I'm born 1946 and remember seeing it done in the early 60's by Flatt and Scruggs and these people weren't even born then but man they are keeping it alive with performances that may be better. ruclips.net/video/FkaW2yyO4xQ/видео.html
Yeah this moves the flat picking guitar to the next generation. I remember when Tony Rice took it away from the late Don Reno. But Tony was nice enough to record with Don.

Little Maggie...one of the best songs ever....they do a good job on it.....along with Uncle Pen....hes the best I've heard in a long time.....he can also go that softer side...like Summertime with Marcus....
I'm doing that now
😜☮️
Thanks for the link🤘🤘
Im 52 and discovered Billy Strings by accident and now apparently I like bluegrass. I’ve been a classic rock, heavy metal guy my whole life but holy, how can anyone not like this picking
there's at least one video out there where billy is wearing a cryptopsy shirt, he's a metalhead too!
@@sisyphusinboots yes! Used to play in a metal band! I'm in the same position as Ricky, i went from a huge Buckethead fan (still am) to a huge Billy fan in seconds.
he is it man, I am with ya...
Im a metalhead too and for some reason billy got me into bluegrass, i always liked bluegrass growing up but never went in deep with it. Now i love it and am currently learning bluegrass guitar haha
Man...wasn't that something!
There’s more talent on that stage than there is in the entire billboard 100 combined.
Tommy Emmanuel can destroy any one of these players and I've seen him do it on stage.
@@PreservationEnthusiast Tommy Emmanuel must be so thankful you pointed this out. Also, he's not on the billboard 100 so your point is even dumber. Just calm down and enjoy the music bud
@@curtisfjames Who cares about billboard 100. That is some US crap. Tommy is from Oz. I have seen him play with Molly Tuttle and he completely *destroyed* her with his soloing.
@@PreservationEnthusiast yes, because that's what tommy is all about. On stage guitar duels, to destroy other players. Everything isn't a contest bud
@@curtisfjames I don't think he is about that at all. He simply sets out to entertain. But he is the greatest guitar player in the world, so when he plays with others it just happens.
I'm in my 70s and sometimes think our country has gone to hell in a handbasket. Then I see these great young musicians, and believe we'll make it after all.
As long as people play music like this, we aren’t in hell!
I'm 70 & just discovered this talented young man singing/ playing few months ago.
brother you should check out Corb Lund, and theres a bunch more, its alive and well. we just don't see it as much
Bluegrass blues worldwide Aloha from germany🐺
Through the darkest pits of hell, you can still whistle a tune!
2014: Billy along with Don Julin, played this as the recessional song at our wedding. I'll always love Little Maggie.
Molly Tuttle is all of us watching this dude play lol, an absolute virtuoso.
Band crushed it. I love how Molly will smile when she is enjoying the playing of others. shows a generous heart.
Smiling is the nature of bluegrass, from novice to Tuttle. :)
Billy Strings has that affect on people :)
What a fantastic antedote to the stuff Nashville is vomitting out in the name of "Country" these days. Authentic music played by traditional musicians.
You only have to look under the covers. I grew up on rock and roll as teen. I found bluegrass, jazz, blues, classical, as a teen too. Bluegrass has a strong current supporting it, courtesy of Old Town School of Folk, KFC, Greyfox, MerleFest, Mole Lake BG fest WI, Charlotte's Web, WMNF, etc. Good bluegrass is mecca. I found mecca in Louisville.
Hey Mark Charts-- Remember when we slept under the bridge in Lowville for 4 days during the KFC festival in 1979???
@@thomasfoss9963 Yup. Them were the days.
I may be wrong, but I think general audiences/consumers of most music genres prefer gimmicks and cheap showmanship over real, straight forward talent. We have to hunt for the good stuff. RUclips has actually been pretty good to me for that.
Amen Brother
If this is the future of bluegrass....it's in good hands!!!
Well stated
or fingers!
