The video that started my journey to becoming a Flo Lum fan two years ago. Thank you for making all these amazing videos over the years! I really appreciate everything you and Dude have done and looking forward to more tasty videos that are simple, extraordinary, and joyful for those who eat it :D
I made this last night and it was absolutely The best chicken I’ve ever made. Super juicy and tender. Thank you 🙏 so much for sharing your knowledge with us.
Wow, my chicken turned out so amazing! I’ve never had chicken breast this moist and yummy! My chicken was under 3 pounds so I cooked it for 15 min. Probably could cook it just a few min more since I opt to not broil it in the oven; as there was a bit of redness. Additionally, I mixed in a spoonful of brown sugar to the juice to tone down the tartness, and it was perfect! Thank you, Flo for this great recipe!
Flo thank you for all your videos... I love them all!! I just got my Instat Pot 2weeks ago and don't know how I lived without something so amazing for so long. It's one of the best investments I've made for my family. My next Instant Pot purchases will be the smart Instant Pot bluetooth enabled one for sure.
Hi Flo I cooked my whole chicken yesterday as my first attempt using your method it was fantastic my husband enjoyed it to he said it was better then the slow cooked chicken never going back now .
+xavier6279 I am so glad to hear that it turned out well! I have to say I never enjoyed slow cooked chicken but cooked it that way out of convenience. With the pressure cooker, you can have it cooked quickly. Thanks for your comment! 😊
Love the kitchen and it's good to see you back! I have had my IP for a few months now. It is a learning experience every time I cook with it and your videos help. Don't be a stranger and come back more often! Happy cooking! :-)
Thanks for this video and others I'm going to try the whole chicken in my new instant pot i received for Xmas and have been using almost daily ever since lol. I'm going to try your version of a whole chicken in the instant pot tomorrow.
Nice video. I would brown my bird in a sauté pan and then transfer to pressure cooker. Extra browning in the oven while resting on the potatoes is brilliant.
Flo I love your video's. I also must admit I'm learning quite a bit from you on using my IP. I'm a great cook but the IP is so new to me. Thanks for teaching me how to use it!.
Not new to pressure cooking but got my first InstaPot delivered today. Of course, I've been scouring RUclips for the past few days looking for ideas/how-to's/recipes. I've watched several of yours, subscribed, and thank you for uploading! PS first dish is beef pho, waiting on the NPR now!
Sorry about your fall at Library, glad you are okay. I am using same pot and process to make roast chicken. Once the chicken is ready to go to oven, sprinkle some Paprika on the chicken and you would have amazing chicken, and with much better flavoring.
Wow a chicken can be cooked in such a short time. It reminded me of the chicken I first cook when I left home. It was Christmas my partner and me had flu (bad cold) I declined Christmas dinner at my mum's. cooked a chicken for 10 hrs. let's just say the next 9 Christmas dinners was eaten at my mum's xx
I do something similar. I cook in pot with no seasoning. Then remove and season. I finish that with a roast at 400 on both sides for about 10 minutes. Crispy delicious skin and juicy chicken.
When I was young I had work 10 hours at a job, then trying to put up stud walls by myself. I passed out and when I came to the wall was On top of me. Only happened twice in my life so far. I wish you good health, and thanks for the instant pot information!
Wonderful video and I can't wait to give it a try. I was wondering if you've ever tackled boneless beef ribs in your IP. I love them braised in a dutch oven but am looking for a way to do them in my IP.
Hi Deborah, I just made boneless short ribs the other night. I made them similar to the way I would beef bourguignon and it turned out tender and delicious. Hope that's helpful.
Vitamin Water works great for people with POTS Syndrome. The Lemonade flavor specifically. It has electrolytes as well as needed vitamins. I have POTS and drink it everyday.
+FloLum - a better option than juice for hydration is actually these electrolyte tablets called "Nuun active hydration". I have a problem with plain water too, so I do those tablets and they really work! Plus not much sugar (1 carb per tablet).
May I suggest trussing the chicken with heavy kitchen twine trying the ends of the legs together and then wrap the twine around the folded wings. tie securely. first, juice the lemon and insert the peels along withe sprigs of time etc. into the body. Using navy fork tines maneuver the chicken to brown before pressure cooking.
Thank you for the very informative video. The food looks very yummy. I did want to let you know something I saw in America's test kitchen video about the quick release. They stated during one of their demonstrations that quick release should not be used for meats, probably more of a reference to beef because quick release causes the meat to seize and not be as tender. I do not know whether this refers to chicken as well. I hope you find that as helpful as I did and thanks again for your videos.
+raimcg Yes, I've read that as well. I'm not sure if it refers to chicken either but I don't want the chicken to overcook. I have found the chicken to be juicy and the perfect texture. (I don't like fall off the bone, mealy textured chicken.) Thanks for your thoughtful comment!
