This Fix worked for me. i couldnt dispense ice for the past 3-4 years due to this issue creating a massive block. i would open it up and just pull out ice that hasnt binded together. After this fix i have nice seperated ice again! thank you for your video. dispending through my door again without issue. Fix took me about 30 minutes taking my time.
Great to hear! I almost was ready to throw this fridge out before attempting this fix! It's been rock solid (not literally lol) ever since! -Going on 12 years now!
Your fridge is probably tilted forward. I had the same problem with the same model and I did some research and found out that these Samsung refrigerators need to be tilted back by adjusting the wheel bar at the bottom to avoid this problem. Once I did my adjustment it solved the problem. Good video. Thanks
Good idea....I actually tried that before doing this method, but it had very little effect. I suppose I can try tilting it further back if it starts up again. Thanks!
I never considered tilting the fridge back some more. Giving that a try first. If that fixes it, I'm going to feel like a dumbass, but a happy dumbass. If not, I'll move on to the silicone method
Tilting it back didn't fix it but silicone grease around the sensor just below the arm you were talking about fixed it. There is a plastic white cover with a rubber gasket there and it fell off when disassembling. I put silicone grease on the rubber gasket, and both sides of the plastic cover. So far so good. Thanks for the video.
Make sure the problem isn't high water pressure. My city increased the incoming line pressure to 60lbs. I not only had large chunks in my tray, but water sprayed onto the sides and bottom of my ice tray box and froze the ice tray to the bottom of the box. I discovered the high pressure when water splashed out of the glass I was filling from the drinking water dispenser . I put a small inline control valve on the water line between the house filter and the refrigerator. So far it's working. City increased the pressure due to large increase in local construction.
Thanks for this, very helpful. I needed the video mostly for taking apart this exact same unit and finding out why ice isn't dispensing. Turns out the ice cubes got stuck when the motor turned on to release them and since then no more ice. Took it apart, thawed out the ice, verified the switch was working (It looks like this basically shorts out a transistor?) and hoping to catch the sound of water filling the trays or an ice dump soon. What does the "test" button do on the front right-side of the ice dispenser? Thanks again!
Thanks so much !! I have a refrigerator samsung model RF4287HARS My ice maker makes ice but it freezes too much and the ice cubes stick together and are difficult to pass through the dispenser. What would be the problem or do you recommend I change everything?
So what happens with these types of ice machines is that they allow water to drip 💧, causing the cubes to freeze together. If you do this same hack, it will stop excess water from dripping. My 13yr old fridge has been perfect after I did this hack. Thanks!
Thanks for the video, I was watching it for another reason but couldn't get the info I needed because of all the fast forwarding, next time please try to get closeup video of the other parts except the one you are actually fixing in case people need to see how other systems look, thank you and great video regardless.
I have the same model ice maker and I think it is out completely. For the last three or so weeks, I could hear the water kick on and the ice maker go through its process in filling the tray, but then it would put out a loud knocking sound, about 5-6 knocks, which made me think that it was about to go out. I tried the reset (pressing for 10 seconds as directed), heard the sound and could feel the ice maker unit vibrate. I waited 30 minutes but didn't hear the unit resetting or adding water, etc. (not even the knocking). When I press the lever I can hear the auger and checked the water and it appears the lines are free. I want to verify in your opinion, is this unit out and need replacement? thanks.
Sorry for the late reply. It does sound like there is a major issue...like there is a motor/gear problem causing the knocking, and perhaps it is unable to clear the ice for the next batch. Did you end up replacing the ice maker?
LOL, oh trust me it was a pain haha! The cold temps harden the plastic and you might need to use some needle nose pliers (with some thin rubber tubing to help protect things).
Do you have an idea why doesn’t make ice? It was working fine but we stop the water pipeline for 2 months, and now that we connected to the water line is not working
thanks! a quick question: Is there any freezing coil in that unit? My unit is the same. It takes water in, but it does not make any ice. Water stays liquid for days. Some folks suggest that freezing coil may be broken, but I don't see any coil there. Thanks.
I am actually not sure about the freezing coil, or how it freezes the water to make ice. I do see these units sold on eBay. Might be easier to just replace it.
It could be that there is ice frozen where it shouldn't be, locking the unit in. If all else fails, you may have to defrost it in order to remove it. You are correct regarding the arm, once it is full, it should be up.
can you provide replacement part, my unit stop making ice, ice compartment doesn't feel cold at all, there's no noise from motor … water dispenser stills works but not ice cold... I have the GE Model # PFSS9PKYASS /// SN# GS570044
Oh no, sorry to hear. Does the water from the fridge work ok? You should be able to pull the ice maker out and look at the line from inside to see if it is frozen.
@@andresfigueroa8320 Steamers are great for dethawing these things! That's what the pros use. Hairdryers work, but aren't recommended because they can warp the plastic. Good luck!

This is something I had not thought about. I'm glad that inline regulator worked for you!

Thanks. Needed the steps to remove the tray. Had one stuck ice cube. Easy fix. Thanks again.
Glad it helped!
OOPS!! almost forgot. Great video.
Thank you!

I have the same model and had the same problem. Used this fix and for the last few days, at least, problem solved.
Good to hear. Hope it's been problem-free. Ours has been perfect since the making of this tutorial! :)
We are having trouble removing the wiring harness that is plugged in on the side. It looked so easy when you did it. Any tips? Please
Same here the wire harness feel like it's going to break ...

I believe that there is a fan that blows air from the freezer to the ice maker. If you pull out the ice maker, you'll see an air duct in the back.
Thanks for sharing your video bud
Thanks for watching!
We can’t get ice maker out after popping that tab. Also, water won’t fill. Should that arm be down until bucket is full?

Hey James, I have the same unit...is it still working properly?
Hi Mike, yes it is still working wonderfully after this video! :)
Any suggestions for the arm if it stays in up position and doesn’t drop ice. Filter has been changed. Ice is in the tray, but I can’t get it to drop
There is a small motor that controls the arm. It could be a loose connection, bad wiring, or a bad motor itself.

James, my ice isn't being made, think the line is frozen

How do I unfreeze the line?
