Sadly soon all gas cars will be banned in EU and USA! In France they have a new banning law for ICE cars called SCHLABOUBVE and in Switzerland the HESCHLAVVO law and in Germany the BABVVO and TEBBVO laws!!!
The rear window is called a "Breezeway" window and the center section goes all the way down and is controlled by a switch on the dash. It was a feature of the '63, '64, and '65s. In 1966, for safety concerns the rear window could only be lowered about half-way. My dad bought a '65 Montclair and I took my driver license test with it. 4200 pounds being pushed by a 390 v8 with power-assisted steering. It was a great "Drive-In Movie Theatre" car!
My parents had this very same car back in 1966. I remember going to the drive in theater and Dad would put that back window down and my brother, sister and I would sit on the deck lid, rest our arms on the roof and use the roof for a table to set our drinks and stacks on. Haven't thought of that for years.
Jack Nicholson drove a similar Montclair Breezeway in the 1970 movie "Five Easy Pieces". This is an absolutely beautiful car and fully deserves a restoration, I love it!
WOW!!! NO knocking from the valve train and NO smoke!!!! Somebody cared for this car... I've forgotten how cool Mercury's were!!!! I always liked this one, and the '68 Montego's.. Great find!!!!
funny u say that jack nickealson drove this model car in movie called 5 east peices, same colour too. think that film might have partly been filmed in texas, cause hes working on oil riggs in first half of film
Absolutely LOVED this video! My step Dad retired from the US Air Force - Dover AFB,, Dover, Delaware in June 1965. My folks bought a brand new Merc Montclair EXACTLY like this one and when he retired my folks and we four kids, my 16 year old brother, 14 year old sister and 7 year old sister made the journey from Dover to Portland, Oregon in that car pulling a 14 foot Nomad travel trailer. Yes,, it was kinda cramped with 5 full size adults and the little sis. We did not stay in any motel or hotel,, made the trip straight thru because my step Dad had to make it to his new job with the Portland FD. @2:50 you mentioned that power rear window,, it honestly did help have a good air flow thru the car which helped keep us a tad bit cooler BECAUSE our's did not have AC. Wet washcloths around our necks with that air flow helped keep the sweating to a minimum since we were packed in the interior kinda tightly. It was fun to see you try to bring this old Merc back from the dead and for me to remember that trip with my Mom, StepDad, brother and sisters who are all waiting for me to see them again in Heaven,, Thank you 🙂
Yes, factory keys. That car has the breezeway rear window. They were cool cars!!! Yes, remote side mirrors, as compared to open the window, and adjust it by hand. An upscale feature back then.
My late father in law bought 64 Monterrey 4 Dr brand new, and drove it regularly til he passed in 2005. 390/4 bl. Red with black gut. As the perennial back seat passengers, the wife and I appreciated the "Breezeway" back window that not only kept the sun off our necks, but rolled down electrically, just like they did on wagons!
Glad you found this car. My father and i similarly saved a '63 Mercury Monterey. In '63 the Monterey was the top trim level, but in '64 and later Montclair was the top. She was in damn good shape for her age. 390 2bbl which had never been rebuilt, (and still hasn't had a full rebuild because it just keeps going), AC, Ps, Pb, Cruise O matic. Nice car. Almost 4 years later and 4,500 miles down the road, we're finally getting into restoring her cosmetically in addition to our original mechanical restoration. These Merc's just cruise down the road, smooth and comfortable.
Get that Breezeway rear window operating. Then you can lay on the backseat and wiggle your feet out the window just like in 1964 while listening to Top 40 AM radio.. Seatbelts? Don't need no stinkin' seatbelts. Cool car. Go for it.
My Grandpa worked for Mercury division of Ford, I can remember him having a few that had the " Breezeway " back window when I was a little kid as he got a new one every year!, The piece that's off the Drag Link is the Power Steering control valve, It's actually broke and needs replaced, Probably big $$$$ if you can find one!, This type of PS is quite troublesome with Valve, Ram and line problems as it all always moving!, 64 was the last year they used that setup. Great Video Travis! Jeff
Cool old Mercury, those were pretty common when I was growing up, seems to me like my aunt had one of those for a short time,my uncle was an International truck dealer in the sixties and he would take in cars on trade and she'd drive them, she later on had a '64 Ford Galaxie XL four door sedan, maroon with white interior, Dad drove it for a short time and remember him saying it would pass everything but a gas station 😂
You two found a really great Mercury! I recall these things when they were new, and I liked that "Breezeway" rear window, too. It was the first powered window I'd ever seen. Looks like they abandoned it when I was still living in Arizona. Hopefully, they find a decent home for this car. Take care, stay hydrated and aloha to you all.
