Technical Details:
This was sourced from video (not film) and is post-production, meaning a copy of a copy, with graphics and edits. So many of the anomalies common with video could only be reduced, not eliminated. Some odd fringing in the lights, ghosting, ringing are the telltale signs. There were also some camera angles that had more of these issues, and other cameras that had none.
I reduced the artifacts as much as possible, especially in the darker areas, and this mostly behaved well. The results felt a bit flat to my eyes so I then added some texture/grain and sharpness. I enhanced/corrected the color as much as reasonable as well as the contrast. Finally interpolated the frame rate to 50fps for smooth motion, which worked very well here imo.
The sound was quite astounding for TV productions such as these, which I remastered, EQed, cleaned-up, some compression and stereo separation. I tried to give it a nice live feel without going overboard. To my (admittedly biased) ears, it's one of the best of the tour.
The results work well together, and with the many between-song moments, give a real feel of being there. It's quite a departure from the official 1987 DVD in such a huge stadium.

Wow, thanks for posting this, no idea where you got it but thanks. It’s just so clear it could’ve been filmed yesterday
It is certain great quality, 1080p50HD upgraded i believe. :-)
...and the sound ~ unbelievably good 🤭 Like being there in person🙌
To add to everything this turned up as loud as it goes makes my 09 fusion the coolest hot rod in town thank you
Phil Collins singing Afterglow is simply the most beautiful prog moment in my life.
So underrated like singer…voice like Few
Yes indeed.
This blows away the Afterglows on all the official videos. You seen the 1978 8mm footage from Columbus Ohio? Mellotron city! Awesome.
Afterglow ain't prog. You'd struggle to drop it into suppers ready.
@@raycarter4030 A Flower ?
I don't want to work, I just want to hear Phil bang his drum all day
All of Phil's vocals for Mama live was outrageously amazing, but this... This was a whole other level. He's absolutely and most definitely awesome
💯%
Those vocals and range on mama were incredibly massive! Blew me away completely.
Fantastic live singer and band.
Haha I agreeeee✌️😎✌️
Phil's vocals in 1986-7 were a pleasant surprise for me. He was right on it.
Try to listen his Mama rendition in Philadelphia 1983, Rosemont 1983, Inglewood 1984 (LA)
In my opinion this is one of their most beautiful performance I've ever heard...I am still shocked...and crying...Genesis, thank you again to exist, you are a blessing from heaven!
Phil and Chester nailing that Zappa fill together @38:56 at the end of Afterglow is always a great moment. It’s also on Seconds Out. When Phil was looking for a drummer who could play well with two drummers he heard Chester play that fill with Ralph Humphries on Zappa’s “More Trouble Every Day” on the Roxy & Elsewhere LP. They put it in the show as tribute.
They did that live on every concert and tour. Don't know the original but i'm so used to it and I love it.
Thanks for the interesting data about it
Best drumming duo ever!
Chester gave an interview some time ago about how he joined Genesis - no audition, Phil just liked his playing and invited him to join - but on the condition that they included "that" fill at every live performance. :-) Talk about a match made in heaven!
It's kind of weird to see the band without their fantastic vari-lites sistem...but is really fantastic how to be the power the music itself to ricreate the magic...thanks forever to Claud Nobs....
The varilite is actually there, here, too.
In abacab, when the lights turn from blue to red (7:48) that is the varilite “sistem.” Shame that 40 people fell for your misinformation.
The famous "in the cage" cue is still there in modified form, as is the Afterglow purple, and others. Given the size of the stage and the hight of the set they gave it their best shot. Alan Owen gets the lighting credit on that so that's why much of it looks familiar - isn't he the "Dr Owen" who was on the board for the Invisible Touch tour which they were in the middle of?
Man, Phil Collins was kicking ass here!
I'm careful of saying best this best that....But when it comes to this band. Best live band springs to mind. They earned it!
Chester's snare drummmmsometimes ehhj aokay
THIS IS PERFECT MUSIC HISTORY !! A PERFECT BAND THAT HAD A SINGER THAT HAD THE X FACTOR SO BIG HE MADE THE BAND MORE THAN WAS THOUGHT POSSIBLE !!!
