  • Days Gone is a far more deserving game than most of the games press is giving it credit for. It's not perfect by any stretch, but it's worth your time and money if you are looking for gripping narrative experiences.

      It runs okay on PC... I'm running a 2070 super with 32 gigs of ram, a 3700x and the game struggles to hit 100fps on my 3440x1440p monitor. I can't get it to lock to my monitors refresh rate unless I put nearly everything to medium at 90% resolution scale. That 10% hit to resolution makes a HUGE difference! The game ends up blurry... but it's the only way I can lock to 100hz at that resolution. I have both my CPU and GPU overclocked as well. What are you running and at what resolution/framerate?

      Kartik Punna Very. I can’t say much about Anthem, but I own 76 and can confirm Days Gone runs much better. Given, that’s to an extent when the textures look like they’re on a PS1 and you need to restart the game. Then it’s good as new for a few more hours of playing. (I dumped 6-10 hour sessions playing until the end.) There was a pivotal cutscene in Lost Lake where my audio became way out of sync and the textures were absolute garbage, but honestly I knew I should have restated prior to that mission.

    I actually liked the gunplay mechanics in this game. You only have a limited amount of ammo, your aiming ability is realistic given the gun you have, enemies realistically move around to avoid getting hit, etc. You have to think about where to position yourself, what enemies to target, when to use your focus, etc. So it's basically a thinking man's game, even when you are in a gun battle.

      The AI has been the biggest letdown. Freakers are dumb, as expected, but so are humans. The bear boss fight was particularly bad. The bear in my game didn't even want to fight and kept walking away. I reloaded the game three times and the AI was still spotty. When I compare that to the experience I had fighting the Legendary Grizzly in RDR2, it doesn't even compare.

    Gotta disagree with thoughts on the bike and combat.
    1. The realistic physics make you have to think about you drive your bike and how you attempt short cuts.
    2. Fuel is exhausted fast when you’re “flooring” the gas the whole time. You gotta ride it like you would a real bike. Throttle when your going up hill, coast down hill, throttle on turns. It gets really fluid when you control it right
    3. The lack of ammo had me get creative in battles. Shoot 1 or 2 people, move, melee, move, shoot, roll, shotgun, roll, etc. makes you have to think about where people are going and how you can line them up.

      The physics for the bike can be a bit janky at time but overall I thought it was good and liked how fuel worked too, you have to think about how you drive until the last fuel tank upgrade at least. The ammo thing though isn't actually that bad if you ever low there is undoubtedly a cop car nearby to get some from, it does however suck that your ammo limit is quite low in the beginning understandable but still sucks lol.

    You criticized the fuel efficiency of the bike, and while I kind of agree, it should be pointed out that you can upgrade the gas tank throughout the game, meaning it gets way more fuel efficient as you play. I don't think it was fair that you neglected to mention this. Sure, in the beginning its somewhat a pain in the arse, but mid game its far less an issue and late game its a non issue, as the gas tank is so big you can ride for long periods without needing gas.
    The same applies to the combat. Two of the most common complaints that I hear about the game is that the gas isn't enough and the combat is clunky. Its that way on purpose and becomes less an issue the further you play. As I mentioned, you can upgrade the gas tank to have more fuel efficiency, but likewise the guns & melee weapons are extremely weak initially and you have no skills. As you level up and gain skills you get access to more things that drastically improve the combat (both shooting & melee). And the guns are weak, but as you play you get access to better guns that can be upgraded to improve their effectiveness.
    These are issues that its not fair to criticize because they are done that way on purpose. It was the intent to improve your characters abilities and the bike and the weapons, so that they become a non issue. When I first started playing I had the same issues (gas usage, clunky combat)...but as I got deeper I began to notice that ALL these issues got better as I got skills and upgraded the bike & weapons. By late game, they were much better than in the beginning. The game layers these things so that you get better as you progress.
    Also, the game was inconsistent in terms of frame-rate, but the game has since been patched to improve things quite a bit. The very same was true with the Witcher 3, which got patched and now runs way better. Of course this video came out before the patch that finally fixed much of the issues, but I wanted to say that it runs much better now (for anyone who sees this video now).

      Just because something is intentional doesn’t mean it gets an automatic pass. If something is clunky and feels like crap, then it’s clunky and it feels like crap AND it was a bad design decision. There are tons of different ways a game can limit your characters effectiveness in combat that don’t feel bad to play. Games have been doing it for decades just fine. So if it was more immersive or something for the combat to initially, fine. Still doesn’t change the fact that it just kind of plain old sucks, purposeful or not.

