thank you for making my purchase of the kenwood head unit better! I was really overwhelmed with all the settings. I am now confident that I can make the most of my new head unit!!! Thank you for taking the time to explain to us NOOBS!
I just installed 10” kenwood and JL audio C1’s all around along with tweeters. It was sounding better than stock for sure but was definitely not optimal. followed this video and The sound quality in the car is totally insane now. Can go so much louder and maintain excellent quality. Great video
Just wanted you to know that this video is the only one that has actually explained anything to me . I've got this system in a car that was a gift abd I CAN HARDLY USE IT AT ALL AT THIS POINT!!! lol It will get better but just thanking you for making a video that I can follow....
the explanation on what adjusts bass treble and mids on an eq finally helped me figure out how to tune my system properly. im gonna be busy the next few hours thats for sure. great video, definitely earned a like
I just set my Front, Back and Subwoofer with those settings you showed. HPF and other settings. I never knew my 3 years old Kenwood 418 BT and JBL can have cool sounds!!! Thank you very much for sharing!
I started building car stereos in 1990. Rockford Fosgate, Pioneer, Kenwood and Alpine were top of the line.. I still own my old equipment and am very happy I added this head unit to my old school Rockford Fosgate amps in my pickup! Yes it took my old school brain a couple days to tweek the settings to the sound quality Standards I set for myself... But was it ever worth every minute!
Thank you, so much for this presentation. I have a different Kenwood, but all the bells and whistles are the same, and now I can maybe set this up with a little more clue as to what I'm doing. I found a lot of very helpful information here, including the battery disconnect. Painfully aware of THAT!. I see the list of stereos this pertains to, and would like to add the JVC/Kenwood KW-V240BT to that list, as well.
This video is very good. I just got the Kenwood 967s installed in my car. Little more advanced than what is shown here but only because of the rr1 that was installed. The sound if not tampered with is pretty good to start. Once you take the time to set up the dta and eq the system becomes nothing short of amazing thx sound quality. These units are like having a built in DSP minus a few extras a dsp offers it still preforms well in the car. Once the DSP has done it's job the quality of sound is something you would expect in a very high end luxury car and can be better than most mid range to higher end home systems.
Awesome explanation! You are a gentleman and a scholar! Around the 9 min mark when adjusting the slope, you were saying 12db but set it on 24, which is it, ( for the video purpose that is ) ty
This is why yall are 5 star !!! Just got a new radio & mad cause my old one crap out but yall help big time still not the same as the old one but will work for now i hate these new small radios !
Time correction is the most important feature, on any car stereo. The problem is, that not many people know how to use it. And to make matters worse, no one on RUclips explains it properly.
I have one of these 4 years now no issues at all ...I have a huyundi getz with stock factory speakers..I only have a 600 pioneer mono blick and a 12 in the boot...the settings once right makes it sound like a really expensive set up.the bass is the best from slope settings. Time alignment and in audio settings get them right I have trouble turning it right up cause I get a back massage from seat plus revision mirror shakes and can hardly make out what things are and even bluref vision sometimes...it's this unit been doing units since 1998.hooking up amps and subs and setting gains for mates back then and nothing so far is anywhere as good as this has to me...I can't wait to get the next latest one so I can Bluetooth maps RUclips video TV channels basically a tablet /car stereo....I still love how clean the sound is and how basic iv done it ...all ya need for massive bass ...is a awesome unit eg.kenwood ddx as long as front door speakers are still in good nick if not 80 bux will buy a decent pioneer 6 inch front doors no tweeters plz...and a amp to power system up and sub .and ya 100 dolla cables pkt...hook all that up properly and tune unit .may take a week to get perfect sound for you but for under 1000 dollars all up ...people have said that the getz stereo isn't that lower in bass etc then a full 2 12 and front door with tweeters .6 by 9 in back and a 1000 watt amp running it all and this handy hatchback idea is all u need cause the car design makes it very nice compact sound and the bass rolls of perfectly......I'll b doing all mine like this from now on ....just front door speakers that's all ya need for singing and instruments all bass comes from back with eq setting 3 bass at far bottom 3 treble all way to top.and mid one up one down of the centre line.x overs are bit different .car to car but not that hard to find out which one sounds best ...awesome video guys....love the way u help try them settings on mine and them ones arnt far off mine so I'll try these for front door speakers. May fade back out not sure yet there only 2 stock factory for back seat passengers...jeff
Dudes!!! Thanks ah ton!!! I somehow lost my owners manual after purchasing this radio from Best buy. So like any other internet guru I googled the radio model. To unfortunately find that none of the info you gave, in that manual. 🤔 Fortunately you guys must have had this issue yourselves or a question about it. Either way, again thanks ah bunch!!!
