50 year old tractor gets FIXED to scrap STEEL. New shop lights , and digging a septic line.

- In this video dad and me fix the blown rear tire on our 70s John Deere 302A. When we bought it the tires were iffy but we rode them until they wouldn’t hold air. I also put up new lights in the shop and dig a trench for sewer line and at the end scrap some steel I’ve been saving.

I know that the will it run/make it run videos are popular, but a lot of us also enjoy the workshop updates and improvements! I had seen the lights in a previous video so it is interesting to see the backstory on them-- huge improvement! And a tractor is so useful in so many ways... I want one even though I honestly don't need one! Good job on the scrap metal cleanup... very satisfying to see the "junk" disappear (and put a bit of cash in your pocket!). Keep up the good work... I'll be watching!
Yes the lights have appeared in previous vids but I’ve been filming for this video for probably 2-3 months. Glad you can appreciate the stuff that isn’t “will it run” although the next vid we will be on the 48 again
I have to admit I thought this was going to be kind of boring but as usual, you guys made an awesome video and I really enjoyed it. By the way you're not the master of none. You do a lot of great work you should be proud to shop looks awesome!
Thank you I try hard
Really nice video. Great job man 👏🏻 Of course I'm susbsrcibed 👌🏻 Wouldn't want to miss the next video 😄👍🏻
Thanks for sharing how you're working through stuff. I'm watching on Sunday night during the Super Bowl. My wife said, "you aren't even watching the game!". I said, "no, I'm watching a guy change the tires on his tractor and hang shop lights." Good stuff.
😂 love to hear it
Another great video Travis keep them coming.
Love what you’ve been doing, we haven’t talked since before COVID hit. We too have started a you tube channel. See you around. Joe
Dude it looks awesome man you did a great job you deserve every bit of it man you've been working your butt off for this channel I've been watching it since you started man Keep On Keepin On
I would have to tell you, growing up in a small Southeastern Massachusetts farm town (corn and apples locally) farrners have been doing that kind of equipment repair for 75 years. I've seen it done since I was a toddler 60 years ago. Cool to see it still done.
Yeah love the small town farmer!
I have helped do tires on our tractors 🚜 on the dairy farm my parents owned. Have had a couple of scary moments with tires a bit larger than those. 😊
Great video I was looking forward to viewing this one. Its a good thing your yard is flat and dry, forklifts don't like mud or uneven surfaces ! Have a great week.
I heard on another channel that if you take car batteries to auto zone or O’Reillys they’ll give you $12 each core charge. Way better than scrap price.
I’m sure You already know that an extra 2’ pipe slid on that jack handle makes it a bit easier….👊🏼🍻⛽️🇺🇸
Is always better to use a bottle jack for raising up a tractor. That is how we did it on the farm 🚜. Some large blocks and a 10 ton bottle jack to raise the tractor high enough to dismount the tire. Although these tractors 🚜 we had have tires that were over 6' tall the rear ones. 😊
Hey Travis, and Family,
Great video showing some variety! I personally like the mixing it up in the style of content. A little DIY home improvement, Car/truck recovery, and then some auto mechanic stuff in your new awesome and now lighted shop is great stuff!
On subscribing... I don't know how viewers of your QUALITY videos can't be! We here in our household can barely wait to see you and your awesome Dad hard at work on the old Tucson homestead.
And, can you believe the amount of rain we have been getting here in AZ!! We are getting some good soakings up here in Chandler! ☔💧🌧
-Will and Teresa 😁
Glad you guys enjoy means a lot ! And yeah more rain than normal for sure
@theetravisb Just got 4" of snow overnight up here in Upper Michigan. Now the sun is trying to peek out and tge wind is blowing quite hard out of the north now. 😳 😊
Travis..was cool to see another facet of your life..the lights and what it meant to your quality of life..and was great to see the camera shy Emily..you surely are a multi faceted dude..and master of many abilities..any content you show us adds to you and your channel..btw..Dad has a new hat...lol..
I think this is like 2 months old haha im still waiting on the dodge radiator video to
No it’s new I’ve been putting this video together since last year.
Love the lights. I had 6 curly florescent lights in my basement on weird circuits. 1 had no switch and 2 were pull chain. I rewired all and have 4 zones with Smart controls & 18 LED bulbs. North has 3, south has 5, east has 6 & west has 4 lights. They can be controlled by 4 switch's, app, routine or voice. What a difference these lights make & each light only uses 5 watts. I also installed a light like the ones you just installed over my PC workshop table. It is voice or app controlled. Alexa in center of my basement & 10 total in my home.
Now that is a interesting setup. Hands free and very effective by the sounds of it 😮😊
You can get those tires retreaded for about half the price of new ones.
I wait for your uploads all the time! You n Dad work so well together. I also like your long distance " lets save it," road trips!! So Real. Keep em coming 😂🎉
The Impala video is what got me to this channel a while ago. Subscribed and digging everything you upload. I'm really digging this everyday life stuff as well. Greetings from The Netherlands!