Getting ready to do my first roast chicken in my new iPot! This was really helpful. I have a few vegetables which I understand I can cook in the broth when the chicken is cooling so they don't get mushy! I have that same problem with hydration. Dr called it IHSS, and if I get dehyrated I have symptoms like a TIA!! I use essential oils in my water & it seems to help.
The chicken was great! But I ended up getting company & when I put my vegetables in the beautiful broth, I didn't set it correctly.& they were Mush & burned!! I'll take my time next time and make my company wait.
My family and I love this chicken. We skipped the oven step. Made gravy out of the liquid in the bottom of the pot. It's definitely a staple on our house!
Thank you so much for your videos. I'm new to the IP and learn something new on each of your posts. Anxiously awaiting your Hainanese Chicken. Right now, chicken is defrosting and look forward to tonights dinner. ( PS. Loved the French episode. Beautiful!).
Two things I learned today from you (which I appreciate very much) 1. I didn't know you could adjust the saute button to more. 2. I have the same problem about "fainting" and didn't know that I was dehydrated-because I drink a lot of water also. Do you think by adding some pink salt to the water it would help with dehydration? I really missed you and your videos, please take care so we all can all enjoy your videos and learn so much from you. Just to add one more comment I like that you are teaching how to use the app, and how to program it. I don't think that there is anyone else showing how on their channel
+PineMountainVentures You are so kind! Thank you! I am so glad you are learning something from my videos. My doc said I needed more electrolytes and I associate that with Gatorade or other drinks like that but she said if I just dilute juice that would work too. I don't know about salt.
+Snow57flake Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Cut potatoes into quarters, toss with salt & pepper, olive oil and several pats of butter. Spread in single layer on a baking sheet and bake for 30 mins. I added the chicken when there was 10 mins left and also gave them a quick stir.
+Joi Stevens Thanks so much! This was several months ago and I went to get checked out right away. It took forever for that bruise on my chin to heal though.
Stay healthy. You seem real nice. I just bought an IP. I will probably skin the chicken. I pretty much just want to put it in the cooker and eat it when done. :-)
Thanks so much for your videos. I am new to the Insta pot and your videos are a godsend. I'm curious to know if you've ever canned any jams or jellies in your Insta pot?
+tracy holland I'm sorry, Tracy. For some reason I am only seeing this comment now. I have a pot roast recipe and one for beef bourguignon. Also a couple for pork shoulder. Check out the channel to see more. Thanks!
There is two reasons to drink a water. 1. To hydrate yourself you should sip water frequently so it gets absorbed by your body to hydrate it. Do not force fluids. 8 glasses a day is highly overrated. 2. To flash toxins from your kidney, liver etc. drink a lot and often, then it goes out of you flashing. Do not do it often or you along with toxins flashing out minerals from you body that you need to keep in. That's why electrolytes are recommended to replenish loss of minerals. Adding electrolytes is a good idea though.. Nice chicken, I'm new to PC so I'm grateful for your instruction. Thanks for sharing and take a good care of yourself.
+Marina Hoffmann Thank you for the reminder about the electrolytes. I've fallen back into my regular water only routine. Hope you are enjoying your PC!
watching u wrestle that chicken with those tongs cracked me up but i love this video instapot owes u some royalties u just made my mind up for me i'm buying the instapot thanx pretty lady
Welcome back Flo. Just a friendly tip have you tried drinking coconut water? because it has good properties for hydration, since growing up in India I was taught this and continue to drink coconut water and it does not effect my blood sugar levels either.Best wishes Gillian
+Gillian Didier Serre Thanks, Gillian! Yes, I have read that coconut water will keep you hydrated. Thing is I've tried it and I didn't particularly like the taste of it. Maybe it was just the brand I tried. Will look into it again.
Just got my IP for xmas & I'm going to try your chicken recipe tomorrow for my first try. Sorry about your Hypotention. I have Orthostatic Hypotention at times too. Stood up too fast & wondering just how dark it was going to get before I passed out, I just dropped down taking a chair that I was holding onto over on top of me. I woke up with my granddaughter asking what happened & dog licking my face. Hope they have you straightened out now! Love your channel! Thanks for sharing :)
I just cooked 2 chicken thighs and 3 legs in the instant pot. I used the manual button on high pressure and increased the time to 30 minutes and the chicken cooked but it wasn't fall off the bone. Is there any difference in using the meat/stew button versus the manual button. The instruction manual says use the meat/stew button and use the adjust key for bone stripping effect on meat. From what I can tell all that does is increase the amount of time and nothing else. I can't really determine any significant difference between the meat/stew and the manual modes of operation. Any thoughts on this? Thanks very much for your valuable time.
I think there are a few bloggers that have written about the differences between the preset functions but I really only use the manual button. 30 mins seems very long to me but I like my chicken just cooked, not necessarily fall off the bone but juicy and holds its shape. I would have imagined 30 mins to be more than sufficient if you like it fall off the bone because I can cook a whole 3lb chicken in less than 18 min. If it was more than that it becomes fall off the bone and I would have trouble lifting the chicken out of the pot. So, I'm not sure how to help you here.