how can i adjust the q factor on the kenwood ddx8019 or explain what the q factor is and what difference it makes if i am using a eq that then splits my output to front rear and subwoofers
I got this deck and watched the video very helpful, went from the Kenwood hd262u. I loved this deck but wanted Bluetooth. igot tired of the aux cable. awesome deck I had major sound from it. I have Rockford speakers in the doors and sub powered by 600watt amp. I cant get the same sound. the front speakers are at about half the volume as before Ive played with the time alignment and fader but cant seem to find that old powerful sound I love. any ideas?
Man I've been really enjoying my Clarion NX702 for so many year and just keep upgrading the maps yearly for the GPS but that Kenwood does look nice!!!!!!!
How does stage EQ actually work though? Is it some kind of time delay on frequency’s below 1khz so that the midbass driver is better time aligned with the tweeter? When I turn it on I notice the music sharpens up a lot! With it off Sibilance is rather blurred and muffled but with it on the treble and sibiliane is much more defined, snare drum cuts through the track better too with more impact.
If you have subwoofer conected in your sound system , let the all function of loadanes, bassboost, been off, level, the Equaluzer set you in zero , use only the crossower Good luck folks
Excellent video!! My son has just purchased his first vehicle and it has the 276BT installed. We are having a problem with the volume going down as he drives the car. I thought there may be an active volume or noise compensator that is out of whack, but I’m not finding that feature. Any insight?
Good videos guys. Speaking of the time correction. I got to playing with my ILX-007 and I had no idea the impact time correction has on the over all sound. You can really change the soundstage. It's nice that companies are baking this into their products now. I installed by first car stereo in 1991 and times have sure changed since then. As for bass boost. You sure are right. Fart.
First thanks for sharing this info and second I have that same head unit and could you tell me what sub and amp I could use with this unit my door speakers are 6.25 kickers rated at 240peak could you help please thanks
I have 2 Kenwood Excelon DDX396 in 2 different vehicles. On one unit the Space enhancer and Supreme settings are greyed out and will not all to turn them on. Ay ideas? maybe flash or reset the system? By the way, your videos are excellent and informative. I was curios how that tweeter setting worked when there is no separate channel for them.
i have the ddx-396. if i raise any of my eq freq levels roughly into the 3/4 or more zone (+3db - +9db) it literally cuts my sound in half. like i hit the att. button. what's that all about? not only that, but when i select to go into any of the menus, it takes a second or 2 to come up.. cool features but buggy imo.
Might need to pick one of these up, liking all those options.... Thanks for yet another fine video, oh and I hope the fingers are healing nicely. LOL, watch them blades man.....
I love your videos. I was hoping you could help answer a few questions for me. I have two 8 in skar Midrange speakers on both of my front doors and a skar amp pushing them that has a switch for full range or hpf. Should I have it set to hpf? That's what I have it at now? Also there's two frequency setting knobs one for subsonic and one regular crossover freq knob what should I set those at? The speakers I think frequency range goes as low as 90hz. I also have one JL audio c3 6.5 on both front doors with the tweets. I'm wanting the JL speakers to play 80hz and above will I mess up the sound stage if the skars are crossed over at 90hz? Also I have The JL speakers are being powered by a JL amp which I have crossed over at 80 hz. Just so you know what I am working with.
How do I set the tweeter xover if it's a component set and the tweet is powered off the 6.5? I'm guessing just set it for the 6 1/2 xover? I have alpine type r components and the tweeters get powered by the woofers, and a crossover of course
Idk if my radio is hooked up right but when I use the calling feature, ppl can't hear me when I talk and my visual settings don't save when I turn my car off. Can someone pls help?
