Are 3D Printed Weapons Legal To Make?

- Опубликовано: 1 июн 2024
- 3D printed weapons are nothing new. The moment 3D printers hit market you knew someone used them to make weapons. If you didn't, are you really using your 3D printer at its max potential? The real question is: when does it become a legal issue? Sean is here to discuss different topics on legality. Our viewers have been asking about why our air cannon is regulated and when does a 3D printed weapon become a legally controlled item.

Despite us going over this topic a ton, people will still being all Karen and complain that we are doing stuff illegally and getting sent to prison. Sooner or later, the RCMP is going to shut us down for good.
Lol rcmp damn that sure is scary
Their power oozes over everyone like maple syrup.
People need to some of the information you guys teach, the atf may be mad about it but someone needs to show others this stuff with the way things are going. Hell most of what you guys teach could be either life saving or make work go by much quicker.
@@OrdnanceLabcivilian wise it's legal militarily Wise it's a war crime to use explosives like grenades and landmines that have plastic bodies or bodies not made out of metal because they cannot be detected or they're very hard to detect when sent through an MRI or metal detector scans when a person sent to the hospital to save their lives I'm not saying it's bad I'm not saying it's good I'm just saying if this was sent into war understand the person using this could be sentenced to death because of a war crime but then again we use weapons that are also banned by the Geneva convention like cluster bombs napalm other stuff

Mad respect to you guys, the ATF probably hates how much you educate people but we sure enjoy it.
I doubt the ATF as an organization has bad intention i just believe its full of idiots on hard drugs/acid , i think theyre probably happy that ordnance lab educates people on doing stuff legally.
I kinda feel like he helps make alot less paperwork for the atf by keeping back yard morons think about the laws. I look at it as they are doing cool crap legally on the interwebs so others don't have get all the licensing (unless want to) but looked into it once and f that. I rather spend my time trying build designs for my ebay business.
Their videos are fairly mellow compared to some of the other videos on RUclips that give you a total step by step process to create high purity super energetics.
i'm sure the atf does not mind people knowing the legality of manufacturing stuff
"Show us how it's done." Ordnance Lab for: "Fuck around and find out."

Honesty, the cats did most of the dog watching for me. They were trying to figure out what it was and could they eat the puppy.
Instead of distribute files, collect them. Make a drop bin for designs to be tested. Liked that guy on here with the shotgun rounds. This way I can just sit back smoke weed and watch my designs be tested for me.
So iam not alone 😮😁🎉
I know how you feel. I got my SOT and I get people all the time telling m they are gonna report me for owning post sample machine guns. I just tell them go for it. And no surprise, nobody has done anything since I'm 100% legal
It doesn't matter, most people are just full of hot air and no ambition anymore.

It’s been way too long since we’ve seen the dollar store Jim Carey..😂
Good to see you back on here Sean.
The Cannon is not a DD because its an antique, its because it uses 2 part black powder ammunition
Never apologize for dogs in your videos! I love them!
Most 3d printed guns I have seen are not undetectable because people have realized that plastic is not a good pressure bearing material.
ITAR and similar regulations in other countries has exceptions for rimfire firearms and drones (and other tech) made made civilian use, so STL's for such things are okay. It is specifically applies to things designed for military use.
They may still decide to harass you if you have weird political views.
I was under the impression that only directly usable files like G-code are relevant to that, unless I am thinking of some other similar circumstance.
Regardless, someone just might "leak" the files to the Odd Sea. Oh, how unfortunate that'd be...
“weird”
@@Tunkkis Blueprints cannot just be plugged into a CNC machine either. The regulations cover intellectual property, even if it is your own. I go clear of this since my designs are meant for civilian use.

As far as printing shells and housings and parts, its a fine line, if they can argue you have intent and all the ingredients on hand and they don't like you... Could be a bad idea. If you just want a paper weight and don't have anything spicy on hand, still exercise caution. Constructive intent is a thing...
Is it a thing, or is it something gun store boomers claim is a thing?
I've never printed the parts out, but I've sent some cad designs to some boys in a certain small nation in Asia that seemed to work well after some collaboration and design tweaks.

Could you do some videos on drone delivered energetics? I’m sure there are a ton of laws around it, but it would make an awesome video!
Like a drone that could set off a shape charge above steel armor and penetrate it, without landing.
FAA governs the air. That's a whole other beurocracy @@brandonstews238
They did a video explaining why they are not able to do that right now. Basically it involves getting FAA waivers and that’s no easy task
I'd love to come out and blow stuff up and share ideas. However, I can see myself spending more time playing with the dogs. Living the dream man, living the dream for sure.
Love the dogs. So much like having small kids...lol.
As for the devices, even having a non-energetic device can get you in trouble if you have black powder or the items to make an explosive as they can get you for intent. There are so many ways you can get tripped up via the layers of state and federal regs. It really isn't worth playing around anymore as the stakes are too high.
That was an extremely specific jab at Army Reserves Civil Affairs Officers..seems like there are stories behind that one.

