Soulmates over here😂 My Frigidaire countertop is pulled apart all over the kitchen. My teenage daughter despises my attempts. Thankyou so much, much better info than just “clean the inside “
2/17/23, My husband decided to tear mine apart to see why it will work maybe 10 to 15 seconds then shut off and/or start flashing "add water". Usually the tank is full. Now he's given up and told me to order the other ice maker I found when I stumbled across this one. I just want my ice back.
I feel you on the year and half and it stop working. Well seems like I have the same problem. It starts out pumping then stops. I’m a women so it may take me a little longer to get what your saying
I have this icemaker, and when it gets hot in the summer, it quit making ice, because it becomes overheated, even though I have in front of a window, so if you’re buying it for the summer, if you don’t have an air conditioner in your home to keep this icemaker cool down. It’s not worth purchasing it for the price of this icemaker get a refrigerated instead, that has an year around icemaker.
Mine same symptoms so I checked the shaft. I attacked it from the top and once I took off the metal pass through with the holes I could see the upper gear the shaft turns. I manually turned it and it seems to be in connected because the little motor fan by the gear box spins when I manually spin the gear. Does that sound about right? I sat my leaf blower beside the condenser to blow more air and got one piece of ice out which makes me think I maybe low on refrigerant.
@@JAH-ti8lm I was able to fix mine. The main reason it wasn’t making ice was the condenser coils were clogged with dust. It’s the vents on the left and right side of the machine. Blow them out with compressed air.
Good video, I'm having the exact same issue, Can you explain to me how can i extract the screw that spins? mine machine this is stuck and I can get it out. Thanks
It sounds like yours is corroded and stuck. It is designed to just slip out. Check out my other video and you'll see it's just a square drive. You may have to loosen the 4 allen hex bolts that hold the cylinder to the gearbox, then pry it apart from the outside at the base.
You have a good understanding of how this one works. Mine pees water down the chute at the beginning of each cycle, soaking all of the existing ice in the box. It quits leaking water and starts making ice after 5 mins or so. I exchanged it for a 2nd one and it does the same thing. Any suggestions?
The machine is designed to “pee” to cycle the water in the upper tank between each use. Unfortunately it does melt some of the ice each time it kicks on. Unfortunately no fixing this as it is designed to do it.
Trying to run cleaning cycle but nothing happens. Makes noise but won’t cycle the vinegar. Have done it many times before. Ridiculous that such an expensive thing should quit after 1.5 years
Any chance I could pay you to make one of them for me? Can’t find any new but I just got a free Opal 1 that this is what I believe is wrong with it as the extruder area gets cold but it’s not dropping any ice
@@supershelby67 I took mine apart after and realized several gears in the gearbox were stripped-plastic gears in the midst of metal and ice lol. Of course they don’t sell parts for them anywhere so I had to buy an entire used gearbox but I still want to get some replacement gears made
You could probably make a pretty good penny by making those. Mine is doing the same and I can tell it’s that part because I can see the extractor not spinning, I can spin it on it’s on but then it will start to spin again but stop shortly and then lock up completely until I force it to move or reset it.. I would buy one from you as well because I don’t know where to find them and I really don’t see myself making one lol not that talented lol.. by all the videos I have found out about it yours is the only one that pin points the true problem.. God bless you and your family..
Bottom line, these ice makers are crap. A $500+ appliance that requires lots of maintenance while it works and quits after 2 years. Call GE and they will tell you to clean it. Eventually flushing it with bleach/water solution and vinegar will no longer work. They will also tell you there is no product service available for these expensive ice makers. There are no replacement parts available. Bottom line, don’t buy this product. You can buy a lot of nugget ice from Sonic for $500 and keep it in your freezer without all the hassle of owning this piece of junk.
As a 20+ yr. Machinist, I applaud your Scrouge efforts and aspire to carry on repairing everything I own.👍

Thank you for sharing. Sure would have been nice to see a video of the inside Thanks again
I'll probably add a video soon. I have to take it apart again to replace a leaking o-ring

Great pair of videos. I just tore mine down and saw my shaft is broken. Would you consider making one for me? I can't find the replacement anywhere.
Thanks for sharing, ran distilled water and it still bricked, shame on GE and the Profile name
If you don't have the tools a create your own drive shaft for the gear box, any other suggestions on how to make this repair?

Do you have trouble getting the ice bucket in it seems like it's in but it's not going all the way up I heard a piece of ice fall out

Yes, I agree that your refrigerant level is low
I cannot get the worm gear out of mine. Any suggestions on how to get it out?
Mines spinning, and it starts making a little bit of ice very slowly but then stops making ice and everything still stays white light.
So does mine 😑

How do you get to the freezer section? I can’t get the styrofoam off. I cleaned out all the tubes (which were disgusting) but it’s still not working.
The Styrofoam should separate from the top fairly easily once all the screws are out. From there is just bolts

@@supershelby67 OK Thanks very much for the response. like you said, it is probably stuck due to rust, I will try what you suggested.
Any idea how to fix a bad compressor that wont kick on?
No, I haven't had that issue yet.

Stan H is correct. It washes ice as it starts up

Did your water move down the trough in the back?
How did u make the cylinder square
Ordered stainless steel bar and made one on my lathe

Sure, if I still had the old broken shaft. I tossed it a while back

my ice maker those not do ice it says add water and it has water
Could you order the part?
Would you consider making these and mailing them out 😂
Watch this at 1.5X speed. You're welcome.
You’re supposed to use distilled
Yeah, lesson learned after $500 for an ice machine for only 1 year… just past warranty.
@@Carolg99 that’s life. Directions are key. Main reason I bought it was for whiskey. Distilled makes it better.
Yes, distilled is the best way to go. If not, you must use the descaler once a month for 18hrs or you'll build up calcium.
Yeah, I won’t be doing all of that since I don’t have the tools to do all of that.
We used distilled and ours is doing this now.