Nice car. Many years ago I was paid with a 1963 Ford Falcon Futura convertible for changing a transmission in a 1967 Mercury Montego. Both cars were awesome but my Ford was super cool. It had a 170CI straight 6, black interior with ivory accents. If I had kept it, the price today is like $30,000.00. Back then I could buy just about any car for approx. $50.00. My best car was 1970 Buick Gran Sport I bought for $50.00 with a bad engine. I put a 430CI engine and 400 turbo trans with overdrive from a 1967 Wildcat. That car was unbeatable and super fun to drive. I bought the Wildcat for $50.00 and to change engine & transmission cost just $5.00 for an oil pan change (gasket), & change the tailstock. Everything else bolted right up.
I just discovered your content last week or so and finding this video is so exciting. Out of all the really cool old cars I love, I actually get to work on one of these. Very exciting to see you have fun with one and talk about it
Having a car in a dry environment sure helps preserve it. A car like that in the east would be a a dissolved mound of rust by now. The way the car runs and how body panels fit together shows how workers cared avout their jobs and had pride! Computers build things faster and as we perceive better, but a computer has no pride. Lets see a 2023 Ford is 60 years and see what shape its in!
Very cool, I just saved a white 66 Montclair around the end of November with 31,000 original miles. Last registered in 2005/2006. I fixed the brakes, new exhaust and I've been driving it this entire week without any issues!
In Canada, this particular model was called "Meteor". My father had bought one back in the day, it was a black car with blue interior. Obviously, black was not the original color. That summer, he thought me pretty much all he knew on automotive mechanic, the engine was a 351 windsor, the frame and the body were solid for the year and mileage. It took a couple months to get the engine purring after a complete rebuild and that was the car we used to bring my brother to the church where he got married. Good times, good times!!!
My Dad had one of those, also with the 'Breezeway' back window, It was black with the same 390. He drove it a couple years after buying it used, then passed it down to my older brother as his first car, but it had engine issues. I remember my older brother and I spent the summer rebuilding the engine (a first for both of us) with new rings, lifters, valves lapped etc. and although we followed the Ford manual on every aspect of the rebuild and specs, it ran the first day after a couple months then hydro-locked the next day upon start up. We likely didn't get the head gasket torqued right. Shame, it was a really cool car!
12:23 - Yeah, that's EXACTLY what you needed to do to that old V8, give it a good long redline revving. Just punch it to the floor - look at all that smoke blowing out the back..... Gets her with the program REAL good and blows all the years of sitting doing nothing clean away.
Much lichen those 'Hairspray'-era cars of the early/mid-'60s... The British Ford Anglia did the same rear window... Vent windows - think our late Aunt 'Trina had a car with vent windows. Remember some time in the '70s when at a state park something-something about her car having a leaky gas tank...
There should be a nice dash made of metal after you remove the cracked dash .I removed my cracked dash with brake cleaner (I think) and it turned out great.
Felistasiones a los grandes maestros mecánicos favulosos estraordinario maravilloso son lo mejor del mundo saludos cordiales dé la república de Chile por la razón o la fuerza 😅
Hi Travis For a moment I thought you were going to say "Didn't John in Sierra Vista, where we bought the Chrysler have one of these?"....lol....I do...A loaded 64 Park Lane Marauder 2dr HT....those vents in the dash are part of the factory A/C (rare on a Montclair)...In 64 the Ford galaxies got the under dash unit but basically they are the same car...the hood is the same as a 63 Galaxie with front cap trim as are the doors with the bolted on upper caps
Nice guys. Much easier with a blower saves on seein stars before you pass out!!! And it's just faster I got that same parts car, in my back yard still has good parts
And I thought that the English Ford Anglia was the only car with a reverse angle rear window. We used to call that thing the "Anglebox" in New Zealand back in the day.
Cool old merc. Maybe it wasn't filmed but makes me crazy on 'will it start' vids when a car has sat for 30 years and its not primed before spinning it over...esp when the throttle is stuck.
A perfect candidate for an ls swap, some interior job and of course brakes and frame restoration. Just like puddinsfabshop have done with the 64 wagon.
back when a person could tell what car/model it was..they all had their own style..this car is a beauty..
How did anybody forget about that mercury? It's so cool.
I think it is not suitable for daily use due to excessive fuel consumption
@@مساعدالفراج I get that. You are talking to an American here.
Back in 78 it was my winter beater.
Mine didn’t have this level of options though.
Nice car!
Sadly soon all gas cars will be banned in EU and USA! In France they have a new banning law for ICE cars called SCHLABOUBVE and in Switzerland the HESCHLAVVO law and in Germany the BABVVO and TEBBVO laws!!!
Yeah exactly!
The Breezeway window and vents in the dashboard are just 2 more reasons to love me a Mercury ❤ She's nice and straight.
Yeah it’s actually a really nice car
Man, nice my parents had a 64 with the breeze way window, 390 engine, cool car wish I had it !