The best band ever, bravo 👏👏😎🇨🇱❗️
Started getting really great when they got up to In The Cage. I love 70's Genesis. Mike Rutherford doesn't get the credit he deserves from the music industry. This was great...Afterglow always pulls at the heartstrings. Another Great song by Tony Banks.
And there small creeps day by Mike what an ambiance👍😏👍
These are the type of things they should have released on the cd/dvd box sets from the mid 2000's, so thanks for doing it 😀 👍
Grandissimi i Genisis non si stanca a sentirli da oltre cinquant'anni speriamo di vederli al più presto sul palcoscenico.....
Absolut scandal the old tracks were left off.
Absolutely.
@@davebellamy4867 the only songs played on this tour from the PG era are "In The Cage" (in this recording) and part 2 of "Supper's Ready" (replaced with Afterglow) the only 70's song played by Genesis here not included (mainly bc it wasn't performed here) is "Your Own Special Way)
Everything that you said in this comment 2 years ago is all 💯 truth. When the Genesis Box set of Live Albums was released with Cds and DVDs, having only Audio Music in the DVD section was such a waste of space. More film footage such as this, should have been included. Sad to say, there was never a live Album that was made, to promote the Invisible Touch Tour. However, everything that you said in your comment is the truth.
Brilliant vocals. He really had it all!
Such a great performance. Phil, Tony and Mike are masters of their craft - (as well as Peter, Steve and Anthony.) Daryll and Chester are also brilliant. Thanks for posting this - (Genesis fan for the last 50 odd years!)
Simply stunning.. Genesis at their peak
Finally, I've found the best footage of the In The Cage medley from '87 I've ever seen.
Yes it was surprisingly good, even if Collins didn't hit ALL the notes.
Of all the recordings of the Invisible Touch Tour I've heard, this is by far the best one. Absolutely smoking hot.
agreed!
"In That Quiet Earth" with beautiful, THUNDEROUS drumming! Chester and Phil.............the ultimate drumming duo!
When the Wembley show came out in 88 on vhs, I was disappointed that the In The Cage medley was absent but to see it here is stellar!
In the cage medley 87 Germany also here mate. ruclips.net/video/Ssk2ALhfhhQ/видео.html
I read somewhere that In The Cage was not recorded on video as the engineers was changing the tapes over at the time? Sacrilege though.
That "getting" at 2:31 is the craziest thing in this whole performance imo.. Just listen to that. It's goosebumps, it's amazing.
This is stunning, just stunning.
So great. Thanks for sharing. I so badly wish Phil could still drum and could still sing with this level of strength and passion.
35 years later...few drummers can
Of course we'd all like like. But think about different areas: the level of tennis matches that McEnroe sometimes plays with Borg these days, for charity. The lap times Jackie Stewart or Jacky Ickx achieve as they appear on racing tracks during revival events. Or vocal quality Placido Domingo can muster now compared to his 70s opera recordings. Time doesn't stand still and waits for no one....
The thing I really liked about this period is that you quite clearly get the feeling Phil literally let his hair down on those last two Genesis tours. Here his long glorious mane, compared to the more slick appearance when he did the But Seriously videos and tour, and then in 92 on the WCD tour he’s dressing more casual.
See it's strange but at Wembley 87 I didn't expect Phil's vocals to be so good. I think that night, he was the best since 1978. Long hair = good voice, stubble essential, beard the icing on the cake.🤣
1986-7 was Genesis Phil, rather than Phil Phil, definitely. Glad I saw it.
The live version of "Abacab" is so cool... man, when Phil sets in on the drums!
My favorite band of all time! Seen them young seen them old seen cover bands of them. All of it simply the best. The creativity of these gents and former band mates is second to none.
Me too, Floyd, Yes and Genesis were part of my musical life I saw the band from the mid-70’s onwards (and The Musical Box are just brilliant.)
I love Tony's musicality! And Mike's tempo. I miss Phil on drums. I love their energy!