The Impala video was awesome! Also where they picked it up I had to drive commercial truck in those areas doing frozen foods 😊😊
I’m sure a plumber will chime in here but that 90 degree elbow should at least have a clean out on it (should probably have been a sweep 90 also). If you have a clog in the future that’s where I’d look first. Personally I’d have put a couple of more clean outs evenly spaced along the entire run, 200’ is a long run and it looks like you have a bare minimum of fall. Good luck.
💯
really like your old retail fridge are u restotring it
I liked this video. Thanks for sharing.
40:24 where FRIENDS with ((4 doors)) can HANGOUT
The new LIGHTS ARE AMAZING
Good to invest in the physical plant. Thanks for keeping us updated!
The boxes are called Double Duplex Power Boxes. But I love watching your videos because you use what you have and solve problems without spending money
Lights look great, that's a huge update for the shop. Nice work!
The. international and the elco still my favorite builds😊
Oh man!
If you leave the breaker on it makes it more exciting! 😁
So crazy that you guys can do your own electrics!! you try that here in Sweden and your not a qualified electrian your going to jail!! great job!
That’s crazy.
Wish i had your weather here in IN!
I don’t know how many lights and plugs do you think you can run off one breaker maybe you should check it out before you burn your house down or maybe that’s what you want us to see that would make awesome content
Those leds don’t pull much amps
I used to retread and repair those mine tires. You have to hand cut the tread pattern into those cause they come out of the mold as a slick. Actually I did the biggest tires made.🇺🇸
Yuck i hate the smell of burning tire
so you remove the lid and can poop down the pipe?
Yeah had to test it had the whole neighborhood try
lol good videos man
@@theetravisb 😄
Lights look good. What are those white boxes that are next to the house? They look like old washing machines
They are. Early 50s Westinghouse washer and dryer
The new lights debuted a few episodes ago.
Maybe rub your hand on the inside of the tire to make sure that there isn’t still something in the tire that will puncture the new tube
Use a shop rag
Experience speaking!
Nice
I like the bicycle
GOOD JOB BOYS!
Ok so now I see how your propery is laid out. You're making good use of it.
You are brilliant
I like how you rigged those lights! Simple and clever!
Good to see your improvements to your work area and equipment.
Travis, when we changed the tires on that tractor IN PARADISE VALLEY PARKS AND REC , WE TRIALERED THEM......YES I AM SCLOFING YOU .......TRYING TO SAVE YOU A HEADACHE LATER WHEN YOU HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN .....
BY THE WAY, THAT TRACTOR WAS VERY WELL MAINTAINED BY THE DEALERSHIP FOR AWHILE AND IN THE PVPR GARAGE......I WAS ONE OF THEM AND AM SUPRISED THAT IT IS STILL RUNNING AND COMPLETING TASKS ASKED OF IT!
Wow you worked on this tractor?
Yep....one of my family members warked for the city of Phoenix they borrowed the tractor all the time....we changed the tires just like you did, put em on a trailer, purged the hydraulic lines, greased it up , three are more grease pins near the wheel than you see in the open......
We always returned it better than we got it ..... When it was at my sites sometimes we would run the box over ASU STADIUMS BB DIAMOND
Watching you struggle putting the big rear wheels in an enclosed truck bed kinda got me a lil bit......a trailer does help....
You should let the box down so you're not lifting that weight also.
That will make it several hundred pounds lighter.
And on that kind of tractor (construction skip loader) you could put down pressure on that box to lift the back wheels off the ground anyway. YOU DON'T NEED THE JACK!
And you certainly don't need the jack to get the front wheels off the ground by using that loader bucket!
You've got a lot of toys to play with! I'd love to have a tractor of my own. Oh, and land to play on with it 😄
Thanks for the Sunday morning shop update show, Travis! And we all know Emily was riding your ass to get rid of the junk pile before her friends came over for the superbowl party! 😂
Haha I’d been piling it up for 3 years was time for a scrap run
@@theetravisbI really thought you had more than 1200 pounds there for sure. At least you got something for it. The scrap metal prices have been in the toilet for quite a while now. I spent about 8 months running a half round for a scrap yard in Central Massachusetts when I lived out there. 😊
Looking good Travis! And the lord said, Let there be light! Wow! Talk about working under the lights! Can't wait for more Theetravisb films on the Chevy. What happened to the "62 Chevy?
G,day from Sydney Australia. Nice lighting upgrade for your undercover work. 🌏🇦🇺
I discovered your site a couple of months ago and really enjoy your videos. I especially enjoy the relationship you have with your Dad. My old Pops is gone now, but whenever I'm working on my vehicles, I can still feel him looking over my shoulder like when he was teaching me the ins and outs and old Dad tricks. Now I'm the old Dad that teaches my kids.
Nice tractor Travis! I have a Hungarian friend, who lives nearby Lexington, Kentucky and he also has the same type tractor in the same colour and the same age! ❤🎉
Enjoyed this DIY video as much as the will it start and drive? videos. Same ingenuity and low cost solutions. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing and your APPRECIATION to your subscribers Travis and you will see me in the next one.