2 questions - 1) what temperature did you set the oven to when you wanted to brown the skin? 2) were the potatoes already precooked, and you just wanted to warm them up, or were they raw before they were put in the oven? Thanks in advance!
Hi, really enjoyed your videos. I have not bought an Instant Pot yet, still doing research to see if it's worth it and can't decide on the 6qt or 8qt size. Which size is yours? Thanks again! E. B.
+Eunice Cupples Thanks, Eunice! It's definitely a different way of cooking but it makes my life easier since many things take far less time than conventional methods. However, I don't see it as a replacement for everything. Some things are better in the pot, some things are not. I have 2 x 6qts.
Sorry for your fall. I didn't even notice your bruise until you pointed it out. You need to always get up slowly to allow your blood pressure to equalize. Thanks for your chicken recipe. I'm excited to have found your show.
Love your videos. Do you suggest breast side down or up when cooking under pressure whole chicken? I tried your method (6 min per lb), breast up, and the breast and inside leg was a raw. any ideas? the chicken was fresh out of the fridge. thanks!
Hmm... That is strange. I cook it breast side up and also straight out of the fridge. Are you using an Instant Pot? Apparently pressure cookers differ in psi and may be more/less powerful?
Flo Lum yes I have the 6 qt IP. Works perfectly fine except this chicken recipe. I'll try again. Weigh it instead of relying on labelled weight and see what happens!!!
The water thing is because they’ve taken all the good minerals and good bacteria out of the water. Our body craves ‘Living’ water, but alas, like our poor soils, water is no longer living, only sterile. Also, our atmospheric pressures are changing, so the body just gets rid of any more than 3-4 oz of liquid at a time. Best is whatever liquid you are using for hydration, drink in small amounts, but more often. Love your vids! You got me hooked on IP-I hope you’re getting royalties, lol🤗🏅
Hi Flo, Another great vid. I'm going to try this tonight (24/1//17) . Not roasting anything else so will "blowtorch" the skin Luv the weight x 5.5. Written that down. Sorry about the hypertension. Not good,Mum had it and got injured several times. Hows the sous vide. John M (in the UK)
Hey John, how did it go? Hope it turned out well for you. Sous vide is great when I can plan ahead but a lot of times, I'm wondering what's for dinner at 5pm.
Luv your channel! We are mainly whole food plant based but every now and then we feel the need for some meat. We are also addicted to the instant pot. We use a duo 6 and 8 quart and because I am a belt and suspenders kind of guy we have a duo 6 i bought on sale in the storage closet just Incase one breaks. We use our instant pots at least 5 days a week. I’m really wanting one of the new Bluetooth or ultra versions, are they worth going to?
Can't speak to the Ultra since I don't have one of those. But here is a video that goes through the differences between a DUO and Smart. ruclips.net/video/mK43nI5hmRU/видео.html Also... I only really ever just use the manual button. 😉
+T L I have never enjoyed chicken cooked in the slow cooker. I also have never used the slow cooker mode on the IP. It definitely taste better pressure cooker.
What type of oil? Grape Seed? Olive oil. We use unsalted butter. Good? I'm determined since the chicken is so moist. Any preference of chicken? Free range, air chilled should chicken be at room temp?
+Carol Viotti Lately I just use what I have but when I roast chicken in the oven, I like to use grapeseed oil as it has a higher burn temperature than other oils and it's in the oven for 1.5 hours. In the video, I just used vegetable oil because the IP doesn't get that hot. I usually buy organic or free range chicken and I don't bring it up to room temp. =)
So in one of your shows you mentioned your smart Poy was recalled. I haven’t seen a smart version anywhere I’ve looked over the past few months. Is it not being sold anymore? Or is it coming back? If it’s coming back I hope it’s offered to newer customers like me,who spent about $150 on this thing today, a major incentive to upgrade. Love the smart features. Do you know? Thanks.
Yes... the Smart pot has been discontinued. It's too bad. They also did not keep up with the app. I can no longer create scripts on my app. They definitely could have done a better job. That pot was expensive!
Not in a video but you can. Cook time is the same, it'll just take longer to come up to pressure but don't stuff the frozen chicken though. Just add the ingredients to the pot.
I watched both your whole duck video and your whole chicken video too. I would like to try cooking the duck the same way you did the chicken. Do you think this would work? Thank you!
Hmmm... I have not done a whole duck so I’m not sure which video you are referring to. I’ve done a duck curry where I use a whole roasted duck and I’ve done duck breasts. That said, I don’t think I would ever pressure cook a duck. I am most likely to sous vide it slowly roast. Hope that helps.
The video that started my journey to becoming a Flo Lum fan two years ago. Thank you for making all these amazing videos over the years! I really appreciate everything you and Dude have done and looking forward to more tasty videos that are simple, extraordinary, and joyful for those who eat it :D