Hopefully you'll respond. Setting up the xover, I would imagine would only adjust to a "user" setting. I had my deck on Rock, and played with the settings and just ruined the sound. Ended up resetting the stereo... Helpful hints?
how do you increase stage width and depth with independent left and right EQ with a pioneer 80 prs? Given the speaker location, deadening, absorption, time alignment, power, speaker level volumes and current smooth sounding EQ curve are all on point. Phantom center stage is already achieved but the sound is still stuck in the dash and sail panel. I've heard soundstages where the music sounds like its coming from the hood of the vehicle and a few feet beyond the side mirrors.
thanks for the info ...that was great I just got a dnx693s it auto dimes when the light of car goes on but the gps does not its still really bright .I see no setting for that in setup or gps settings
Hi I just recently picked up the ddx9903s and was wondering about the screen mirroring for iPhone (controlling the phone from the radio.) also my buddy has the same radio and is having problems with his screen mirroring on his android not working.
I'm getting a bit lost on the xover settings, Is it just EQing the signal. seeing as there are only 4 outputs? I dont get how it can be a xover when it just piles all the signals into one output. Im using a passive crossover. I dont know if I should set the head unit to have the same frequency slopes
Hi, some consultation. i just bought a KMM BT303, it has pretty much the same settings that you have described, but only with 1-DIN. After installed, i found that my rear speaker is OFF, i can only hear front spearkers. Do you now why ? i checked the FADER, to move front and back, basically can only hear front speakers, and rear totally silence. Please help.
Can someone help clarify something for me regarding the time alignment? If I'm understanding what he said, if my front left speaker is 2 feet from me and my front passenger speaker is 4 feet from me, the number I enter into the Kenwood for the front passenger is "2" correct? If I'm tuning for the rear right passenger, which is 4 1/2 from me, then I enter "2 1/2" into the Kenwood for that speaker?
I turned the bass all of the way down, and it made no difference and is still painful to my ears. Don't know if I'm missing something else, as I've watched only a fraction of this video. I also cannot for the life of me understand what is being said at 1:29. EDIT: Thank you for the section on the subwoofer! That is a lifesaver, and I finally don't have to deal with painful bass anymore!
You forgot to discuss the "Bass EXT" in the equilizer menu. (Although you accidentally bumped it, lol) Bass EXT: (Bass Extend Settings). When turned on, the frequency lower than 62.5 Hz is set to the same gain level as 62.5 Hz. Loudness.
I've got a kdc-bt600u running splits front and rear and twin 12s in the back all amped , I have 2 questions: should I use the 2 way or 3 way X over function? And should I set the subwoofer size as 30cm or 38 and over because there's 2 of them? (I'm in Australia so its in metric) Cheers Mark
im going to get one of these. i plan on running the front channels for some 4 inch tweeters and the rear for the 6.5s all going to a 4 channel amp. both being mounted on the front doors. should i still get a pre amp crossover or should this and the amps crossover adjustments be good enough.
In Car setting for speaker location which selection would you select for a Jeep JKU. Curious because they have an odd speaker set up with the speaker bar and dash speakers. I selected SUV but, maybe this is the wrong set up. Any Ideas?
TheWilliam1122 yeah the Jeep is a tuff one. I would just try getting the front to sound good. In a Jeep I keep the rears as low as possible. Just a slight fill.
Any idea why volume decreases when I use the eq? Natural is nice and loud all other pre sets supress the sound. I'm sure it's something I have done but I cannot figure it out.
Maybe not related but I have a DMX7704S in a 2011 chevy traverse and it has tweeters in the pillar, my question is should I use a two-way speaker and keep the tweeter or unhook it. Or should I use a mid and replace the tweeter with a better one. I do have a 10 inch powered sub in the rear.
+Jeff Brown I would go with replacing the tweeter. We have 2 options we give 1 go with a nice set of separate speakers. Tweeter/midrange combo. 2 a coaxial speaker and an add on tweeter. Personally I like number one for sound quality. 2 is for if you just want loud.
Five Star Car Stereo thank you,St thing have you played with the Kenwood DMX7704S or what do you think of it as I still have e time to return it. It seems to be a pretty nice unit just don't know if not having a disk will work.
What cross over settings do you recommend me putting on my car. I have 2 pair of 6x8 door speakers on the front side of car and another 2 pair of 6x8 speakers on the rear deck. I have no subwoofers tweeters. I like some bass in my music. If you can answer this for me I would greatly appreciate it.