Thanks for watching 🤙🏻
Learn something new everyday I've lived in Valparaiso Indiana for 20 years never knew they made stuff like that!
I forgot to mention, that using Romex in ANY kind of conduit is a big no no☹️ thought you might want to know.
Also, what was the sense of using waterproof fittings and conduit in a non weatherproof 4x4 box? Also need a GFI.
@@kellyg46 i dont trust those metal boxes
Maybe on that tire that you’ve had to put a few tubes in, you should remove the tire completely, then feel around inside the tire to see if something sharp is pushed into the tire itself. If you don’t feel anything, it could be stuck in the rubber, you could also spray contact cement into the tire, cut a tube open and glue a “liner” inside the tire. It will probably stop the tubes from getting punctured. If it happens again, try gluing another “liner” around the outside of the tube.
What happened with the lights you had in your carport before? Or are these in addition to those?
Great video. Enjoyed watching. 👍🏼👍🏼
You do great work Travis. The lights make that shop now, happy for you.
Great Video, looking forward to the Toyota update. Baja truck?
Put an LED bulb in that old drop light. Those things are outlawed in most shops and service stations.
Why did you elect to go with tubeless rears instead of going with tubes, which would have allowed you to load up the tubes with one of the liquid solutions available? This would have given you much more weight on the rear end, with obvious traction benefits.
What happened to the van that no nonsense know how left at your did they sell it?. Is great your friends with them they also have good content and a cool hot dog 🐕. You should put up roll up shades on each one of the openings will you just put the lights in a long roll up on that open end the long one will you see the travel trailer give you some privacy from the road. Those lights could attract unwanted people especially all those people come across the border illegal. Did you have content on that Cadillac that's way cool like a Elvis Cadillac is that a 55 also?
Seeing Travis driving down the street in a fork lift while piloting a DJI drone is the coolest thing iv seen all day 😂
Gotta do what you gotta do
@@theetravisb especially when it creates the coolest shots 🫶
What is really cool is these drives can be set up to follow you. 😊
It's always nice,
To see so many actually recycle metal. That's what I do for a living, and it always has a very special spot in my heart.
Awesome video! I absolutely love that first gen you have! Would love to find one to fix up one day!
Good.job Nice tractors cool Light congratulations you show
Love any kind of video from your channel - did you ever think of painting that floor? I painted my slab and it seems to clean up easier than when it is raw concrete
That old roofing could have been used for chicken coop if you were to buy one pannel of that nowadays ud pay prolly around 90
flying an fpv while operating a forklift. badass!
Are you going to have enough drop on your drain line for that length. I hear its 1/4 inch per foot. Your going to need over 3 feet of drop.
If you ever plan on enclosing that area I hope you have planned ahead for more than one light switch.
And some people would have put that large of an area on two separate circuits.
It’s too bad you can’t put spray foam in those tubes like they do in four wheelers
In life I find you don't need to be good at everything just be good at what you do don't settle for less and hire others to do what you can't this is part of the circle of life.
U needed those tires
I farm and Carililes are cheap but they are good tyres.
good work and good video very much informative greeting form argentina
I love you guys!
Best regards from France.
Here in Arizona , our stuff doesnt rust . But plastic and rubber have a hard time ! 🌵
Yeah rubber doesn’t last
On tractors 🚜 that are not used daily, I wound think using a silver faced tarp over each rear tire would reduce the sun exposure for them when parked. Just a thought 😊
Oh man help me I’m Jonesin for a new video bad😵💫
How nice of you to put hook ups in for my RV for my next visit! 😂😂😂
$30,000 tires? I’ll sleep well tonight knowing I don’t have to worry about that expense. Very satisfying to watch the pipeline go in and the lights go up, I could do with just one of those lol. I’m so happy about your situation, you have the ideal home/shop setup besides having a complete & separate building for shop work but I’m sure you’ll expand eventually. This is great inspiration for me to achieve something similar, thanks for keeping me on track. I wasn’t surprised when you kept that piece of the Westinghouse lol, I figured you’d’ve kept the whole thing
It was hard getting rid of it . But no one’s looking for parts and it wasn’t in good shape. It’s just a hard sell
And appreciate the kind words. Yes blessed immensely to be in the situation I’m in.
Got to do a little different stuff sometimes to let us know more about you. Good job.
What’s with the sewage pipe. Are you a r,v park?
Regardless of the project, it inspires others to do more.
Great video shed looking good with the new lights
37:46 I ENJOYED THE CARPORT VIDEOS , THIS IS A GREAT VIDEO ALSO
Nice work. Love the improvements
You got so much done in this video. Looking good!
Nice job and work = as always
And still better than a master at one
Those lights look great
Use the Hilo for tires
Gotta do work to do work! :)
Vid was awesome!
Cool trucks!
Probably a stupid question, but why didn't you cut those tractor tyres off before getting new ones? To make it easier to get them into your truck.
thee
Awesome content. Thank you for sharing this with us.
God bless 🙏
