in commercialization as my normal builds were quite sketchy. So it was good to try and build something solid over long periods.
These first 5 months included a lot of electrical hardware design(PCBs) and embedded software development. I do want to catch you guys up on everything so I'll be making videos in roughly 5-month chunks between 2019-2022. Until we get more up-to-date, I think it just makes the most sense to post the footage in order.

I literally got a CS degree since your last video 😂 you were my early motivation to keep going & now it’s awesome to see you’re back
LOL, I'm now about to start. Wishing myself the best of luck
@@Black-mz4wy it’ll probably be tough but definitely worth it :)
i've finished the first 3 years of my 4 year masters course in CS since the last video XD
I watched his videos before I made the switch to computer science. I graduated and found a job since his last upload. Crazy how time flys.
@@mattl1598 ayyy congrats keep it up!
Only 2 years left to the new video release!
Cant wait 3 more years for the next video❤

What Type of engineer ?
Finally some Devon Crawford after years, you need to do a q&a
agreed
Oh, god Yes!
Absolutely
I will host with Devon ?
agreed
He's back!!! 🔥 You were such a big inspiration to get into programming. Good to see you back
it's been 5 months already, wow... i was so hyped in the day this video released
Devon, you're a legend and you really inspire a lot of us :) peace man
11 now
Interesting how Devon hasn't lost that many subscribers after all this time, it seems you brothers are just like me... Come back here for the nostalgia sometimes, haven't found anyone that delivers Devon's format. Wishing you all the best Devon, hope you're doing great...
I usually only unsubscribe a channel when they start posting weird shit. I doubt many people go out of their way to unsubscribe channels that stopped posting because those channels stop being on your radar anyway
Finally the legend returned.
Thank you for bringing a whole generation of CS students back to one place, your channel!
One of my original motivators whennI started my CS degree, its been 3 years now since I graduated! How time flies, good to see you’re not dead and still building
Dude when I watched your last video I was still a confused kid learning how to code and you were motivating me to study every day... 3 years later I'm an experienced engineer! Missed you my man. Welcome back.
As we needed him most ... he returned. Jeez I watched you as I was a little school kid got inspired niw I'm finishing my 3rd year BSc computer science thanks for the journey
How is it that you watched him as a “little school kid”, but now you’re in your 3rd year for BSc? That makes no sense lmao He wasn’t gone that long bro
He was gone 3 years so maybe he was just exaggerating?
@@strawberry_lacroix yeah I'm exaggerating but I watched him in school now I'm at uni
@@strawberry_lacroix wydm? I watched him as a toddler and just became 65 years old. It happens!
If 4.5k views in an hour doesn't tell you, then we all really missed having some Devon Crawford videos. Getting to see you work through problems, realizations and all. We're glad to have you back!
I don't think this needs to be said, but I'm sure if 1 Month updates fit into your schedule, we'd all love to continue to watch and join your journey!
I still put on your old videos at least once a week while coding at work love listening to the passion for development that you convey in your videos.
“We’re getting back into it”
So that was a fucking lie.
Bro... You're back.
Since you're last video I almost went from a noob to a entry-level engineer. Even got a job.
You are a huge inspiration.
OH MY GOD, Devon you have changed my life. I'm a developer almost done with college and run a startup, freelance and do very well for myself. You made programming look exciting. I've gone down such a fulling path because of you. I knew you from the Minecraft days. Listen, Devon, I'm not the only one. You have changed hundreds or thousands of lives, and have made plenty of programmers.
Keep it up!! =)
How would you do college, a startup, and freelancing at the same time? Sounds like bs to me. Also college is a scam, especially for programming; learned that first hand...
@@griefy4555 Coded the startup for the past 3 months, while marketing at the same time. I have connections to influencers in the space so that really helped. I’ve been coding since I was 15, so it makes comp Sci classes super easy for me, so I don’t try much in school. For personal income I have a consulting agency with a friend and that has done well for us. Things work when you dedicate time.
@@KohlByrd The amount of people who have stared businesses since his last video is insane.
how much do you make
Thank you, Devon! I’m very grateful that I came across with your videos a few years ago, when I was still studying CS your videos gave me motivation because it actually showed me the “reality” of what’s like struggling and not just showing off your successes only but also your failures, it made me so happy to realize that to become a great software engineer you don’t have to be a genius, I appreciate that you came back! Keep the quality of the content up!!! We support you Devon!!!
I've been rewatching most of your videos to get inspiration to develop and finish college. You are such a motivation for me, your projects are so cool!
Welcome back!
Glad to have him back. Still the most entertaining videos on coding and development process on the platform.
Everyone finishing their CS'es and getting a job as I can see in the comments, and I gotta say I also finally got my first fullstack dev position two weeks ago! Glad you returned my man, your videos inspired me as I love both programming and video production, and you show mastery on both fields
Are oyu greek ?
Hello i am still alive and was working on a project for the past 3 years:
proceeds to disappear again
Thank you for your return Mr Devon. This brings me great joy.
You are one of the primary reasons I started pursuing CS, and I am nearly done with my degree now. Thanks for finally uploading Devon
Same boat, watched him in first semester and I'm now on my final
Bro that’s so inspiring
I forgot how genuinely good your videos were, I was just a silly highschool student when I first started watching and thinking all CS stuff is impossible, and now I’m a 3rd year CS student watching these videos and getting exactly where you are coming from and can really appreciate your work on a more intimate level.
You are legendary men, I'm so glad you came back because it means one thing .. no matter how hard the past was you can always start again!
Don't tell me we have to wait another 3 years for another video.