@R-77 freeborn man -- jimmy martin wrote the OG. there are countless covers though. Greenskys All Access does a good one, Billy does like a buncha fantastic ones you can find on youtube, one he did with sierra hull is FIRE
Randy Elliott damn they murdered it!!! Amazing
The shot at 50 seconds where they are all picking in sync is honestly beautiful
That call and response between Strings and Tuttle straight into the slightly atonal crescendo was really special.
Alex Stewart I was spell-bound.
Alex Stewart No kidding. Very special when guitar pickers can talk to each via the instrument. Great connection!
They synced up perfectly by 4:45
4:45-->5:15 tear inducing magic
Some of the best music I've been blessed to hear
It’s a language only a few can speak.
I really wish more people got that. The crescendo was amazing with a lot of change ups. That was the best set I maybe have ever heard. True to the bluegrass style, but they had a lot of fun doing that one. Look how they all look over at Billy when he takes over. It was super high energy, and I cannot stop watching this performance. I bought his newest album, but I like the group sessions better.
Gotcha beat on the age. I'm a 79 yr. old lady in Virginia who is mesmerized by thus stuff. Unbelievable talent here. ❤❤
And to be from Va. Where I sat and listened to Ralph Stanley play this song at his Bluegrass festival.
Did ya see how the bass player, and then the mandolin player realized that Strings and Molly were driving up on their impromptu crescendo, then the bass player looked over and smiled and the mandolin player did the same seconds after? Then all of a sudden they knew they had magic, and they played like they felt it. Huge smiles from them. Super energy from Molly and Strings bringing it up
to the verse.
Goose bumps and a heart felt, deep lunged - Yeah!”
Molly is really good on the guit, underrated.
Finally the banjo player, the one who’s just incredibly, well, so underrated(not mentioned enough for his greatness on the instrument,)
enters the picture at the very end.
I have to say, when Molly smiles I bet half the country’s hearts melt.
Couldn't of said it better she melts me when she smiles to !
Do yourself a favor, and check some of Molly's vid .Her voice will match her unbelievable guitar playing and her smile and will melt you like a candle. I think these 2 are game changers and will make history. Maybe like the Beatles led the british invasion. It's about fkn time!
Molly was IBMA guitarist of the year in 2017, she is definitely recognized in the Bluegrass community. This was one of these performances that you grow old and wish you could of been at, this was off the charts great ... reminds me of the Grace Potter/Joe Satriani cover of Cortez the Killer
man that Billy Strings can really take charge. he cleverly kicked that band right in the ass on his last solo then she subtly comes in trading fours then some real magic started you have to be dead if you didn't smile. what talent on that stage. when Molly Tuttle and Billy Strings blend to make those airy chords it really hooks your heart. she is as cute as a puppy and her guitar playing is from another planet.
They are like "here we go again!"
I love how Molly is just always grooving to the music and always a big smile on her face.
such a sweet smile too
Everyone on stage looks like they are having the time of their lives. That’s why it’s so good!
Exactly the same way I feel about Molly! You are my Brother :)
She is a breath of fresh air!
That’s all she can do with no mic….
My soul will be complete when I see Billy and Molly together. I've only listened on RUclips it is my dream to see them together. I think they are the most beautiful thing ever to happen to music. I wish they would tour together and heal the world. Just 2 souls meant to be jamming. He's the best flat picker ever ! She is the best female flat picker ever !!! They are born only 2 or 3 moons apart. My soul will be complete
I promoted bluegrass festivals for 30 years and have never seen anything like this before
dang ! This just gets better and better each time I watch !!
Molly' smile makes my day 🙂
I wish I could like this twice.
per viewing. This one's bookmarked.
I'll like it for you instead
I wish I could hear it twice at once.
That beautiful smile of Mollys'....
Billy has that high lonesome sound down pat. God, I love that guy.
I'm 140 and I just discovered billy strings. Wow he's really bringing back bluegrass
Many happy returns.