Hi i have 2 ds18 tweeters but want to tone down how loud there are and here more my midrange speaker. Should I focus on 1.5khz to 20khz for the tweeters
Hi Guys Nice RUclips Channerl. Congratulations for your Unboxing. I have Question. I have a Mazda 3 2013, How is the best Quality and Esthetic Car Radio Adapter for this application. Metra? American International? Scosche?
Hello I have been researching a new sound system for my 2007 cls63amg. I have the factory Hk system. I plan on rewiring the entire car, new amps, speakers, etc. what is the appropriate harness for my car for an aftermarket stereo. Do I even need one?
Three years later and still as relevant as ever, wish I could like twice.
Six years later and still is. I liked it for you.
Seven years later. Still relevant. I also liked it for you

love your videos. Every time I have a question you guys have answered it. Thank you!
You walked me through this radio equalizer so thoroughly. Thank you so much!
Can you explain the 7 inner mid settings are those for instruments?? Or just keep all those flat?
Great setting menu options. Love the "save" feature. That is such a pain to have to redo all of my custom setup. Great job!
Tim datoolman yes that is the one feature the NEX radios don't have that is so painful
I had this eq now im getting it for my new truck cause once you experience that sound quality difference you can never go back to factory
Great vid guys.. i noticed that HU settings are almost identical to my KW-v430bt.. JVC.. great radios !
Many thanks for a really good video. Minor adjustments to my JVC settings and the system sounds better! Keep up the good work! JMc from Big D!
how can i adjust the q factor on the kenwood ddx8019 or explain what the q factor is and what difference it makes if i am using a eq that then splits my output to front rear and subwoofers

RIGHT !! Me too
Thanks I have a KW-V340BT have been wondering how to lower the bass and raise the Treble for a long time now I can do just that
Man I've been really enjoying my Clarion NX702 for so many year and just keep upgrading the maps yearly for the GPS but that Kenwood does look nice!!!!!!!
How does stage EQ actually work though? Is it some kind of time delay on frequency’s below 1khz so that the midbass driver is better time aligned with the tweeter? If you have subwoofer conected in your sound system , let the all function of loadanes, bassboost, been off, level, the Equaluzer set you in zero , use only the crossower
Good luck folks
Excellent video!! My son has just purchased his first vehicle and it has the 276BT installed. We are having a problem with the volume going down as he drives the car. I thought there may be an active volume or noise compensator that is out of whack, but I’m not finding that feature. Any insight?

K Ruth haha, yeah. Yes time correction is definitely awesome.
Thanks for this video I have one of these kenwood stereo and was wondering how to save the settings thank you
The guy talking did a great job.
Great video, one question, when changing crossovers on the deck, how does this relate to the amp settings and where should they be ?
We recommend picking one, amp or radio, and turn the other off
First thanks for sharing this info and second I have that same head unit and could you tell me what sub and amp I could use with this unit my door speakers are 6.25 kickers rated at 240peak could you help please thanks

Do you have any for SUV'z or is it a "play" with it for your enjoyment? GREAT tutorial either way!! Thanks for the video!!
Seen the ecko shirt. Had to check the year
lmao😂😂😂
Another good video! 👍
Thanks for all the great information!!
Might need to pick one of these up, liking all those options.... Thanks for yet another fine video, oh and I hope the fingers are healing nicely. LOL, watch them blades man.....
jmaslin thanks, yeah 9 and 3/4 kind of sucks
Awesome video...keep up the good work!!!
Given how complex the in radio crossovers have become, do you still prefer to use external crossovers or does it depend on the system?
Thanks guys! Very informative!!!
I love your videos. I was hoping you could help answer a few questions for me. Brian Miles yes it is, thanks
Would a crew cab truck (F150) be about the same as a full-size car for the car setting?
How do I set the tweeter xover if it's a component set and the tweet is powered off the 6.5? I'm guessing just set it for the 6 1/2 xover? I have alpine type r components and the tweeters get powered by the woofers, and a crossover of course

Jeff DaChef hours of listening and tuning
Five Star Car Stereo been a year and a half of messing around lol. might be just system limits of the drivers or might need to get a dsp
Jeff DaChef probably system limits, a DSP is not the end all be all. Better speakers and power
Mind to share, for 7 band eq setup for sound quality in car entertainment.