Working on a degree at UoG and a software development hobby all because I saw your videos in highschool. Never stop doing what you love, Devon!

Man now I'm a junior backend developer and I started watching you when I first wrote my Hello World program. This channel is such a motivational masterpiece for a lot of students/self learners! So glad your back
as a person who used to learn this, i can feel how hard it is, your effort is so inspiring, keep it up, hope to see more of your content
I would literally watch your videos while in the midst of getting my CS degree. I already graduated and was thinking about you recently. Glad to see you're ALIVE! You've inspired me and many others!
Woah man, I forgot I used to watch your videos back in the day. I was teaching myself programming at the time, and now I'm at my second dev job, working as a full stack web dev. Wild that you just popped up in my recommendations again
I was into my second year in CS studies since your last video, now engineer, and with a job, you were a truly inspiration, i'm so happy you are back, I was waiting the all time .
Like everyone else, I am so inspired by your videos, Devon. I discovered your videos during my freshman year just starting to learn cs, and these videos assure me how interesting the cs field is. I literally rewatch your "what I learn as a cs student in 3 years" video every year and it is exciting to find out that I actually do know what you are talking about as time goes by. Thank you so much for sharing with us your amazing videos and experiences, and I'm so glad to see you go back here!
You were an inspiration for me to push forward, and your videos got me motivated through my college days. Now I've graduated, and It feels so nostalgic to see you programming and working again. I really miss this. I hope you don't stop posting those videos as I'm sure that it is an inspiration for all software engineers who aspire to be the best.
So glad to see you again. When I first found your channel I was so interested in Computer Science but I just kept telling myself I wasn't smart enough for it, regardless of that watching your videos was an awesome inspiration at the time so I decided to give it a go and now I am one semester away from graduating as a computer programmer and analyst. I've been feeling very unmotivated towards my own projects and honestly this video came up at the right time and the right moment.
Stay creative Devon, and thank you for sharing all of this.
After many months im rewatching this again, id say you were the one that made me more interested in programming and really inspired me in taking CS. Now im doing my capstone project and thinking of vlogging it the way you do it hopefully to inspire others too
Finally, my periodic checking in on this channel has delivered a video.
I'm so glad you are back. You really motivate me to get my stuff done and to learn new side projects. Thank you so much men, keep it going!
It’s crazy to see you back, I made it through Grad School while you were gone. Data Science Masters!
Your old videos inspired me through all of my schooling. You were a massive inspiration for that.
Your videos inspired me to get into computer science and programming. Now, 3 years later, I am an educator and teach dozens of people programming, web development in particular. About to start my own RUclips channel and build an educational platform. Thank you so much for your videos and content! I am so excited you are back! 🎉🔥
Im so happy you’re back.
I’m reading a lot of comments of people about their programming career growth since you left and I just want to leave mine too.
You were a HUGE inspiration to actually sit down and get the learning done to achieve my professional goals and now I’m working full time at a very promising startup. I’m sure I wouldn’t be here without the inspo you gave me to to get my shit done and actually learn how to code.
Keep up with the great videos man, we all missed you.
I started programming personal projects after your last video and now this is going to kickstart me onto the next project I've held off on for a while 😃 really glad to see you back!
Sorry to hear you worked yourself in to a burnout, hope you've fully recovered from it. Your projects are amazing, I'm really impressed by the effort you're putting in. Glad seeing you're back here on RUclips!
Every year I was coming back to check if you were back, honestly what a surprise when I did check again yesterday :)
So glad to see a video from you, one of the few RUclipsrs I always enjoyed.
Great to see you comeback man! one of my youtube inspirations on why I'm pursuing Engineering now in university.
Glad to have you back! As someone else said, I also got my CS degree since your last video and also got a full time SDE role! Seeing this was honestly nostalgic, just remembering watching your older videos and where I was back then and now seeing where you are now doing great things still. Really excited to see your future videos! Keep kicking ass, Devon!
Went to a codecamp school after dropping out of college since your last video, now I'm a senior product head at a med tech startup. You inspired me and a lot of other people here as well. Glad to have you back Devin. 10/10 videos as always 🔥
holy smokes its a blessing see you here again. thanks for that
Feels so good to have you back, man!
I just started a 2.5 years associates degree in CS and I could say you've played an important part throughout my middle school years in becoming interested in CS and tech in general
Thank god you returned, your videos are my main inspiration for computer science & programming as a whole.
Nice to see you back!, hope you're here for a while.
You are an absolute legend and an inspiration. Was getting sick of programming but your videos gave me a new breath
Welp…he disappeared again..
Devon is literally the person who made me fall in love with programming and Arduinos. I started watching his videos back when all I could do was print "Hello World" in C++ and Python, 4-ish years ago, and now I'm a full-time backend developer.
Your video 3 Years of Computer Science in 8 Minutes have motivated me a lot and helped me learn many more things all thx to you, keep up the good work Devon 👍
I'm so happy you are back!!!! Thanks for that and don't stop posting
Hey man, I don't know if you get this often but... I just wanted to leave a written gratitude comment, you were my first light into what was the software development world in times where I didn't know what to do with my life professionally speaking, your videos gave me meaning to a guy without career, and if I soar to new heights it will be because I got to know them from you who I look up to.
Man, 3 years ago when I watched your last video, I was finishing highschool, now I am working as a software developer(and also worked myself to death).
Good to see you again.
Glad you're back with the videos! I missed it a lot, the videos give me a lot of courage to continue learning to program, and doing projects! Glad you kept evolving too!
I started watching your videos when I entered college, and now I'm almost graduating, it's been about 3 years since you, and we've evolved!
Nice to see you again Devon. While watching your videos i always can feel the pain you experience during the process and how overwhelming and frustrating some problems in software development can be. But solving them at the end is one of the most pleasurable feelings in the world. Videos like this always gave me motivition to dont stagnate in software development, worthless how complicated the topic is. Hope to see more uploads from you again in the future.
Wow...never thought I would see a devon upload again. Feel like most of us grew up along with you. Crazy the last video from you feels like it was from a different world, pre-covid, probably most of us back in or just starting college. Great to see you back!
I started following you more or less 3 years ago when I was still in high school. Went to university to study electronic engineering also becuase i was inspired by you. After one and a half year i changed to mathematical engineering becuase Mathematics was a lot more intresing from my point of view, but still got kind of chills when you upload a new video.
Cheers from Italy! :)
Used to watch all your old videos during my CS degree, great to see you back again
Halfway done with my IT Automotive Degree, you really inspired me with your Videos
Thanks for coming back
you are killing this channel come on dude plan something dont leave the audience like that
As of your last video, I was in my first year of my comp sci degree. As of this video, I'm graduated & a software engineer for Amazon in Vancouver BC. Great to have you back, Devon! 😊
My go to channel when I needed a reminder of why I love this field. That was back in college…full dev now. Welcome back! Your curiosity is contagious.
I'm so glad you're back, Devon! Pretty sure you were an inspiration to many devs the same way you were/is for me.
In the time since your last video I went through 4 semesters of college for CS, realized that I didn't want to do CS as a career, and quit school after getting a job in the event production industry and its been great. I still enjoy CS as a hobby but definitely not for a job or school. All of this means nothing to the fact that I'm glad to see you're back!
This is very similar to me. Around his last few uploads I was in a CS program and completed 6 quarters then left and became a electrician. I am now roughly three years into commercial electrical, and occasionally draw back to CS as a hobby/something I would still like to learn as a backup plan incase I am ever injured and cannot sustain working in construction anymore.
DUDE DONT DISAPPEAR ALL OVER AGAIN!
Bro, you are a super important guy in my tech career. Since your last video, I managed to evolve technically and personally. Its content is unique, I confess that this notification made me very happy.
I got a job, good grades in college and a business mindset thanks to your videos.
It's great to see you well Devon, hope to see more of your videos!
I took up computer science after watching and getting inspired by you. Its almost been 3 years, now that i am almost graduating, i feel like you have played a small part in my career and this journey. Thank you so much devon, feels nice to see you comeback.

