Hey Puddin, been around these old John Deere tractors my whole life. If you need to get that clutch unstuck, cut the fuel, then put it in gear and flat tow it on good solid ground. We always do 4th gear on the synchro transmissions. Once it gets up to speed, turn the fuel on and then ignition (not the starter) so its driving on its own power. Then slam on both brakes and the clutch at the same time. The motor should have enough force to break it free if it isn't stuck real tight. All that gunk in there is most likely from the rear main seal being a little weak, so it might not hurt to split it anyways.

Another idea was leaving used targets around the place but it is hard to say besides not leaving good stuff down there.

This video brought back a memory from when I was about 14 or 15 years old. At that point in my life I started to realize my dad wasn’t going to be around forever. Well I remember this particular day me and my dad were sitting in the car. And I remember telling him how much he meant to me. He didn’t say anything but I could tell he knew I really meant what I was saying. About a year and a half later we found out he had a very aggressive form of cancer. He passed away about a month after getting that diagnosis. I really miss him so Puddin your a good son and I can tell you really respect your dad and that’s good. Let me say, I wouldn’t be upset if you took a couple videos and tuned this up for your dad. Clean it, plugs wires, maybe new hoses build, and have slick buff her out and just make sure your dad has a good tractor. New seat and such. You can “steal” it for a little bit asking to use it to move stuff around your junkyard. But I would be okay with a delay on the other projects for a bit. Your dad is such a great man, I can tell he deserves this.

To loosen the clutch. Park the tractor with a board holding the clutch depressed. Use a little heat in the clutch/flywheel area. It looks like you can get a bar/screw driver to break it loose. But you need to hold the clutch released. I grew up on a farm and our tractor clutches would get rusted to the flywheel. Also put a load on the tractor in gear but keep the clutch depressed, it break loose.

Hey Puddin, those hydraulic lines you are talking about (above the starter) are for the remote hydraulic cylinder outlet on the back of the tractor. I imagine you may have to split that tractor to get that clutch freed up. Also, make sure you drain out that water and get some antifreeze in that engine, hate to see it get froze up and bust the block. Moreover, that 4010 sure sounds pretty sweet for being 60+ years old!

Man Puddin you freak me out when you grabbed that spinning pto! My best friend got his flannel sleeve caught on one n wrapped his arm to his elbow on an old Allis C in idle. His cousin was there n tugged him out of it. Broke his arm in 5 places n mushed his hand like jello.
Other than that, this was one of my favorite videos. My dad is still alive but his second wife n her kids is his new life n we don't matter to him no more. You are a lucky man!

If y'all haven't got that clutch freed up yet, I got a trick to try before you split the tractor. I used to have an old Ford that seized the clutch every year, and this worked. Start it in gear and get it going at 5mph or so. Holding the clutch on the floor and keeping it throttled up, stab the brakes sharply and then immediately release them before it stalls you. Might take a few attempts but it always worked for me.

Always love the content with your dad. You can’t replace family. You say sitting on your ass won’t finish your project. Well I’m working on me so I got a stationary bike and I ride the bike while I watch your show. That’ll just get me into better shape as an old guy I can always use the exercise. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us.