I always turn to your recipe when I want to make a whole chicken in my Instant Pot. So yummy. Thanks
Love the Instant Pot recipes. I just bought one and we have no idea what to do with it. Please keep them coming.
Coconut water is good for hydration. Can also add a little salt and sugar for increased effect.
Poor you. The exact same thing happened to me at the library. It's always worse for me in winter. Thanks for the tutorial. Looks really yummy.
I am sorry about your fall. Your demo was better and more realistic than any Infomercial I have seen. Great job using aromatics and browning the bird.
+Cadmar Business Suite Thanks! I am all healed now. Took forever! Appreciate your kind comment!
You are very welcome and a very graceful woman who operates in excellence.
At what temperature do you roast the chicken.?
Flo thank you for all your videos... I love them all!! I just got my Instat Pot 2weeks ago and don't know how I lived without something so amazing for so long. It's one of the best investments I've made for my family. My next Instant Pot purchases will be the smart Instant Pot bluetooth enabled one for sure.
+you, me & everything in between! I know what you mean! That's how I felt when I first got mine!

+Yolande Brodeur Thanks! Appreciate the encouragement!
I made this yesterday. It was AMAZING! Thank you SO much!!!!
This recipe is so good. Me and my husband really enjoyed it. Thank you so much 😊
did my 1st whole chicken today using your 5.5 min rule. chicken was perfect! using 8 qt GoWise.
thank you for your videos, really helpful.
Awesome! So glad it worked for you!
I am so sorry you experienced that. Thank you for the recipe and happy new year! 🎆