Congrats man 🎉, I am a second year computer science student do you have any tips on how to get into cybersecurity and become a cybersecurity analyst?
@@rpstardustx8360 you could learn free courses online, and take certifications such as CCNA, but i suggest take the ISC2 Certified Cybersecurity exam, it’s one of the first step of breaking into cybersecurity. Build a solid foundation in networking and understand the concepts of the CIA triad, and etc. As a fresh graduate nobody expects you to know everything but showing the recruiters that you are learning on your own, being resourceful, is the key in getting your first job in cybersecurity. Goodluck!
Finally he is back!
Noo wayyyyyy you’re back! Man i used to watch you’re videos when i was a freshman and now I’m working full time in a big company. I’m glad i found this channel 3 years ago. I love that you’re back
It's so cool to see you again, It's kinda strange because I discovered you at the moment when I was starting to code, now I'm student in 3D and I'm still coding, but It was strange to see adventures of an other dude trying stuff, developping his own project and stuff.
You have much more knowledges than I have but still I like so much the mood in your video, developping your own project because it's what you like.

I can relate to this so much, I've been building a moped for the last 2.5 years or so. It was supposed to be done in the summer of 2021 and only last month it moved under it's own power. Also it looked like it's gonna blow up any second now. Yeah I know, deadlines are literally dead to me.