I'm 140 also amazing how we didn't know about this 20 something year old sooner lol great comment but for real billy is the man
Now this is country music, never mind anything coming out of Nashville these days this is the real deal.
They all live in Nashville.
Man, Billy brings an energy that's been missing from Bluegrass for a while
I think both are great..but I feel Maggie is a better guitarist..plus she's easier to look at. Her solos are much more complex. Billy uses a lot of fills that bore me. She is an excellent banjoist also.
Lots of great bluegrass here in the midwest!!!
@@archtopp1
Both great performers, each able to step into the spotlight, then fall back into the group... Talent right there...
@@thaddeusk4230 I've see Doc Watson daytimes years ago, and while Billy is a decent guitarist, I'd rather listen to recordings of Doc and leave Billy to the younger crowd. He just doest light my fire!
@@archtopp1 just decent😂
I love seeing Billy and Molly playing off each other.
You can see how much fun they are all having. 2 min40sec The look on Mary Tuttle's face watching Billy riff.
I love how Billy always has a look of admiration while he watches the others play.
Check out the smile on Molly's face at about 1:30 when Billy leads into her solo, slightly changing the lyrics of "little Maggie's wine" to "little Molly's fine." Such a joy to watch all these fine folks !!
Love how each band member gets the opportunity to show their skills by taking the lead.
Exceptional artists each and every one of them.
These 2 are the real thing. Very few can do what they do
Never knew I liked bluegrass till I found Billy. Then Tommy, then Molly, then Tony, and who knows how many more I'll hear... bluegrass sounds pretty good lol
Keep listening Dubois! Its a truly great American art form and a very deep well to dive into!
Check out Greensky bluegrass
Same here
Rumpke Mountain Boys!!!
Wonderful to see young folks playing great bluegrass. Molly can play that flattop can't she?
Joe Squid I agree. And including the strength in his voice! The old folks I knew explained that music was supposed to travel even in a steep valley for various reasons, and developed technique that I tell you is just so much fun! Right up until I got really sick, I did seminars in the history and the basics, and am happy to say I brought traffic to a standstill way down from the church yard I was using, a mile high bunch a hymns I was going through to show the differences, and apparently people messed up downtown stopping and listening, but the old lady who talked so much about it would say you don’t think about whether it’s good or bad, it is whether people have heard and really listened, to as great a distance as possible. And to see this gifted young man using those techniques, to see it come round again. Word of warning: this is not gospel chest voice this is blue grass blues and calls to meeting. If you try to simply hold a note for that long without proper technique it can be harmful. That said well done both, but young man I am as proud of as if I had been able to teach you.
Hell yeah! 😎
She's the kind of player who knows all of the notes.
Alex Stewart I get ya, and she can probably find some new ones! I just feel sorry for that poor mandolin player keeping up!
Molly doesn't PLAY the guitar...she IS the guitar. Nobody out there like her
Molly sure is gorgeous. God I wish I could find a woman like that! She can sing and play!!
Pretty woman were made for loving,
And Maggie was made to be mine !!
Billy the Kid
F ing gnarly
Holy moly! I keep going back to listen to this one over and over. It’s about as good as it gets.
Thanks for watching, Phil!
I tell you, let's not overlook that banjo player; he knocks me out! The mandolin player and upright bass player are just as good! He is surrounded by excellent musicians! Molly is right there with Billy. It's difficult keeping up with him but she holds her own. What a great piece of music!!!
Molly was enjoying it as much as the audience
The tradition of bluegrass is in good hands with Billy and Molly.
I'm probably not the first person to comment on this but the love of watching the other perform is the best part of the song--then there is the picking. They just love what they are doing.
I can not get enough of those two together.
OH HELL NO! I FRICKEN LOVE THIS ONE! MOLLY ROCKS!
This fire never goes out. Little Molly Tuttle. God girl!
