The name owes its roots to the Battle of Balaklava. In 1854, a valley in the Crimea, saw five hundred men from her Majesty's, 93rd Highland Sutherlander Regiment of Foot, facing down 3,000 Russian Cavalrymen. Colin Campbell, 1st Baron Clyde said to his men the following, "There is no retreat from here men, you must die where you stand." His adjutant, John Scott replied, " Aye, Sir Colin, if needs be, we'll do that." As the Russians closed with the British, Times correspondent William Russell watched, writing that he could see nothing between the charging Russians and the British regiment's base of operations at Balaklava, only the "thin red streak tipped with a line of steel" of the 93rd. The intervening years have seen his remarks popularized into the iteration we know today, "The Thin Red Line."

This film is perhaps the most purely beautiful work of cinematic poetry in existence.

I thought Sir Harry Paget Flashman VC, KCB, KCIE
first used the expression "....a thin Red Line"

Terence Malik Is the Leonard de Vinci of the Cinema .
The music is the most beautifull OST i have ever heared .
This is the kind of music when soldiers are advancing without meeting any opposition.
