  • If you are using a bread machine for the first time, this is the recipe to start with! It's a basic white bread, nice and simple so you can learn the process.
Bread machines are so easy to use and you get great tasting fresh bread out of them for less than 5 minutes work! Literally, just put in all of your ingredients into the bread pan, put the pan into the machine, and the bread machine does all the mixing, kneading, rising, baking, and warming!
The ingredients listed will be for a 1-1/2 pound bread, you can adjust the ingredients if you want a different size loaf. Just don't go beyond the capacity of your bread machine!
    INGREDIENTS for 1-1/2 pound loaf
    1 cup water
    2 Tbs oil
    2 Tbs sugar
    1-1/2 tsp salt
    3 cups flour
1-1/2 tsp bread machine yeast OR 2-1/4 tsp regular active dry yeast
    INGREDIENTS for 2 pound loaf
    1-1/4 cup water
    3 Tbs oil
    3 Tbs sugar
    2 tsp salt
    4 cups flour
2 tsp bread machine yeast OR 1 Tbs regular active dry yeast
    Bread Machine Yeast

Thank you. This is possibly the most helpful bread machine video I've seen. Most people watching this video is because they are new at baking bread and want to learn how it's done. So I can really appreciate all the thorough explaining. I disagree when people complain that you talk too much. For me when people go off topic, like chat about getting their hair done or taking the dog for a walk, etc. is when I'll say, okay now that's talking too much.

I tried your recipe for the first time a little earlier and i gotta say wow. I have struggled with making bread in my bread maker with not much success but i kept trying. This came out so well it didnt go flat or dense like mine normally does. I followed recommendation to cook on medium colours but i found that was to dark for me and the bottom end was a little to crispy but i have to say the loaf didnt last long. So tomorrows loaf will be a lighter colour. Thanks for a wonderfully easy and delicious recipe

I just got my Oster bread maker today and i was still unclear about many things as i never used one before. Thank you soo much for your detailed instructions. I would have surely messed things up if i didn't view this video. I thought it was set and forget it, but when i checked the dough it was far too wet and sticky so i added the flour i would not have added without your instructions. Now it is absolutely perfect. Best know how to video on here by far.

This recipe turned out great for me. I just made my first loaf, and it was GREAT!. The only thing I would modify, and usually this is to taste, is the salt. I prefer the bread to be a bit saltier, so I will up that a half a tsp or so for the next time around.

Cutting the slices that way might be good for households with small children but this is not the size most people are used to eating, for say a sandwich. The reason I watched this video is I have a bread machine like yours, and haven’t used it in 5+ years, you explained it very well, the only thing I would not do is to cut it your way. I’ll wait till the loaf cools completely and then lay it on its side and use the serrated knife to cut slices, or use my bread slicing form I bought, it’s made of wood andirons cuts my sandwich style slices that I have enjoyed having for some 60+ years. Thank you for making this nice video. It has helped refresh me with my brand of bread maker and just how to put the ingredients in order. Thanks again for both of the recipes you give and the alternate amounts of yeast and the description of which yeast you use what amount for which yeast. This was very informative and friendly in nature😄😋

If you have an old Welbilt or DAK machine with a glass dome lid (you might find one in a thrift store), you must use the red rubber gasket then put your pan in the machine (twisting to lock in place), and put in the paddle before adding ingredients starting with yeast, flour and ending with water on top. This is the opposite of machines like hers where the pan is a sealed unit. I like the large glass dome because you can watch the process without opening the lid. It's hard to see through the small flat windows because they steam up and it's really dark inside. This is a really good instructional video for using a bread machine--you offer great tips!

Thank you for your video! During the winter storm (2021) we were all confined to the house and ran out of bread! Well, I used your video to make the bread with ingredients I had in the cabinet and actually had some instant yeast (was old.. but had no choice). For my first time making bread, it came out perfect, smelled great and tasted perfect. I've decided to do it more often and stop paying almost three dollars for a loaf of bread at the local grocery store and it helps get rid of my seldom used flour that I normally throw away because I have kept it too long.

Thank You! This is so helpful. I just got a bread machine, it's the type with 2 things at the bottom to mix it, but my bread was just awful. I've made bread for years and this dough looked more like a batter. I was following the directions in the book. I had no idea that there is yeast for bread machines here, I haven't been able to find it. I'm in Norway and so far I have just found reg dry yeast, one for sweet breads, I have no idea the difference, and then the cake type. The bread tasted OK but it was pretty sorry looking. I ended up feeding the birds outside with it. So thank you again for this video.

This video covered it all, i always thought you HAD to use bread flour. Every kitchen should have a bread machine to save "dough".

Yeah buy a machine that you still gotta put flour, buttermilk, eggs, salt, baking soda, and yeast in. But, hey, at least you don't have to knead it. That's a few minutes of your life SAVED!!!