Loved the video thanks! Just had the water thing happen to me this week to! Dr says smart water for me!

I do something similar. I cook in pot with no seasoning. Then remove and season. I finish that with a roast at 400 on both sides for about 10 minutes. Crispy delicious skin and juicy chicken.
Excellent!
I love your videos, they teach me a lot. Especially where I’m learning how to use my instant pot more.Say hello to dude for me!🤛

Thanks, Lizzy! Glad you are enjoying them!

Looks delish! And there’s no need to broil it if you like boiled chicken or want to cut it up for chicken salad or something.
Coconut Water has loads of electrolytes , plus it's a healthy way of getting them into you.
Vitamin Water works great for people with POTS Syndrome. The Lemonade flavor specifically. It has electrolytes as well as needed vitamins. I have POTS and drink it everyday.

Hi, have you tried osso bucco in the instant pot? Would love to see a video on it. Thanks for your great videos.

Look yummy! I'll definitely make it for dinner real soon.
+NotAWeeb_ Great! Will have to let me know how it turns out!
Heal fast! I've been watching all of your Instant Pot videos and love them!
+Aunt Duddie Thanks so much! My chin finally fully healed after 5 months!
shoot, I have a broken arm, thumb and hand that have been paining me for 6 1/2 years!
Wow! 5 months. I'm glad you are better. :)

Thank you for this video. Could you comment quickly on the roast potatoes. Oven temperature and for how long?
+Snow57flake Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Cut potatoes into quarters, toss with salt & pepper, olive oil and several pats of butter. Spread in single layer on a baking sheet and bake for 30 mins. I added the chicken when there was 10 mins left and also gave them a quick stir.
Welcome back! So glad you didn't get hurt any more severely!!
+Becca Thanks so much, Becca! I know, right?! My husband pointed out that I could have snapped my neck back the way I fell.
Hi there, how would I cook it if I have a Duo IP? Thanks in advance!
+tjkbacha Same way. Just manually enter the amount of time using the formula 5.5 mins per pound.
Thank you for your excellent ideas !!
You two are entertaining as well as good information on cooking! Make sure you did not injure your cervical vertebrae in your neck when you fell.
Thanks, Tracy! As far as I know, the Instant Pot cannot be used for canning. So glad you are enjoying the videos!
+Flo Lum Do you have a Instapot recipe for Brisket? Or any other tough meat?
+tracy holland I'm sorry, Tracy. For some reason I am only seeing this comment now. I have a pot roast recipe and one for beef bourguignon. Also a couple for pork shoulder. Check out the channel to see more. Thanks!
Your chicken looks so delicious! I do have a question about how you programed the pot to cook from your phone. What app are you using!
I'm doing a whole chicken for dinner tonite. I love it!
Great video! Good tip on 5.5 per pound. Never knew that. 👏
Made this last night - my first whole chicken attempt in the Instant Pot. Yum!
+Patricia Brune Great! Glad it turned out!

Since you brown the chicken under the broiler at the end anyway, is it still necessary to saute/brown it before pressure cooking it?
There is two reasons to drink a water.
1. To hydrate yourself you should sip water frequently so it gets absorbed by your body to hydrate it. Do not force fluids. 8 glasses a day is highly overrated.
2. To flash toxins from your kidney, liver etc. drink a lot and often, then it goes out of you flashing. Do not do it often or you along with toxins flashing out minerals from you body that you need to keep in. That's why electrolytes are recommended to replenish loss of minerals.

