@@93ChayZ OEM 0w20. Liqui Moly is better but once I heard the motor run on 5w-40 (so much less ticking) i'm going to stick with the thick stuff. Makes no sense why they want RS5 on 5w30 but 0w20 on similar motor.

I do love them German cars and I like the Audis too. But I don't understand why they're such headaches. I don't think a Lexus will need this kind of service at 55k. They should have kept the old lifter Style from the B5, they last for 2 or 300,000 and rev to 8000rpm at least. I dislike the whole route Audi and Volkswagen went with the timing chain between engine and transmission. They make service so difficult. I couldn't watch the whole video but I didn't hear a price. It sounded like a $10,000 job, at least. Those rocker arms look just like the ones I changed in my Ford 5.4 3 valve. I guess the only difference is mine went for 260,000 Mi and it only took me a few hours and few hundred dollars to change it 🤣🤣🤣. I get anxiety just looking at that motor🤣🤣. This Audi makes a B5 S4 seem as reliable as a Honda and Child's Play to work on. I have 2 old Audis, B5 A4 1.8t stroker, and B5 S4. And they already cost way too much in Parts just to fix with me doing the work. After every few months of driving the b5s4 is in the garage on jack stands waiting for parts. But the motor has never been pulled in 216,000 mi. Seems like that's not something you can say with these new Audis. Beautiful and Powerful is not enough. I guess I would have to jump on the bandwagon of only owning these on a lease or while under warranty. But if I were to do that I'd end up with the M3 competition all-wheel drive. It's sad that the reliability of the S4 went down compared to a B5. At one time when I was really busy I asked for a quote for engine pull on my B5 A4 1.8. Just pull and replace what's going to be a little over 2,000, lol. I can't imagine the bills your customers get. Imagine when they start making these plug-in hybrid, like Mercedes just did. And 21 years later and Audi still hasn't figured out how to get their front control arms past 55,000 miles without cracking, lol. In the 100,000 miles I've had the b5s4 I've done them twice. I'm not going to get rid of the car for it but it is pathetic.

@@LukeEdward To lift the top of the cylinder heads off it looks like they had to remove the casing over the cam adjusters which sit back near the heat shield in the engine bay. I doubt that's something you can access to while it's in the car but there's a comment below saying Audi can do it... If you have this car and you're wanting to do this work, then you might as well do the carbon clean (valves) etc anyway which is definitely not possible with an engine in.

@@LucasSi919 If you're weighing up RS5 vs S5, interesting that Tom mentions the S5 might be the better proposition. (towards end of vid) Simpler, and safer? to remap for gains, than the more complex RS engine...
How do you know the chain didnt move at the crankshaft sprocket ? Or does it not matter ?
why the engine does not work well when you open de oil cap? I don't understand because oil compartment is independent of the compression chambers. I don't unerstand it, in my S5 also happens
I’ve seen you mentioned engines from July 2019 have the revised rocker arms but I can’t seem to find any car be it s4,s5, sq5 that are 69 reg onwards that aren’t the facelift diesel engine. Am I missing something here? I want to keep the 3.0 petrol
Is it always an engine out job for walnut blast and rocker arm replacement on the b9 s4 tfsi?

Thank you !

Great content. Do you not do anything with s3 .
I recently bought a 2018 B9 SQ5 and have what seems to be a tapping lifter - 66k miles. Any recommendations? Nothing I’m doing with fluids seems to change the tap tap tapping sound from the left side of the engine.
So what sound am I looking when seeing if I have this issue? Do I take the oil cap off and listen for tinks? 2018 S5
How much would It cost for the full job with carbon clean?