I am using Pioneer Dehp640
Thanks for this video this the deck I got and I was so lost
How do you get the futures too stop popping up?
thanks for the info ...that was great I just got a dnx693s it auto dimes when the light of car goes on but the gps does not its still really bright .I see no setting for that in setup or gps settings
Garry templeman page 12 in the navigation instructions say to go to display settings in the Garmin menu. Go to Color mode- day , night, or Auto
Hi I just recently picked up the ddx9903s and was wondering about the screen mirroring for iPhone (controlling the phone from the radio.) also my buddy has the same radio and is having problems with his screen mirroring on his android not working.
Appreciate this big brother
What head units have the best crossover features you've found?
I'm getting a bit lost on the xover settings, Is it just EQing the signal. seeing as there are only 4 outputs? I dont get how it can be a xover when it just piles all the signals into one output.
Im using a passive crossover. I dont know if I should set the head unit to have the same frequency slopes
Hi, some consultation. i just bought a KMM BT303, it has pretty much the same settings that you have described, but only with 1-DIN. Quick question will the eq and crossover setting work for my speaker if speaker are running fo the amp instead of the deck
I wish someone would explain what subwoofer level is instead of just pointing it out
BTW if you could tell me how to clear the preset channels that I also operate on my steering wheel....that would be AWESOME...LOL!
(Although you accidentally bumped it, lol)
Bass EXT: (Bass Extend Settings). When turned on, the frequency lower than 62.5 Hz is set to the same gain level as 62.5 Hz. Loudness.
HELP! I got the ddx25bt and even though it is wired into the vehicle correctly, ALL of the cars speakers play from the stereos rear output..
And what happens if you turn off the car setting? Dsp wiil be off and your sound will turn "stereo" on front an rear speakers???
kenwood salesman of the year
I've got a kdc-bt600u running splits front and rear and twin 12s in the back all amped , I have 2 questions: should I use the 2 way or 3 way X over function? And should I set the subwoofer size as 30cm or 38 and over because there's 2 of them? (I'm in Australia so its in metric)
Cheers Mark
thank you for explaining this!
can you make a video like this from the alpine icx930D ?
im going to get one of these. i plan on running the front channels for some 4 inch tweeters and the rear for the 6.5s all going to a 4 channel amp. both being mounted on the front doors. should i still get a pre amp crossover or should this and the amps crossover adjustments be good enough.
You will still need a crossover on the tweeter because the radios does not go up high enough.
I dont want to use the car settings so should i turn it off ? I want to set all my crossovers on my amp
Very helpful Thx👍

My dnx893s speaker/crossover is not funtional that option is not lit anymore, help please.
I got a Kenwood excelon before the digital touch screen, the first 3 setting is bass last 3 treble what does the 7 mid stages stand for?
You answered your own question 🤷♂️ "mid range"
In Car setting for speaker location which selection would you select for a Jeep JKU. Curious because they have an odd speaker set up with the speaker bar and dash speakers. I selected SUV but, maybe this is the wrong set up. Any Ideas?
TheWilliam1122 yeah the Jeep is a tuff one. I would just try getting the front to sound good. In a Jeep I keep the rears as low as possible. Just a slight fill.
ok could you do a video like this for us guys with the avh model or would this concept work enough to apply from video instructions
Ghost Face we have them check these out

Any idea why volume decreases when I use the eq? Natural is nice and loud all other pre sets supress the sound. I'm sure it's something I have done but I cannot figure it out.
2 yrs later, but have u found out what's going on with the volume muting when increasing the eq?
How do I unlock x over and cross over, same exact radio
Leonel Delacruz you might be able to get them to respond to 63hz, I wouldn't go any lower, I recommend getting a sup and amp though,
You can read the box/paperwork that came with the speakers 🤷♂️
Great vid!
great vid still in 2022
Kenwood FTW 👈😎👉👍✌️ out
Hi i have 2 ds18 tweeters but want to tone down how loud there are and here more my midrange speaker. Should I focus on 1.5khz to 20khz for the tweeters
Turn down from 5k to 12.5k
Oh OK and to make my midrange louder should I adjust from 100 to 13000hz . That's the frequency response for my speakers

Moises Ayala it may be a standard plug behind the radio, but it will only have power and ground. The rest is DIY your own wire.go slow and take notes
Thank you. Love your channel.
Moises Ayala let us know how it goes
