  • It's been a little over two months since the release of Bend Studios's DAYS GONE for the PS4. Though the game was met with sour review scores and mixed feelings at launch, more and more gamers have been won over my this open world survival action game, including myself. Here's why I personally loved DAYS GONE...

This is one of the best exclusives out on PS4.
At first bought AC origins, but got so bored that I kept that aside & bought Days Gone despite rave reviews.
Days Gone is what a walking dead game should be.
The game is so good with great story, open world design, graphics, customisations, dialogues, characters & side missions. Deacons character reminds me so much of young Rick from Walking Dead.
Deacon is such a BADASS character who will not cross certain lines.
God!! I loved the conversation between deacon & other characters.
Deacon becomes powerful as you move forward in the game , so much that you can take on an entire horde, unlike AC Origins where you grow powerful along with the enemies, which makes upgrading system quite pointless.
I can imagine this game moving in total RPG direction in sequel with multiple endings just like walking dead tv series.
PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR & BUY THIS GAME!!!

    • @TheSlicktyler
      @TheSlicktyler 4 года назад +3

I loved how realistic they portray the characters and dialogue. Early in the game there is distinct odd, off-putting dialogue within Deacon, saying "ummm" or "yup" or other 1 word responses seemed like it was lazy writing to me, but then again, it fits his character. He's insecure, he's lonely and I love the awkward and charming conversations over the radio between boozer and deacon and it seems realistic. I'm so tired of quirky odd freakball characters which there are in this game like the crazy cultists, but every other camp seemed natural and realistic. There are conspiracy theorists in our world, and Copelands broadcast radio station seemed realistic and so did Deacons response to them. Idk just these small details make the game great and not only that but when some characters want to ride with you, i was so fucking happy that I can finally take a break and enjoy the absolute gorgeous atmosphere and graphics and its innovative. I dont want to escort every person like in GTA where you're the fucking uber driver for your crew

I did all the fun stuff early in the game and now I'm found doing mission after mission of the same thing with the same outcome and the story continues to backtrack in order to be longer. However Days Gone's story never backtracked, it kept moving forward and I completed that game in just over a week whilst still doing all the side stuff because I was gripped by the story which unfortunately I couldn't say for those other games you mentioned.

Loved the game play mechanics, the variety of enemies, the camp dynamic, the story gripped me from the beginning, the rendering, the locations, the weather system. All great. Albeit, I got the game after it came to PC (I am not a console player -- have never mastered the two fisted controllers) so many of the glitches were solved, i never noticed the stability issues or performance issues.

I was in the same boat as many people I'm sure. I waited for the game with mixed hype, the trailers and gameplay reveal made it look a bit clunky, but with some really cool ideas. I was worried that the combat would be floaty and lacking impact. But I started seeing so many videos on RUclips about how reviews got it so wrong and that the game NEEDS to be given a chance. So I gave it a chance, and after playing for just one day (the whole day, in fact. that's how hooked I got), I can't stop thinking about it. I am not an easily impressed gamer and I have really high standards for immersion. I am so upset that a game this good gets such negative reviews from big companies like IGN (6.5) and Gamespot (5), because it gives such great games less of a chance to make the breakthrough they need so that gaming can evolve from cheap copy-paste open world games to something so carefully and lovingly crafted. It's a must-have and a must-play, and I'm still only within the first 5-10 hours, and apparently the game really only gets going after this. Could not be more excited, and I can't wait to finish my work so that I can get back to seeing what's next in Deacon St. John's journey!

That’s interesting what you said about the music. I felt the music was on point, along with the sound design. From smaller things like the way the horde music creeps in to the point you’re heart is already racing from the first note each time it pops up when you haven’t even seen the horde yet but know they are close. But to the overall score of the main theme and song selection. I still find days gone songs stuck in my head from time to time and felt the music selection, while thematically overused in the genre staples of say Sons of Anarchy or Walking Dead, there’s a feel for shows like that here, it always fit. And the main theme was really memorable and conveyed exactly the right tone to it. Amazing game though. I didn’t pick this up until PS5, which with the 60 fps frame rate is near flawless in it’s gameplay, and was really surprised at how awesome this game was. I did not put this game down once I started it and it is definitely a criminally underrated game. Ironically I just started playing Rage 2, and found that while the story is ridiculous and lacking, it is also one of the funnest and more underrated games I’ve played in a long time. Moral of the story is never trust the reviews. I’ve heard they are making Days Gone 2 and I hope they do. This became one of my top games of all time. Which is incredible given the reviews. The game just has heart where if you stick with it you will be rewarded. And the surprise hit is always that much sweeter when you experience it. This is one of the few games I replayed again, especially given it’s size, and eapecially in such a short few month timeframe. And also one of the rare games I continued to play after the credits rolled by spending hours after clearing out the remaining hordes, which until near the end game I was afraid to go near. The level of fear this game puts in you in some situations, and later on overcoming that when you finally take on your first horde, it feels earned. I could go on for paragraphs about this game but if anyone has not tried this game yet and is even remotely interested in it, play it. You will not be disappointed.

One thing id like to mention is the tension you feel while exploring. Many times i would take a mission and get a ? for me to check out. Id get off my bike and before i knew it i was far away from the bike. The atmosphere and tension would be almost overwhelming as i realized how much i depended on the bike for ammo and travel. More than once while away from the bike too far, i would encounter a horde.....and just quiver hiding in the bushes while watching it walk by. Truly a walking dead moment imho. This is one of the best review of the game i watched so far, i love good open world games with a long but good story. Keep up the good work man!