Has the RCMP ever actually followed up to the Canucks complaints? I imagine they’d just tell them there’s nothing they can do.
No apologies for having good boy doggos in your videos are necessary 😊
I still don't understand the air cannon since they are used every year to throw pumpkins in competition, are all those registered as a DD or some other type of agreement with ATF?
I'm pretty sure a pneumatic cannon only becomes a DD if you're launching something destructive from it.
He is using it to throw explosives.
That is the only reason the air cannon (or the can cannon) needed a DD stamp
All weapons are legal. The only thing illegal is infringing that right.
Unless of course you are precluded from having that right(98-100% of the population by current guidelines) used to be only if you excluded yourself by committing a felony now if you've ever felt depressed, ever known or are related to a felon or someone who's been suicidal or been prescribed medication for almost anything) but I do agree we shouldn't be blindly giving out the specs for the a-bomb but printing something is so much more work then actually going out and acquiring it through other means besides the IP aspect which he points out, and I totally agree with AI can make a model just from the pictures of this video so I don't see the point in trying to enforce any ban on small arms... it's the foundation of freedom "the great equalizer" as most presidents have said.
Indeed. All laws made to hinder weapons manufacturing must be broken. Anyone making such a law is a felon.
Legality and morality are two different things. Governments have no morals.
@@kevinroberts781 Then go and arrest them :)
Will you join me in demanding Walmart to carry sarin gas?
The new puppy is a cute little (for now) dog. Allie is a big baby as well. Much appreciated to see them in your video.
Use the 3D printer to make a model of a metal part, then make a mold around that. Remove the plastic part, and fill with molten steel. Repeat for each part and assemble.
As long as a licensed FFL manufactures it, and registers the gun with the ATF... should be legal. It's just a different type of manufacturing process.
You could also use a 3D laser image scanner to upload an already existing weapon part into 3D print software, to make modifications, or to do replicas of rare weapons.
ITAR can be a massive headache. I do not miss dealing with that.
We got a big backyard! That's what she said
Love your stuff!
Dude your completely insane I'd never listen to your advice but you are entertaining as hell really enjoy your videos lol
Alot of people here in the uk,think that the us have easy gun and explosive laws...but there much more strict than we think...which is good really.....I think your videos are great and learn alot from them.....

The dogs were cracking me up...🤣
3d printed firearms are legal even here in California, you just need to give it a State-registered serial on a metal plate, it's like a $20 filing fee plus $5 per serial.
The lack of STL files makes me sad but I get it, truly. ITAR sucks. Also, you have dogs and giving the ATF less reasons to visit is probably good for their health and well being, particularly a puppy.
Ive heard that 20mm grenades that have less than 3/4 ounce explosive are not destructive devices. I dont know how true that is how
I'm in the fb group where the guy printed that stuff for you. Been waiting on the video. :)
Could you ask him for files?
Or cross section view at least
Those dogs are hilarious. They should make more guest appearances.😂
I love this $hit 👍great work there man. Keep the videos coming!
It’s always funny watching people complain about things they don’t understand on here.
Intelligence always follows those people, but they’re always faster😂
Thanks for the info. I was thinking of making movie prop weapons (guns, grenades) that act realistically but don’t injure the actors.
I'm sure these videos might not appease the algorithm deities as well as blowing stuff up, I still appreciate them. Thanks 👍👍
I would love to see a video on if it's possible to turn 10mm Liberty Civil Defense ammo into exploding ammo by filling the hollow with a binary compound then capping it with some solder. They have a rated velocity of 2,400 fps, so should explode on impact without the need for a fuse or primer in the tip. Maybe add some zirconium powder for an incendiary effect.
Suggestion: the black powder claymore/ Kent tube. 19th century claymore mine. Cast iron pipe sealed at one end black powder and a load of musket balls facing open end. Well sealed with wax fabric at business end. Basically a sawed off cannon to provide cover for key paths of ingress for attacking force. Such as bridge or causeway, fortress gates , breeches etc.
Was proposed/ maybe used in Russo Japanese war with gun cotton and electric detonator. The tube blew apart but the shrapnel balls flew out the unsealed end of the pipe.
hello ordanance lap, according to my research if you make the copper shaped charge more thick and longer it will penetrate more armor.
The puppy is so cute i just wanna hug it.
I saw the video of you speaking fluent German and I was impressed 👍🏻
I hear one set of words, "Destructive Device". But this does not apply to Black Powder Cannons.
The only question that comes to mind is, The Pumpkin Cannon, we have a Pumpkin Patch Owner who uses a Pumpkin Cannon powered by air. fun to watch and its fixed position locks the trajectory in one area only, across a Pond also on his property. Does he have to worry about ATF killing his Dog???
Good explanation about Destructive Devices, but it is still a bit vague. I don't have a 3D printer and no aspirations of getting into energetic ordinances. But it's always fun to watch you guys do this. And no I don't own a Pumpkin Patch...lol