Thank you for this content 👍👍👍
Do these rattle there balls off till oil pressure hits the chain tensioners, always my fav part crossing ur fingers and hoping it don’t jump lol. If I can I try to crank with no fuel to get some oil pressure, but I can’t always do that just wondering how u do it on these.
Nice job guys.
Great Video! I have a 2022 S5 Sportback in America w/ 12,600 miles 18 months old. No issues yet. Are my Rocker Arms up to Date with the New Design? I anticipate the Carbon cleaning around 60K Miles, but should I change the Water Pump at that time? And thanks for the heads up on the Oil Issue, I plan on changing to 5W-30 Oil next oil change. Also, Should I change the oil every 6K miles instead of 10K miles. I have had one service & oil change at 8K already.
Yes you’d definitely have the new rocker arm design

I read on the forums that this is fixed in late 2018 and 2019 models, is that true ? Im currently in between getting a 19' ( i like the look more) or a new 22' ( has a warranty).
July 2019
5w30 or 5w40 also what brand ? And millers any good ?
I have a 2019 S5. Would you recommend 0W-20 or 5W-20?
Fancy doing up my Seat Leon MK1 cupra 225??
Can you give a ball park figure for preventative replacement of rocker arms with carbon clean under the assumption that nothing else gets discovered that needs doing please ?

I have a 3.0T in the 2018 SQ5 noticed when I come off the accelerator after giving it a bit of power it holds on accelerating for about a half of a second once I take my foot of accelerator any idea what this can be
I heard this problem was addressed and fixed for 2019 models and up
Correct July 19 onwards
Didn’t the diesel come out by then
I see you used bg109. Best engine flush out there
Why use engine flush? Engine oil suspected contamination?
You think better than LiquiMoly Engine Flush?
You never mentioned the approximate cost for parts and labor to upgrade the rocker arms and carbon cleaning?
No point , every job is different.
VAG gurus. What was the flashing light on the s4 dash when test driving?
that was sign recognition
I know you said this one was flawless, but does the rocker arm issue affect all years? I have a 19.
Nah it’s more for 2018 July and before builds, anything after that date the issue was resolved. Forums confirm this I believe
Tom has mentioned a few times - builds from July 2019 onwards use the updated rockers. Hope this is good news!

So on this car, everything looked good...correct? Rollers were clean and not scored, camshafts were obviously fine because you didn't replace them. I really think this is a
This was service actually. This S4 was faultless.
Are you using OEM 0w20? Or another EA839 Spec’d brand? I don’t think these engines should go more than 5k miles on the oil. I made the switch to Liqui Moly 0w20 and do oil changes about every 4k, FCP Euro Return Policy 🤓
@@93ChayZ OEM 0w20. Liqui Moly is better but once I heard the motor run on 5w-40 (so much less ticking) i'm going to stick with the thick stuff. Makes no sense why they want RS5 on 5w30 but 0w20 on similar motor.
@@hittingreens5646 what 5w-40 are you running? I'm looking at Castrol Edge vs. LiquiMoly
@@drk.walters Recently did a bit of digging and spoke to LiquiMoly who recommended their "Synthoil" 0W-40 - their 100% fully synthetic oil. They do a 5W-40 as well.
It's usually anything above the 2.0T that will require more work. Vw/Audi ea888 have much less issues in terms of reliability
What’s the issue with the vacuum on oil filler cap ?
Great work as usual 👍
Vacuum is due to the PCV system which counteracts blowby. It'd be bad news if there wasnt any, as you could blow seals in the engine.
Right, thanks for that 👍
I thought something was faulty
Thank you for the very good content! Do you know an official TPI (Technische Produkt Information) Number from Audi for this problem?
Why would you remove the upper control arms at the strut tower and not just disconnect it from the 2 upper ball joints on the knuckle?

Also would you guys suggest 0w30? You suggested 5w30 and 5w40. I heard cold start needs lots of lubrication for these motors. Is the 5w increase important here?
5w40 , they can’t have them when they start Manufacture 2019 July
How much would you say this would cost in the United States
Would you say the rocker arms are serviceable without dropping the engine from the car? Had you done that mainly to do the carbon cleaning?
PLEASE shoot us an answer on this. I can do mechanical work. I do NOT have a lift, though.