Honestly think the bullet time is a big reason the game works in combat. Whenever I fought hordes id sprint away get good distance, turn around and bullet time and right as it runs out sprint for more distance again. Might actually be my favorite thing about the game it was endless fun

never saw such wrong reviews.. Days Gone was the best console game i ever played. The motorcycle was the best vehicle of any game and better than any mounts. I loved the combat even as much as some other best console games like Dragon's Dogma. I really hope they will make a sequel and people will finally be able to give the franchise the love it deserves.

Ugh, no wonder devs play it safe and endlessly churn out COD clones when games like DG are criticized for writing, acting, storyline, etc. Jeez, man, if you want a zombie apocalypse *movie* to punch holes in, I'm sure there are plenty out there. The gameplay for DG was a shit load of fun, and should just really be judged upon that aspect. After all, it is only a _game_

Dude you aint lying i loved this game but i understand some of the complaints like performance issues and glitches i didn't have much of those just a few like a zombie running forward not towards me and not even being attackable other than that it good not great I'd say 8/10

theguyinthere Yeh, I guess I was fortunate enough to get the game when most issues had been patched. In fairness Bend did have 7 years to work on DG, so there shouldn’t have been game breaking bugs upon release. That I do get. They should have had testers working around the clock to notice these things, maybe then such a great game wouldn’t get so panned by critics. Hopefully they’ll learn from this and bring us an even better sequel or DLC.

theguyinthere Oh, my bad, I was quoting someone else in regards to production time. According to wiki, development on DG began early 2015. Oh well, maybe they’ll make something even better next time. I emailed the creative director - John Garvin with some ideas for a sequel. Hopefully, he’ll take them into consideration

Okay I liked Days Gone but, lets be real its not one of the best Sony exclusives for ps4. I think 6.5 was a fair score (IGN's review). But considering the fact that bend studios had a small team and this was their first attempt at a AAA game, its a good attempt. It was kinda like uncharted when it came out it was really fun but unrefined.

    • @SaiTorr
      @SaiTorr  4 года назад

On reflection, I think I mostly agree with this take. Objectively, the game falls somewhere in the middle of the PS4 exclusive library. On a personal level, I think it ranks even higher for me (sorta like that first Uncharted game). Definitely curious to see where Bend goes next with this series.

You put down your praise and criticism for this game in quite a different way than what I've been seeing so far. I bought this game at launch back then, I had it preorder from a "Take 3 Pay 2" preorder deal. (Alongside Sekiro and Dark Souls Trilogy)
I played for a few days, and I am sure that I spent at least 10-12 hours on it, but I didn't get very far on the story at all, I think the last main mission I had done was near the beginning, rescuing a girl from a town.
I'm slow with games, I explore a lot etc and spent most of my time hunting or completing enemy camps. And I got very burned out on the game... Especially after having preordered it due to it being an exclusive. So I sold the game after that and vowed buy it again someday in the future when it was cheap to give it another go.
I used the money to buy Rage 2 a few days later btw lol... I mean, I *did* have my blind chaotic fun with it, but yeah, it wasn't much of a game. Especially not at full price.
So anyway here I am today checking out a bunch of analysis on Days Gone... It's currently 23€... Greedfall is 25€, and I'm trying to find out which I will be purchasing.
Thanks for the analysis. So far it's the one that has done the most to convince me that this time I might really get into this game and have a good time.

This would have been a great game if it wasnt so busted. I'm sort of addicted to it like a bad drug, and when I load it I'm wondering what's going to go wrong this session: Binoculars gone?, 'Ear to the Ground' skill STILL not working? How many unavoidable sniper ambushes, (with the sledgehammer follow-through)?
Going to be in the middle of something, then teleported to a cutscene? Or notice something stupid like being barred SILENT weapons in the mines?
    Never mind: pass the pipe.

Everyone has the same thing to say about this. The first half of this game is a sloth it moves so so so slow and keeps on dragging. Your bike is garbage and you have to refuel it every time you go out on a mission. The weapons are awful as you are given crap guns and crap melee weapons to being with. Now once you get to the new area in the game i.e. the second act that’s when you start to have fun. You get much better weapons and you can frequently upgrade you bike and you will finally get to what you came in for i.e. hordes. Trust me once you get to the 2nd half of the game you will not be able to put down your controller. Just bare with the 1st Half which can be boring and almost will make you quit. Add to the fact those slow walking missions with literally a cut scene every 30 seconds will make you tear your hair out but stick with it

I've just started Days Gone - I havnt played a true open world game since RDR2 (spiderman didn't tick that box for me) and have stacked up on TLoU, Uncharted 1-4, Tomb Raider's...so coming back to open world needs some time to adjust and SLOW DOWN...jm so used to Rockstar's mechanics so initially feels odd, but I'm excited by this game - sure it already has its flaws, but we all forgive RDR2 for its too. I'm looking forward to getting lost in this game.

I love everything about Days Gone...and I mean everything! It has the most amazing open-world universe of any game I've ever played. You can't compare Days Gone to some of those other games you mentioned. Games like Spiderman, God of War and The Witcher 3 are games that involve the supernatural, where anything goes. This is a game about humans and infected creatures. It's a game about survival in a world where there is no "magic", just human instinct, grit, determination and yes, caring and concern for and a desire to help others. It's a great story with great and believable characters. Deacon and Boozer are just so damn cool! The music is suspenseful at times and poignant at other times, and it fits the game perfectly. Just go back and watch the scene again when Deacon rescues Lisa for the first time and brings her back to Tucker's camp. That scene is a classic and so is the game. Most importantly, Days Gone has a little 3-letter quality that all gamers want most...FUN!!!

As you said it’s not like anything in the game changed. It’s you who changed and just accepted the game for what it was . That doesn’t make the critics wrong!!!