Thanks for sharing and take a good care of yourself.
+Marina Hoffmann Thank you for the reminder about the electrolytes. I've fallen back into my regular water only routine. Hope you are enjoying your PC!
Can you share if you have the timing down on cooking chicken thighs? Still use the same math as for a whole chicken? Thanks!!
Bone in thighs only take about 8 mins to cook. 10 mins if you don't brown them first. Boneless thighs can be done in 5-6 mins. Hope that helps.
This looks great! I hope you are doing better, stay safe ♥️
watching u wrestle that chicken with those tongs cracked me up but i love this video instapot owes u some royalties u just made my mind up for me i'm buying the instapot thanx pretty lady

I woke up with my granddaughter asking what happened & dog licking my face. Hope they have you straightened out now! Love your channel! Thanks for sharing :)
I just cooked 2 chicken thighs and 3 legs in the instant pot. I used the
manual button on high pressure and increased the time to 30 minutes and
the chicken cooked but it wasn't fall off the bone. Is there any
difference in using the meat/stew button versus the manual button. The
instruction manual says use the meat/stew button and use the adjust key
for bone stripping effect on meat. From what I can tell all that does is
increase the amount of time and nothing else. I can't really determine
any significant difference between the meat/stew and the manual modes of
operation. Any thoughts on this? Thanks very much for your valuable
time.
Thanks in advance!
what temperature is the oven on at the end when we put it in for 10-15 min?
Because I was roasting potatoes, it was probably 425 degrees F. If you're not doing that, I would just broil it for a few minutes.
What was the app you used to set the timer?
+Julia Pace Thanks, Julia! It's all better now but it took forever! I try getting up slowly but it doesn't seem to matter.
Thanks for all your recipes! Just an FYI, coconut water has natural electrolytes. Keep hydrated!
+Denise Pichirallo Thanks, Denise! I've heard that but I haven't found a brand that I like.
Can you tell me what app you are using Flo? Thanks
It’s the app that works with the Smart model called Smart Cooker.
No royalties. =(
I am look at buying a instant pot. what size of pot did you use for your chicken?
+Colette Gardiner I only have the 6qt pots. I feed a family of 5 (3 adults and 2 kids) and I have not felt the need to get the 8qt.
Great video, thanks! I just bought the pot on Amazon. How did you use the iPhone? Is there an app for it?
+PistolStar The app works with the Bluetooth model; called Smart Cooker.
Adding rosemary in the cavity instead of thyme, plus garlic cloves, is also very yummy.
It could be nice also seeing and hearing you eat what you cooked, sort of tells how good it really was:)
+BestRipOriginal Will consider that. Thanks for the suggestion.
Flo Lum I agree! I'm dying to hear you "ooh and aah" as you taste it! (Or give seasoning tips post cooking!) Love your vids, thanks!
+Suruchi K LOL! 😂
Hi Flo, Another great vid. I'm going to try this tonight (24/1//17) . Not roasting anything else so will "blowtorch" the skin
Luv the weight x 5.5.
Awesome!...Please take care and make sure to drink juice. Wonderful Video!
+Franc Coleman Thanks so much, Franc! Drinking juice everyday now. 😉
What size instant pot are you using 6 or 8 quart?
6qt
ñice looking meal thanks how do you do the formula x5.5
+crow 43 Calculate the weight in pounds and multiply by 5.5 to get cook time.
Have you tried the slow cooker mode? Does chicken taste better pressure cooked or slow cooked to you?
That pot was expensive!
the beginning of my hot pot / slow cooker journey first video
Thanks for the recipe.small advice pls drink tender coconut water every day once or twice it really makes you energetic and very good for health.
Flo did you try the mealthy crisper yet. Not available till the end of June. Hoping they sent you one to try. I saw it on someone else’s channel.
Thanks for the video trying it tonight.
Great! How did it turn out?
Thanks for the reply I think I will buy fresh today I trust your judgement ✌
I think you did a chicken going into the IP Still frozen? Thank you Flo!
Not in a video but you can. Cook time is the same, it'll just take longer to come up to pressure but don't stuff the frozen chicken though. Just add the ingredients to the pot.
Thank you Flo, I did what you said and I have never had chicken that tasted like chicken so much😀
I saw on RUclips that you can do it so I tried it and it was exactly what you said to do, I’m impatient too!
Can you please share the name of the app you are using on your phone?
Smart Cooker
Hugs. Thank you for your video, from a fellow POTS spoonie.
What quart size instant pot are you using in this recipe?
6qt That was all they had back then.