This is a really special recording - especially for the smaller venue "feel" for the era. The Steve Hackett era is my favorite run of albums and I really liked "In the Cage," Rutherford really killing it on the bass. Fantastic upload - thanks!
One of the few concessions on the Invisible Touch Tour where they had to bring a minimal Vari-Lite rig and dig the PARs out of retirement one more time.
Genesis did a gig in 1987 and didn't perform anything off Invisible Touch!? Amazing!
I'm sure they just wanted to switch it up for a night. A small intimate venue and some older songs.
This is not the full show. It is edited and there were tracks from Invisible Touch played. I do believe the song Invisible Touch is floating around You Tube somewhere.
Here's video of Throwing It All Away from the same night: ruclips.net/video/lVINCAqzyUs/видео.html
And Invisible Touch from the same night: ruclips.net/video/7wJ_beeksIE/видео.html
If it was a full length show, they most likely played Domino, The Brazilian, Land of Confusion, and Tonight Tonight Tonight as well.
I guess they knew that alot of their audience still went back to 75 Genesis - hence including IN THE CAGE which took up quite a bit of time.
Great to see a fit and healthy Phil Collins in superb vocal form, top of his game here really..band on top form too, intimate staging and the sounds amazing...much gratitude for posting...really enjoyed it....makes up for the truly appalling recent final ever shows, absolutely heartbreaking to watch Phil now compared to stuff like this....
Yes, indeed, I concur. And then there's 35 years between this and now. Health issues impact some people more severely.
Funny, just 3 days before, on May 13, I was seeing them in Madrid before 60,000 people at At. Madrid stadium (now demolished).
I will never forget the atmosphere just before the concert sitting on the football ground meeting so many fans like us.
We were just 20 so were really excited to see them though we were more fond of Gabriel era, more than 10 years ago.
I put Afterglow through the mixer and hifi and pretended I was at Wembley Stadium 1 July 1987 again. I loved it that Banks used voices again in the quiet sections.
New stuff appearing after all this years. It's amazing and a great addition to the "official" released live footage from this tour.
When it comes to drumming duos, The Dead gets most of the attention but Phil and Chester are my favorite! Chester can sound like Phil, and Phil can sound like Chester, plus they have their own unique approach to the drum kit!!
That’s F…mind boggling and is clearly lost in the journals of music history. Chester Thompson is a beast , and right up there with ALL of the great drummers in history!!! 👍🏾👍🏾
2022. Genesis just played in Paris 2 days ago in the Last Domino tour. Watching this and that back to back is amazing! Age hasn't been kind to Phil, but he continues to amaze!
Les derniers solos aux synth, une lesson pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas. Une telle puissance, merci genesis, pour tant d'inspiration. C'est énorme.
2021 Genesis and Phil still THE BEST in this world. Remarkable, unique, the Perfection. From Paris, thank you so much for this video.
Love to hear Phil trying his hand at French. Mike's solo on ABACAB is stellar! Glad to have found this recording. Thanks.
Friendly uncle Fish, in his own right a great rock personality, once said, many years ago: don't underestimate Abacab. Performed live it was really fabulous. And he was perfectly right.
The soundboard/audience recording from Montréal in 1980 is great if you want to hear Phil trying to speak French.
@@andrerenault Merci. But my abilities in French would be lost, even with Phil.
Chester got better and better as the tours past.
I don't think Chester got any better he's a fusion monster, nor Phil for that matter....but wow did they get better at playing together. Breathtaking.
This is Genesis’ equivalent of The Police’s Spectrum show in 1983 with a small club feel to it - I love it
Jaw dropping....wow!!!!
Wow they are really at the top of their game performance wise. Amazing vocals by Phil. Thanks!
Seeing the crowd go wild during Afterglow was a beautiful thing to see.
Also 25:59 That bass from Mike during the solo! Holy shit...
Brutal, afinado, perfecto, sincronizado al máximo. Es pura potencia. Phil, en su máximo esplendor. La mejor banda de la historia de la música.
Watching a lot of earlier Genesis concerts lately in honour of what is likely their final tour. Epic band spanning decades of fandom.