That window saved my grandpas life stuck in a snow pile snowed in escaped through that rear window
Man, my parents had a 64 with the breeze way window, with a 390, wish I had it !

This car can be used for movies if restored to its original look. Nice piece of history and a great video!
Hi there guys that a great looking car guys I love all the Ford mercury models specially the 50s and 60s they had a great looking cars mate
funny u say that jack nickealson drove this model car in movie called 5 east peices, same colour too. think that film might have partly been filmed in texas, cause hes working on oil riggs in first half of film
In 1964 Mercury was a U.S brand, the Meteor division of Ford Canada, was a cross between Ford and Mercury.
Absolutely LOVED this video! My step Dad retired from the US Air Force - Dover AFB,, Dover, Delaware in June 1965. That car has the breezeway rear window.
They were cool cars!!!
Yes, remote side mirrors, as compared to open the window, and adjust it by hand. An upscale feature back then.
I want to move to the dessert you guys find the neatest rust free cars
You and your dad are great. That Mercury was neat how easy it got running. No Rust. The desert preserves them. Amazing job men.! ❤️💯🙃
Yeah deserts a better place for cars. Thank you
Again, thank you for YOUR APPRECIATION to your subscribers Travis, it helps!!
👍🏻👍🏻 always. Thanks for watching
@@theetravisb There you go
Your videos have inspired me to get into more classic cars, got my first 2 this year!
That’s sweet man
Love the Mercury. That car is in great condition for being sat for 40 years.
Those 2. Gentlemen definitely deserve a large shout out for stopping and helping 😊
He drove it for 40 solid years ??
Great video
I have a 1964 Mercury Monterey
Love those rear windows
I got a 1968 convertible mercury Monterey @marklang3818….
Thank you for another great episode! I hope this car finds a new home.
Glad you found this car. My father and i similarly saved a '63 Mercury Monterey. In '63 the Monterey was the top trim level, but in '64 and later Montclair was the top. The Park Lane returned for 1964 as the top trim level above Montclair.

