This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). Hi Rynno Haha.....they got you......I could see it in your eyes......even in a video.....they did their magic....... Everyone of the band is an absolute master of their instrument...... Tuomas( keys) composes 99,99% of their songs.....he is called the Metal-Mozart. The GODDESS is the greatest female voice I heard in my 68 years on that planet ! Once an reactor said: You can take out everyone of this band and put him into another....that would automatically make the band five times better !!!!!! Greetings from Wisconsin.🤘I had the privilege of seeing them live in Denver in 2022 as part of the North American leg of the world tour for their Human :||: Nature album released in 2020. The tour was delayed by COVID. My trip to see them in Denver involved a 14 hour round trip drive from Utah and a hotel stay. It was worth every penny, and then some. Unfortunately the relatively small size of their fan base in the US necessitates smaller venues and less extravagant shows then they do in some other parts of the world (Europe, South America, etc.). But the smaller venue in Denver and the relatively simple stage show didn't detract at all from the experience, at least for me. I'm glad I got to see them when I did, as they have put an indefinite hold on touring. They haven't given a reason, but I'm ok with it. They need a break. BTW, their latest album, "Yesterwynde", was released less than a month ago and there are 4 singles with music videos from it on their channel. They are better live, but the studio stuff is awesome as well. There are _a lot_ of live performances of songs from past albums on RUclips. Floor Jansen (the singer in this video) joined the band in 2012, so any performances before that will be with one of their previous singers. As others have said, this is a deep rabbit hole. But I'll be right there as you explore it. New sub here.

Yesterwynde would be difficult to tour, While I like the album its not my favourite, Im not a fan of Troys singing, I wish they would give Jukka a chance, get back to metal.

Nightwish are from Finland, the singer, Floor Jansen is from The Netherlands and the sixth band member, Troy Donockley is a multi instrumentalist from the UK. Not present in this or several songs at this concert. There have been two previous lead singers, Tarja Turunen (1996-2005 operatic ) and Anette Olzon ( 2007-2012 pop) but only Floor can sing all of the Nightwish songs as is obvious at this concert when all songs were written for those previous singers. Not world music (other than the fact that it's European rather than American). The genre is Symphonic Metal. It features, in my view, the greatest singer in pop/rock/metal alive today - the glorious Floor Jansen. Nightwish formed in Finland in 1996. The current lineup consists of 4 Finnish guys, 1 Englishman and Floor who is Dutch. It's not an organ - the pipe thing is just a cool keyboard stand which has electronic keyboards behind it. Originally Floor was sent by Allfather Odhinn to Midgard to gather the souls of fallen warriors to Valhalla, but she got distracted and joined a series of bands. Nightwish are from Finland, the singer, Floor Jansen is from The Netherlands and the sixth band member, Troy Donockley is a multi instrumentalist from the UK. Not present in this or several songs at this concert. There have been two previous lead singers, Tarja Turunen (1996-2005 operatic ) and Anette Olzon ( 2007-2012 pop) but only Floor can sing all of the Nightwish songs as is obvious at this concert when all songs were written for those previous singers. Hi Rynno - great to see another convert to the experience that is Nightwish. And as much as I love Ghost Love Score there are so many other songs to react to, and each has at least one "What the....." moment. And I defy you to pick a favourite (UK spelling giving me away here) Nightwish song, for as we all know, whatever Nightwish song you are currently listening to is your favourite.....

Not world music (other than the fact that it's European rather than American). The genre is Symphonic Metal. It features, in my view, the greatest singer in pop/rock/metal alive today - the glorious Floor Jansen. Nightwish formed in Finland in 1996. The current lineup consists of 4 Finnish guys, 1 Englishman and Floor who is Dutch. It's not an organ - the pipe thing is just a cool keyboard stand which has electronic keyboards behind it. Welcome to the world of Nightwish.

got distracted and joined a series of bands. However, Floor still gathers souls by her grace, beauty and the sheer power
of her vocals.
We give thanks for her at our Blots regularly and hope that Odhinn won't notice that she has never returned to Asgard.

It's 2024 and still epic........props to the orchestra, the band and the chorus ( or choir ) singers for adding to Floor's amazing vocals.....symphonic metal at its best🤟this is a truly difficult composition and score to perform........... so many key and tempo changes 🎶 thank you Nightwish and Floor...........is that a hint of the "Carmina Burana" in there ?.........
