It was such a relief to find this video, because today when drilling drainage holes in plant pots, with my cordless Black & Decker, the drill bits kept going loose and falling out. Yes, I found a way round the problem was to stop drilling every few seconds to retighten the loosened chuck screw. But this didn't always work. I have been trying to find out today, to no avail until now, if it was ME who was doing something wrong to cause the loosening drill bits problem. I LOVE my MINI BLACK & DECKER HANDHELD CORDLESS VACUUM though. I've had it a few years now and it's a GREAT powerful vacuum upper of bits.
Had the b&d drill for 5 years served me well but always got frustrated with the chuck and struggled to drill through proper brick . Upgraded to a makita and its life changing 🙌
Thank you so much for this video upload. Looking to put up some curtain poles but never used a power drill before. I was looking at the Bosch on Amazon UK but couldn't decide between the Bosch Easy Impact @£71.51 and the PSB 1800 @£77.90. After seeing it's demonstration here, I'm sold! Thank you.❤
Been shopping around for a decent drill and have already settled on this bosch model and glad to see in this video it is performing well. £77.90 on amazon right now and £20.99 for a 70 piece drill and screwdriver bit set
I have a Bosch PSB 18 Li-2, which is probably 7 years old & the chuck has gone the way of the Black & Decker model in your video. The trouble is that it costs around £50 to get a replacement Bosch chuck for it, making it more cost effective to buy a new Bosch drill
Don't use drill that much for work, just a bit of trellis fitting, fence repairs and bolting fence spurs. Got a great deal on a Bosch Pro GSB-18V-55, GDX-18V-200, With a quick charger and two 5Ah batteries. Not top of the line but does everything I need! Wouldn't waste my money on anything BlacknDecker!
I have a small garden and a shed for storing and cutting wood. I think Bosch are known for being designed to work well, the green DIY range is what I use as it’s affordable and does a decent job. Yes the professional stuff is better but it comes at a hefty price. Dewalt is also popular and the professional stuff is expensive too. Unless you’re in a trade it’s not necessary to buy professional stuff but a solid green Bosch will get the job done. The best thing Bkack & Decker make is the workmate, it’s a great product and works well. Some power tool combination sets are very expensive and do get stolen which is something nobody wants. Use good quality drill bits and blades and you can’t really go wrong. Bosch & the job is done!
Im in the market for a cordless drill atm, with the contenders being Bosch, Dewalt or possibly Makita (if i can find one) The Bosch is the cheapest of the 3 and it performed well here, ill watch some more videos before i decide, but im being more and more convinced to go bosch every video i watch.
@@MachineryNation thanks for the advice, that's too expensive for me ATM and if I was going premium I'd go Makita. One of the other reasons Bosch is what I'm looking at is you can get a even better model brushed Bosch drill for £64 in Wickes and there is an offer on where you get a free battery and charger, plus I plan to own two combi drills eventually anyway 👍
The Black & Decker had the power to screw in the long screws. The Bosh had to be switched. When he switched the Black & Decker the clutch was set to limit the power instead of leaving it on Drill mode as it was when screwing them in. That showed the Black & Decker to be better!
James great video. I think you should have put them in Hammer mode for the longer screws. Just asking. Because a lot of impacts have Hammer mode on them. Have a good one tell Susan I said hi. 👍
Don't use hammer mode on drills for fasteners: it will greatly increase the likelihood you strip out the head of the screw, and it also wastes energy that could otherwise be driving the screw in faster. Hammer mode in drills is completely different from the impact mechanism in impact drivers. Hammer drills move the bit towards and away from the material about 30k to 40k times per minute, in essence trying to mimic a jackhammer. The chuck assembly rides a series of small metal ramps that move it a mm or so forward and backward. It should be used for masonry applications only, with a carbide tipped masonry bit. Impact drivers, by contrast, do not use a direct drive (ie the electric motor is not connected to the bit via gears), but rather a hammer and anvil, with a spring, to transfer the electric motors energy, via rotational impacts of the hammer mass against the anvil, to turn to the fastener in the same way an impact wrench does lugnuts. They can be extremely fast due to no reduction gearing, but in high torque applications, a drill will often be faster. Impact drivers are not good for masonry drilling, although many masonry drill bit manufacturers will say their bits can be used in an impact driver at certain speeds, it's a poor attempt at a hammer drill, which is already a poor attempt at a rotary hammer.
Nice video mate! I was expecting the Bosch to win, although at the price point, I wasn't sure by how much (B&D tools are so bad these days I figured it was pretty well guaranteed). What I was not expecting was how much better the entry-level Bosch tool *sounded*, compared to the B&D. The B&D sounded like it was struggling with the simplest tasks, whereas the Bosch sounded like a much higher grade of tool. The motor, the hammer action, the slowing under load, etc. The interchangeable batteries are a nice benefit too! If I were getting into a new platform of tools today, Bosch's high end stuff would definitely be on my list (although it'd be hard not to go with Hilti).
James have you tried Flex Brand tools yet? I'm slowly moving to Flex. I've been a Milwaukee fan for years. I'm switching brands because I'm getting tired of fixing the trigger on all of M18 volt drill and drivers.
Flex is super impressive, it's unfortunate they aren't selling their stuff in the UK. Hopefully they expand their lineup to include many more tools, and offer that lineup worldwide. As an aside, which M18 stuff have you had trigger issues with? Most of my tools at work are M18 and I've not had any trigger failures (I've only had to warranty one 2600 series M18 hammer drill in the last few years and it was a chip failure).
Excellent video James i use to have a 18v Bosch really good till i had it nicked, good saying that jesus wept mind so would you with nails in your hands 😂
Aye, I remember their hover mowers were insanely powerful and never seemed to break back in the day. I'm told that what happened is B&D started allowing other firms to produce tools under the B&D name and these were of infirior quality to their own products, I'm not sure if this is 100% true but it was told to me when I was eyeing up a portable air conditioner by Black and Decker and got warned away, though based on the reviews I later went and looked at, it would seem there was some truth in what thie person told me.
Stanley, Black and Decker mega Corp has gutted many old school US brands, including Stanley, Craftsman, Porter Cable, and Black and Decker, dumping all their money and effort into Dewalt, which still falls short in many categories of its main competitors: Milwaukee, Makita, and Flex. It's really annoying, and they prey on homeowners/DIY guys who aren't in the tool world enough to know that these classic US brands have been turned into cheap Chinese junk.
Don't waste your money on brushed motors. They're old news like really really old news. Brushless are way more powerful and use less power. Also don't waste your money on junk like B&D. Just wait longer and get a Makita, Bosch and co.
Argos UK as a real deal on a Cordless variable speed drill with all extras + a 100 piece bit set for metal and wood, stone, and concrete,And two rechargeable batteries the drill as light for hard to see places, A lot cheaper than the the high end drill costing 3 times as much, At £68 pounds a Bargain The name is Giuld!!! I don't know if that's such a great deal, as you get what you pay for. Also with the Bosch, that battery system can be used with many different tools e.g. Impact, Jigsaw, MultiTool and so on. If you're a keen DIYer or have a project you want doing, sometimes it's best to not always go for the cheapest deal.
I am sorry It is not Inaccurate test Because you are using Milwaukee Drill bits Not the ones that supplied with the actual Drills What is Bosh And Black and Decker