GREAT JOB DAD,.. SOUNDS GREAT!!!! I WAS TOLD THE BACK WINDOW YOU MIGHT NEED TO HAVE THE ENGINE RUNNING TO WORK FOR EXTRA POWER ,,..PEACE...
It's alive! She's a runner. Worth restoring 😎
Well worth it for a rare car like that. She wants to live again.
I can see how happy you and your dad is about the car
Such a nice car, I like it when you buy them and then work on them over many videos, I get excited to see them back to life 😁
Cool Car!
When i was a kid my uncle had one. I heard a motor whirl and that back window went down.
Caught me off guard....I was impressed!
Even for a four door that car looks so cool, love the grill and four headlights.

Yeah it looked complicated. Thanks for watching
Junkyard digs I know so much about older and classic cars just to be in his early twenties

Wow - sweet - you guys must love a challenge but nice to see that v8 fire up without too much fuss - and come on sponsors!
I love the reverse angle rear window on these. Reminds me of the little Ford Anglia 105E I had that was from the same era.
I’d love to have a Montclair! I’ve also been obsessed with the “breezeway” window for years!
That was a cool model. Those Merc’s were quite unique.
Back in early seventies my aunt Katherine had a 64 I was 8 year's old I remember riding In it every summer for 4 or 5 years.. . Was cool old car ...
Now that's a stylish rig❤

Hello from Sweden 🇸🇪.
Arizona 🇺🇸 No rust and salt♥️👍👍👍
That power assist control valve is rebuildable I've done many in my days
I've only watched 1minute and 58seconds. Hooked already!!! I love the Fords/Mercurys!❤

My mom and dad had a blue Mercury just like that. It was a great car and gave very little trouble. Rode like sitting on a cloud.
We had a '63 black with a 390.
The power back window was great ventilation!

You guys are amazing. You will find a buyer for it.
3 speed Cast Iron MX Cruise O Matic Transmission. Bullet proof.
Gotta watch banging into reverse though, have had to replace those and a few intermediate bands.
A very unique back window I think. Nice car!
My family had a 1966 Park Lane with the breezeway window, used all the time. Want to cool the interior real fast, this was the only way to go.
Please more of that really cool old school car
Nice land yacht! Rode in a couple of these back in the day! This car was surely taken care of.
Definitely was
My dad had the wagon went on a lot of road trips great car 352 cu. In.

I had a car like that in Texas way back in the 70s. Pretty neat old cars,

Another great video 👍👌🇨🇦

Yes we do to thanks for joining
Mr. B. Here ! I am not fan , but here in the north east vehicles like these are long gone ! Would be a nice driver with TCL ! 😅😅😅😅
Another great video. Really enjoying your style
Thanks Andy
Hi guys i love those cars we never got them here worse luck . Cheers mate 🇦🇺
Great video retiring to tuscon in a few months can't wait
That’s cool enjoy
C 6 was introduced 1966 thats a FMX transmission
Nice job. It would be nice to get that car back on the highway.
There is a kit to replace that ball, the concave pieces and the sleeve cover looks like it is missing that wraps around the ball and the valve.
Nice car. I love that space age styling.
Yeah it was so cool
I’d love it so 60’s retro style
Cool old merc. Maybe it wasn't filmed but makes me crazy on 'will it start' vids when a car has sat for 30 years and its not primed before spinning it over...esp when the throttle is stuck.
Gorgeous Car
That's a good find.
Transmission would be a 3 speed FMX. C6 did not come out until 1966 and C4 was never put behind FE engines.
A perfect candidate for an ls swap, some interior job and of course brakes and frame restoration. Just like puddinsfabshop have done with the 64 wagon.
Good.job😄👍👍👏👏👏cool. Mercury 😍😍
I always want that kind of car.
Travis you brought again a dead in life back ! Unbelievable...
Good job
gorgeous car.
In 1965 they went to a double sided key, so it could be inserted either way, unlike the '64 which is just a one-sided key.
Oh interesting that’s cool
I had a '65 Mercury Colony Park Wagon. Same car, basically.
looks very good