    I have a few complaints with this review:
    1- By the end of the skill trees (you even praised how you feel character progress in your review) , shooting gets so much better and ammo is never a problem. Guns get more powerful too.
    2- If you start the game today, you'll be on 1.07 which pretty much fixes 85% of the performance bugs, not relevant by the time your review came out. Framedrops are fixed by like 90% (I started playing on release date 1.04)
    3- The motorcycle gets upgrades to the gas tank which substantially fixes the "low gas problem" in this review. (Im talking 10x the gas capacity of the initial state of the motorcycle)
    4- Freakers are amazing, they're not zombies, think more like "I am Legend" infected, hate the sun, behave differently depending on time of day and weather. Also, you learn what happened to them through missions, lore and collectibles, how they're always changing, the virus even affects animals.
    5- I found stealth not reliable at all on the second half of the game
    For me this is easily an 8.5 if you start playing today on the 1.07 patch.
    Cheers.

Like he was expecting the crosshair to bounce between heads like he was playing Osu. Currently watching TheRadBrad's playthrough, and I can say with all my heart that this game is not a 5/10. The lowest score I would give this is an 8/10, but that can jump up to a 9/10 once all the performance -stuff has been ironed out and once the horde mode arrives. Excited for the future of this game. Days Gone is incredibly flawed and I can’t really blame anyone for falling off the game in the opening hours before it really clicks, but despite this I found it compelling enough to finish and overall enjoyed it. It pales in comparison to the quality we’ve come to expect from Sony first party titles, but if you go in with the proper expectations and prepare for the myriad of rough edges, I think it’s worth atleast renting or picking up when it drops in price.

      The intro did feel really weird, I didn't think it was going to get much better, but after getting the bike upgraded at least once on every part you can experience a lot more without stopping because of fuel. The story, combat and exploration are solid, but I had plenty of texture pop in glitches, but with the amount of patches they've brought out already I'm sure it'll be a smoother game in time.

    The aiming can be improved by:
    1. Upgrading the shooting skills and using the slow motion.
    2. Keeping the distance from the enemy while shooting.
    3. Learning the attack behavior of the freakers. They have pattern - moving not straight, but a little bit around the cirсle when they not very close.
    4. Using controller that can be programmed. So it helps you to tune the sticks right that your aiming will be much smoother.
    5. When you start to aim, make sure that the cross will appear on the enemy or near.
    6. Try to aim always in the head.
    With all of this I personally enjoy the shooting, using it all the time and wish this for all of you

    Pacing of both story and progression is not designed to win you over, it is desinged to be satisfying over an entire playthrough. This cpealry did no favours to critics that either didn't actually finish the game (ign) or critics that made up their mind too early.

    • @Yomom12388
      @Yomom12388 3 года назад

      This makes no sense at all? A well written and paced story with good progression wins you over from the beginning and engages you consistently throughout until the end. Critics maybe should push through a game until the very end. Regular people, however, have no such obligations. If your game doesn’t grab people, you can’t expect people to play it until the end.

      The feeling of being stranded on a bike when you are out of fuel was great. You suddenly realize how large the world is when you can't blast through it on a bike and it really makes you appreciate when you find fuel, fill up the tank and go on the road again.

    • @shurik121
      @shurik121 3 года назад

      Also, it's not very difficult to get fuel even in the beginning if you plan your ride. When you get even the first upgrade to the fuel tank, the problem mostly disappears because you can always refuel at camps and you almost always have enough to ride from one to another.
      Plan your rides is what I'm saying, especially in the beginning.

      Exactly. One of the best games I've EVER played - and I have played a shit load... And the gas system could have used a LITTLE work IMO - like the bike should have started off with a larger gas tank. Other than that, the system did what it was SUPPOSED to - which is provide a GAME mechanic.

    • @superjoule6277
      @superjoule6277 5 лет назад +1

      @@tefugaming1277 I kinda disagree with the tank being too small. It might just be me, I'm an elitist, dark souls & starcraft 2 are my go to games, so I hate games gift wrapping stuff for me. I always play on the hardest difficulty because I want to truly beat the game, not the baby version of it.
      So for me, that system was just fantastic. Always made me a bit nervous and made me calculate how far I could fast travel, it also made the bike a HUGE priority. I was like: Oh this is fucked. I was in the middle of nowhere, no gas, no nothing. Not even ammo, all I had was my crossbow and boot knife. Night time, no fast travel. Took me ages to get back to iron mikes.
      That said and done, what that experience stood out, lesson learned also. Never happened again.

      TEFU Gaming haha, yeah maybe. The thing I found most unrealistic was the distances. The map is like 4km? Or something like that in height. But, obviously its way bigger. They made it that way because if not 1m would be extremely short for when youre walking.

    Technically what Bend has done with this game, while reducing file size from 60 to 38g, and running at a solid 4K 60 on PS5 is something we usually don’t get. Amidst all the hate Days Gone got, some deserved most not in my opinion, Bend kept working and this is now a must play on PS5. It’s a shame this is not getting a sequel, I found this game more enjoyable and better voice acted and written than say, Horizon Zero Dawn, which by the end of that one, I was slugging through just to complete it. Yet Horizon is a centerpiece next gen sequel and Days Gone got pegged.