Sooooooooooooo tight. This is why this line up is the best.
Best "In That Quiet Earth" ever... Phil and Chester are so solid here... thanks for this great work!!!
34:42 Note absence of electronic drum. I like it better with the snare anyway.
Up there in my favourite 5 Genesis tracks.
@@davebellamy4867 No, it's there. Just lower in the mix than Chester's acoustic snare.
Puts me in tears, never to be seen again, they poured themselves out for every show. True professionals.
Just watched this for the first time. Thanks so much for the upload. By this point, the three-piece plus Chester and Daryl were really rocking it tight. Phil's voice was still close to its peak, which in my opinion came the album before this. Great video quality here. It's a live gig so I won't pass judgement on the audio mix. Overall top notch!
Inmutable Tony Banks ,un maestro.
AMAZING INCREDIBLE !!
FANTASTICO Impecable recital Brillante por siempre !!!!
Spectacular Musicians in the best years of their life . Thanks ‘Genesis Museum’😍
Abacab with Phil and Chester on drums is just amazing. Thank you for posting!
Wonderful quality. Thanks for sharing. ❤️
Damn this is great. Came here to see how "Abacab" compares with Wembley two months later. Favorably, though a bit less distinct in the drums, although the camera work is better. I could watch Phil play all day..
Phil is just so damn good! ✌️
This has to be one of the best sounding recordings from this tour. I'm shocked I've never actually listened to this completely given how amazing it sounds.
agreed
Sempre bellissimo dascoltare
Amazing show and amazing musicians. Loved this "on stage" feel of the filming and the passion and excellence of all the performances. Well done, Genesis!
No soy fan de Genesis en los 80’s, pero este recital es arrollador e impecable
You guys at G music do obviously great work and we all appreciate it.
THANK YOU! A much-appreciated addition to "Live at Wembley Stadium" which left out the In The Cage Medley.
Genesis sempre será a minha eterna banda de Rock Progressivo!
The best progressive band in the world.
Sublime.
Love the guitar solo on Abacab
The atmosphere of the concert reminds me of when Mike and the Mechanics played at Ohne Filter back in '99. It's like they're playing at a club.
I don’t know what video production company the Montreux festival used in the 80’s and 90’s, but every clip I’ve ever seen from that concert series is always first class. And the audio mix is amazing too.
We worked hard on remastering the audio and video, but we would agree that the source material was amazing for broadcast television
Might be dutchies
@@GenesisMuseum but true it could be... UUUUUUUU Thankyou👍😉👍
AFAIK, the Montreux festival was filmed by the BBC
Didn't they actually start their own video production company? Which also does the DVD's and blu-rays of the Festival? On a side note, I really am curious what the backstory is of this concert. This looks like a smaller venue than the one I know from the Jazz Festival dvd's. Kinda surprised they were able to set up all the stage gear and even got some varilites in.
Best version ☆
After 30 years of listening to Genesis I can't believe I've never seen this before! What a surprising set list- nothing from Invisible Touch? Thank you.
we specialize in what you haven't seen before
Actually, "Throwing It All Away" and "Invisible Touch" from this Montreux gig were broadcast on Swedish Television:

The transition that this band went through, from where they began in the late 1960’s, into the early 1970’s, through the mid and late 70’s, into the 1980’s, always changing, right from the off, improving, progressing, remaining relevant right throughout. Sheer Magnificence!
We got Hannover 1987, now this!😊😊
This is gold. Thank you for finding and posting this!!
Simply fabulous
More Genesis concerts are always nice to see. Makes me wonder and dream about what lies undiscovered yet
Muchas gracias! Gran trabajo!
Its a shame that this great band quit cause of the health of some members im gld that i had the time watch them several times thanks for the great music

Brilliant upload, and such great quality for a change. Some real gems keep turning up.
Amazing artifact! Thanks so much for posting!
Absolutely marvelous, feeling like christmas!! Thank you very much!
Christmas and Easter at one Day!
I heard it in the Summer of 87 on the Radio ( RIAS BERLIN " Live vor dem Reichstag" ) .
