We really hoped our volley of rounds in this video would produce one successful blast. We figured out that our safety mechanism was actually too good and inhibited detonation. So, we are building 2 different prototype fuses for the next trip to have a better buffet of explosive flavor. Theoretically anyways.

So true. I hate admitting failure. I really do, but it comes with the territory of experimentation. I had professor in undergrad constantly remind me that bad researchers never admit they are wrong.
add additional timing fuse as a backup, so if the primary fuse doesnt fire then the timing fuse will detonate the charge after the projectile drops...
I like that. Charges are standardized so hangtime can be max-min'ed. if your MAX hangtime is 5.5 seconds, do a 6 second delay manual fuse. If contact does fail, It'll dig in and pop. Worst case scenario you got an airburst close to the deck. That's not a bad thing.

@@jonaz15 I'm sure they are well outside a generous exclusion zone. Unless you are in Syria no reason not to be. They mentioned timed fusions in evolution 1 I think they just need to combine tactics.

If you watch the vids online of the indirect fire systems being used, you will see they use 3 in a prong config to insure det.
Great catch. Since the fuzes are smaller than the diameter of the "mortar" round, the risk of the round hitting on the edge of the round and not properly impacting the fuze is pretty high.

@@Coolnventions Those fuses were impact fuses and I made them to go off at a certain amount of minimum force. Ol Sean isn't strong enough to shake one active. Plus, we discovered our safety mechanisms were TOO good and basically made them worthless.

By the way, this is related to another video, but in the thermite grenades saga some people have commented that they'd like to see a ceramic flower pot being used to direct the combustion products and heat, and I just remembered that the normal metal can bodies can be coated with a really simple material that acts as a temporary refractory ruclips.net/video/FmEb1YZScxc/видео.html

Copy the panzerfaust fuse. In short, a block of cardboard is stopping the firing pin from hitting the primer. When it launches, a weighted sleeve falls backwards and a snap ring opens. On impact, the snap ring catches the weighted tube, and the entire assembly crushes the cardboard, allowing it to strike the primer.
When I was a dumbass kid , literally a teenager I did something similar with a nail, 12ga shell, bamboo tube and coat hanger tail, a little duct tape. I got to idea after seeing a improvised Vietnam toe popper in a combat manual

Great video gentlemen! Why not paint the projectiles flash orange in order facilitate easier tracking and visibility on the ground. This will make them easier to see on the ground in the event they fail to detonate.
We hoped the blue would help but.........yea. Wasn't a hit. We are going with wild colors next time.

Don't fret about the failure of these rounds. It made no difference to us your viewers. The rather dull 'thunk' as one of the rounds hit the ground was equally as entertaining, plus, it means you've made a Part 3!!

drop test the fuse attached to a concrte filled body , like the Navy did to fix the mk14 torpodeo contact fuse
I would paint them a very bright color. Just in case they dont go boom. Just use a drone to search instead of spending all day searching in cactus getting ticks. Then once you find it just walk out towards the drone. Could even guide them too the spot.
Are you guys sure its hitting the fuse. Not sure what method you are using but if I may suggest... it's kind of crude but it works...shotgun primer and a nail.

so what about aome thing simple... such as a contact detonator like a shotgun shell configured to set off the primer / powder charge on contact .. or would that not survive the launch ?

Gentlemen, might I suggest The Schenkl Percussion (impact) Fuze from the Civil War era? I do believe the trouble of projectile angle of impact would be negated.😊
You know, I had to look this one up. I know a lot about booms but not everything. I learn something new every day. I'll have to see if I can make a modern version of this and apply it.

how can you gaurantee your dud wont go off on you when you approach it? what kinda of fuse gaurantees your safety? how is it no one is giving you shit about approaching a potentially hot dud? if it was me id never here the end of it
Could you not use standard time delay fuses from grenades? Or is it 100% improvised?
We are working on a bore-riding delay fuse that is like a grenade fuse. It is simply bigger so that the "spoon" fits in the bore and doesn't bother the initial ejection flight path. Def a prototype.

Please use a drone to find the uxo/place charge next to it.
Also. My two cents. Try a base detonating fuse. It is easier than all-way acting, and more likely to yield success than point detonating.
That idea recently came into our planning. It's now in the drawing stage of design.
As w most artillery the problem isnt the explosives it's the detonator/ fuse.
why not put a small charge of black power in the nose of your round with a fuse that your propellant charge will ignite when you fire the round and you will not have to depend on your impact fuse.