The most fun things to do is call lawyers incompetent
You can't drop bombs from drones but you can put them on a string and raise them up then release the string to test them still
Hey there! This video on 3D printing is awesome! It got me thinking about a wild idea: what if we could print objects layer by layer, but from the inside out? Imagine a 3D printer on steroids, with a spinning mold and robotic arms depositing materials. We could create super intricate mechanisms or even build entire structures floor by floor with spray concrete. This "layered construction" approach could be a game-changer for fabrication! #layeredprinting #futureofconstruction
STL files aren't covered under ITAR....there was a federal case about this a few years ago.
They don't care, they don't want YOU SPECIFICALLY to have the models.
I wouldn't distribute the files either.
All risk, no reward.
If you can't make the most simple of 3D models, you can't print the model either.
And if you could you'd probably want to modify it for your combination of plumbing supplies.
@dannymitchell6131 They aren't responsible for what someone does with a design. But I'm not arguing about them posting files, I understand their reasoning given how public they are and the nature of their work. Simply pointing out a fact, correcting what he stated in the video. Files are free to be distributed online and aren't under ITAR.
I think that one comes under "Show us how it's done!". I'm no expert, but I do know playing chicken with ITAR and all the other legislation is likely to end up with a large legal bill and some unpleasent moments. But if successful, it might, just might establish a legal precedent that allows other people to do *exactly* what it was that established that precedent. This is an area of business (or pleasure) where it really is better to seek permission than hope for forgiveness. Especially when there may be lawyers and law enforcement on the other side wanting to make sure you don't end up setting a precedent.
@@_Livefreeordie_dude that set precedent took the ride i believe too, he saw someone els poke the bear and get arrested for it but never convicted, not only that but like they just made it legal to punish firearms manufacturers you imagine someone printed a granade and blew off a hand then sued you for making the file public to print
Damn tried to find your booth at IWA, couldnt find yall!
I thought the distribution of files was protected by the 1st amendment as free speech. when you say its illegal to send grenade STL's, does that only apply to sending the file internationally? It seems odd to me that ITAR can sensor "speech". would love some clarification on that.
First letter in ITAR stands for international. While just about everyone at this point has such a clause, not everyone interprets it the same. Much like how the US and North Korea have a second amendment clause.
Distribution of those files is legal INSIDE the US. The moment you don't make a "good faith" effort to prevent international sharing they can come down on you like the mighty phallic boot of Zeus.
It’s a good thing I lost my 3d printer in a boating accident

This is my favorite channel. I love the dogs! So funny what he said about lawyers
Question, I'm actually about to graduate from law school in May. I'm wondering from your experience in dealing with lawyers in this space, what advice would you give to an aspiring attorney in this area? In other words, what should I avoid doing to give people a negative experience like yours? Unfortunately, I've heard your comments about incompetence and laziness echoed by many other professionals. Sad situation... Really just want more of your thoughts on attorneys in firearms and DDs.
How can i connect to you guys? I have some ideas to test (3d printing related) but i live in a country where this sort of stuff is tough to do.
Came for the explosives, stayed for the doggies!!!😁
So with the STL files if I happen to own a registered RPG-2 could I pay you for the STL files and sign a NDA that would prevent me from redistributing it?
The real questions that require answers!
I have a question. There are the 37mm havoc launchers like spikes tactical makes. You can relode those with black powder as long as you stay below a threshold for your propellant and the explosives. The 37mm launcher is known as a signaling device. If you shrunk down the moartar size would it be legal to launch them without registering it.
Any anti personnel ammunition in a flare launcher reclassifies it as a DD even in 37mm
Even if it fires a non lethal bean bag round the launcher is still a DD.
That's because the bean bag rounds are manufactured to be anti person. So they are defined as DD. but if a device is not specifically manufactured as anti person. And by the definition of a DD being, (“destructive device” means- Any explosive, incendiary, or poison gas bomb, grenade, rocket having a propellant charge of more than four ounces, missile having an explosive or incendiary charge of more than one-quarter ounce, mine, or devices similar.) As long as there is no projectiles and you stay below these parameters it shouldn't be considered a DD. Or am I just not understanding the definition properly?
@@sethmcavoy7672 No
@@Willy_Tepes then run anti personal ammo in your gay 37mm, I don't care one way or the other.
With the explosive cannon balls in the works if you had a Krupp 50mm mountain gun, would you try explosive rounds for that?
I’ve just a got good one for you guys to try out. Would using flash powder or black powder set of ANFO used as a booster charge just using cannon fuse instead of using a blasting cap and if you used it in some sort of a pressure vessel like a pipe bomb so the black powder could build up enough pressure to cause the ANFO to go off and detonate. I seen it in a French movie or was it a Belgian movie, I can’t remember but it’s a cool experiment to try out.
bro, i cant, with the massive rpg rocket round in one hand and the other petting your dog.
Did the camera exposure get left at -1 stop on accident?
So if the hell cannon isn’t a DD, (it’s technically not an antique or reproduction) then a panzerfaust wouldn’t be considered a DD either because it’s muzzle loading blackpowder with no fixed primer
Love the content
Just wondering. What about 3d printed granates for Airsoft? I've seen some with some kind of explosion sound. Looks like a destructive device, but is it?
Only thing that I wanna know if it’s legal or not is if you can make a tank fire either bbs airsoft or nerf
As long as you destroy the destructive device the same day you don’t have to register it. And detonate it in a safe area
6:19 - I truly thought Webbly was about to down suppressed fire on that bench.
