@@EpicLightMedia it is hard to believe that you started RUclips this year. By the end of this year, you will definitely have a million subs or close. Great content.
@@EpicLightMedia I cannot believe you completely missed the simplest lighting setup of all. Instead of having the subject facing the sun and then blocking it with the scrim. What you should have done was have the subject with her back to the sun now you instantly have her face in open shade. At the same time you now have her hairline highlighted from the sun. Now the only thing you need to add is a fill light with the reflector in front of her. it doesn't get any easier than that and the only thing you needed to carry with you is one collapsible reflector.
@@EpicLightMedia Not sure where to submit suggestions, but I have been wondering after you light these interviews, how do you edit in post? Like how do I get that High-Key look. I'm using Davinci Resolve and everything always looks moody. (Even after I copycat your setups step by step ), In other words, Post-Production tutorial please.

great idea people shoot with limited resources also, yes thanks for making confidence in us to go for shooting with what ever is available. I really like it.

I don't know what happened! I unsubscribed and it did a thumbs up and told my friends to subscribe...Whaaaaaaa. Magic! keep up the channel, enjoying the content.
It's an EasyRig to hold up his camera for longer durations without getting tired. You don't need one of these for this shot. It just makes it easier on your body lol.
Hordiy Malkovych for now... between watching the indoor lighting video and clicking to this one, they already gained ~350 subs, and they weren’t all me...
I liked "B". Because that orange light on the right side of her face made me think of a sunset. Even though it was on the opposite side of the key light, it still gave the overall shot a warm feel to it.

"If you know what you're doing you can make any camera look good, if you don't know what you're doing you can make any camera look bad." GREATNESS. I'm definitely stealing this quote! 🤣
Tip: When tightening the grip head make sure the tightening handle is on the right. That way any weight on the end of the arm will not loosen the grip head.
Yeah that's the point of setup B. It looks excellent, and the diffusion and bounce technique would cost about $30 at most, assuming you have a camera. A lot of RUclips tutorials would also leave it at that, but this one is nice enough to show you how to do something really professional looking with setup C. Understanding the purpose of having tons of equipment and crew is one of the most crucial things for indie filmmaking. If you know what you DON'T have, you can look for solutions.
There are lighting solutions that do good enough for less than the apertures. I got the Godox VL150 (roughly comparable to aperture 120d) for 430€ and for my indoor shoots it's doing more than great. If you want to go even cheaper you can grab the Godox SL60W, i got that for 99€ and honestly the only draw back is the fan noise, so keep it away from the microphones. Theres also Neewer LED Panels that do great for another 20-30€ cheaper. If you have good lighting almost any camera will be good enough. Like, iPhone for example mostly suffers when you have to expose for the shadows, if you set proper light it dos amazing. Chances are your Canon D5Mk2 can Film good enough if you set everything up properly, you don't nececerly need a camera that shoots 4,6k RAW, in many cases that might just clutter your workflow unless you spend another premium on a computer. Plenty of people make a living with cameras like the Sony A7M3. Chances are that the camera you have is already good enough. What you need is sound and light that helps your camera to show it's good enough. And that can probably be don anywhere between 150€ - 1000€ depending on what look you are going for.
Minus the slider (which is not the impressive part), this isn't very expensive (scrim-jim $400, C-stands x 4 $550, just 2 Aputure 300ds $2200, and then bounce boards and reflectors $60 = $3210) If you're not spending even a couple thousand on equipment, then you're probably not going to film for very large clients. The point -- this dang setup can be achieved with your >$1000 DSLR setup and look almost as good because you controlled the light.
this high-key the best channel with the straight to the point tutorials i found it 2 day ago and i feel like i learn so much since is not just him talking and show video he already recorded with nothing just a before and after. every filmmaker need this page
What about positioning her behind the sun for a back light and bouncing light from the sun? That setup you have seems crazy when you’re starting out with not many hands
Love your stuff. Witty, knowledgeable, and just a great all around teacher. Keep it up, you are by far the best all around filming tutorial guy I've seen here.
Damn, I love it when you say "do not subscribe" !! For some reason, I just want to do the opposite! And btw, your videos are simply gold! The best value I've ever got. Please keep making them, hopefully, I'll take my video production work to your quality someday!
Very refreshing to see an actual talented cinematographer making videos like these. I was getting burnt out on “HOW TO MAKE YOUR FOOTAGE LOOK FIRE WITH THESE COLOR GRADING TIPS” videos.
Honestly the RODE VideoMic (like the super cheap 40-50€ one) dos good enough for me. Sounds good straight out of camera, i know the more expensive microphones offer more options to work on the sound in post, but as of now i work on my own and it's just nice that i get good sound without having to be a expert in yet another field. You can boom it, you can have it on top of the camera. It's a good start. Alternatively you could use a Lav, some of the dirty cheap ones are A-Ok in sound quality, and instead of going for a expensive audio recorder you can kick of by recording straight into your phone with it and align the sound while editing. (you can just automatically match cam sound and lav sound, it's not that big of a deal)
Hey man, after plus 5 years og learning all i know to create my videomarketing agency from YT, i was missing video creation deep dives. And you are hitting the spot man! Amazing content, highly valuable and great format. Thank you for the amazing work, promise me you will keep it up!
Heh. I'm not sure how really honest he was about liking A. but.. I do actually like A the most.. if the highlighting on her face was toned down just a TINY bit. 1/2 a stop or so? so maybe a more transparent diffuser would have been my ideal.
That's close to what I think. C is closest to what you'd do indoors, but I like more shadow to bring out the form of the face and add drama so to me it's a little bland. The big splash of warm light on the hair in B gives you a nice dramatic touch with minimal effort. And with just two reflectors? As a one-man band I'm liking it.
In my opinion is B is most great one. I really love your videos! Please keep them up and tell us more great tips like this! U kind of really funny xD Nice channel!
Yea I disagree at 5:48... Even if a "professional" laughs at you for your 25 "wrong" things... they forgot that you did ONE thing right that pays your bills and that's the RESULT... which is a beautiful perfectly well exposed and lit scene that totally works. Not everyone will have $5,000 worth of equipment. and 7 $2,000 Amaran 600watt lights at disposal with $400 diffuser setups. Thank you for showing it's not THE equipment that makes you, it's HOW you use the equipment you have.

I think it's important to point out that maybe a better technique altogether would be to shoot AGAINST the sun. That way your talent doesn't have to squeeze their eyes and you can expose for the shadows, while the sun gives everything a nice edge. You will notice that they did exactly this in tremors, maybe even nothing more. Watch out for it in films and commercials. Almost always they will shoot against the sun.