This goes beyond raw talent. This qualifies as genius. Billy Strings is a musical prodigy right up there with Mozart, Gershwin, and the Beatles.
after that amazing climatic crescendo I love how they all stopped for a split second right before Billy start singing again. That's What I Call super super super dope. I sorta wish Molly Tuttle was in their band
Would love to see her play with them full time. Her technical precision and genius match up so well with Billy's 'seat of the pants' style. Perfect balance, and she's another play who lifts everybody around her.
That's a hell of guy... Cheers this beer is for you Billy.. thank ya from Simpsonville Kentucky. Come over shoot a game of pool when you get a chance.
My leggs are jumpin around my mind, ✌️🐓🌻
Man, Molly T. Is an absolute gem and beauty. Thank God for great musicians keeping this alive. Much love to all.
Molly Tuttle - Breaking hearts and the fretboard speed limit.
Watching them pass into legend is joy
This young dude has some powerful lungs! One of the most catchy bluegrass songs I've ever heard
billy strings is the hero we needed but didnt deserve
Oh my god!!! Everything about this performance was beyond belief. I am on such a high right now from watching this that it will take a while to come back to earth. WOW!! Better than drugs.
Well said!
Molly snd billy playing guitar together is great
Billy Strings and Molly Tuttle keeping Blue Grass alive, amen. Great job.
F an A! That is the most smilin' I have done during a song in a long, long time! Thank you Rolling Stone for my introduction to Billy Strings and band. And Molly Tuttle.
I notice he's always watching and admiring everyone on stage he's playing with
This performance of Little Maggie has got to make Ralph look down from Bluegrass heaven and smile.
Watching Molly and Billy jam on this classic is almost pornographic as they make magical musical love on stage.
Alison Krauss brought me into Bluegass 20 years ago, Molly, AJ Lee and Billy Strings keep me here... that was outstanding.
Yay AJ! My fav singer, so pretty too!
As an old man it does my heart well to see such enthusiastic, extremely talented young performers like this. The future Legends of Music History.
Best Band in America
Molly held her on with Billy and thats saying alot. She is really freaking good!
Molly and Billy's band together on the same stage at the same time ...
INSANE !! :))
So happy to see such talent. Our music is not dead....just over shadowed by $$$$$. These folks give me hope...the Soul will survive and thrive. ❤️
If this doesn't make you love Bluegrass then I don't know what will. IT IS the real deal.
christ! molly and billy on stage together! its wonder no holes in time and space opened up and swallowed the earth
The REAL DEAL. THANK YOU!!! Willi B. in Canada.
This young man is super talented. I too only discovered him a few months ago and he is amazing.
I hope all you all out there riding those magnificent sound waves as a way of life...This kid is THE FUTURE, and I couldn't be more relieved.
Love this Kid...Rock On!!!
There both the present.
This is so good. Billy has so much talent it's ridiculous.
These 2 are jaw dropping when they jam together. How do they do it. The whole band is good but Molly and Billy are next level together.
just found Billy, and band, I,m 72 years old and I love how they are bringing bluegrass to the young people and to the young at heart like me. Rock on
He's a prog head's bluegrass player, for sure. Never would have gotten into bluegrass without Billy, Molly,.and Sierra.
They know they are marvellous! Love the US sounds - bluegrass. This sort of dedication means hours of practice - what a way to make a living! Beats all.
Forget Xanax. Just listen to this and your mood will be all fixed.
2:52 Molly's smile, a real musician's love for Billy's riffing..Great!
Wow. Alone at my computer, I broke into literal applause following the guitar duel. That was a wonderful!
The first time I saw Molly Tuttle I thought, WOW she's so pretty! Recently I saw her without the wig and she's still as pretty! I'm still crushing on her, WHAT A BABE!!
bluegrass musicians are sooooo underrated...they play so much better than anyone expects...its as if its magic.....
Man. This is the greatest thing I have ever heard. RIP music. It's been great. But i've found the one.
No matter how many times I watch this I’m still blown away by this group of musicians. Billy and the entire band never disappoint. Add Molly in and the smile on my face just grows!
If I watch this 100 more times (and I will), it won't be enough.
When the muscians have a smile on thier faces while playing you know its goos stuff. and this is good stuff.
Never heard "Little Maggie" done as well, ever! Stanley Brothers and Doc Watson are applauding from the grave.
Exactly sir! This is the best version I've ever heard! Billy is intricate when he does covers that's what sets himself apart from the rest.
Molly does a completely different version with the Goodbye Girls. I think she said she got it from Roscoe Holcomb.
I have been listening to bluegrass my whole life and tons of concerts. This blew me away, I have listened to it hundreds of times. Billy and Molly are meant to play together.
I agree. Ralph Stanley would be proud.
@@philbradshaw4592 I had a friend who always told me to listen to bluegrass and to learn it while i was in school learning how to fix aircraft, never listened but man let me tell you, i am playing it at least 3 hours a day now.
The new generation of bluegrass awesome I've been watching and listening my whole life love you guys your amazing the best I've heard in a long time
Imagine the sort of guitar skills you'd need to impress such an accomplished guitarist as Molly Tuttle. Well Billy just has 'em in spades. Simply amazing.
unbelievable, can't get enough of molly, and the billy strings band.
Two of my new Favs!!!! Molly and Billy with the band!! The engineers have to mix Molly up. She plays with a much lighter touch than Billy and she often gets lost when I hear her..she is also a special talent. The whole band is all-stars...check out the look Molly and Billy S. give Billy F. after his banjo solo. Nice to see Royal smile :) Best band out there right now in my opinion.
Now, if we could only see Billy Failings crack a smile now and then. lol
well said and right on
Fabulous musicianship all the way around. Some of the best bluegrass/newgrass musicians around. No one takes a back seat to Jared, Royal, Molly, Billy and Billy F . Outstanding, absolutely great.
I'm happy I'm alive during the years god decided to make heaven come to earth through this band. You won't find much better talent then this. Everyone is just stuck on "God Mode" and is trying to get the high score!
And can we take a moment to appreciate the skill Molly has? Omg she is amazing! That's what you need Billy, to find a woman that can challenge you musically!
Thank you for posting this magic! Found out abt Billy Strings last year, now i cannot go a day without hearing them. My favorite band at the moment!
Those two need to have kids. Imagine the inherited talents
Wow. THAT is the SHIT!!! Did you hear that improvised descending harmony line???
I've watched a lot of Mr. Strings' videos by now, and I must say this is one of the very best ones.
When Molly smiles 😂 she lights up the world 🥰
Every time I watch this it brings a smile to my face. Amazing musicians.
That mandolin player is a blazin picker.
Big facts @ 2:10 he was jammin the f out! I had to rewind it and listen to that part like 10 times. Just ridiculous talent!
Markadious Great playin’ by the mando dude! Looks effortless.
J Walker!

@@Nosferatu10 used to play with Missy Raines
There are so many great young musicians playing now, and Molly and Billy are two of the best. Bluegrass will never die as long as we have fantastic musicians like them playing it.
It even becomes almost Garcia-like at around the 3:50 mark. Joyful, resounding and spacey all in one. Great work, Billy, Molly and band!
cool stuff.
He covered alot of dead til Bill left, still plays some but not dead originals. Just the old folk songs.
..We got Molly coming with Oliver Hazard to The Spinning Jenny in Greer, SC March 6th, 2020 and then BMFS to Trondossa Music Fest (with two nights of WSP) Sunday May17th, 2020 in Charleston, SC! What a GREAT TIME to be ALIVE.
Amazing! I could listen to this all day long.
That couldn’t have been more tight if they’d spent weeks in a recording studio. Absolutely sublime.
That girl is incredible in every way. Billy is an amazing talent.
