Just a word of caution- Silkies and Polish may struggle with the cold weather make sure they stay dry or else when it gets cold they may freeze because they are not water proof-
If you want to expand the main flock- Silkies go broody like clockwork.
But it’s a lovely breed for your children to watch, play with, and look after ❤

Silkies are one of breeds that are more prone to diseases Because of their fluffy like fur feathers you must assure that they don't get wet, they also don't like hot weather.

I love those chicken I was just looking at a white created Polish chickens 😍 they are my favorite.
The aware that the white crest are so hard to keep white. Get them used to taking bath early in life. Mine was ok with letting me rinse her but you need to be able to turn them upside down under the faucet to get the front clean and my baby would get too stressed for that mess, so her nickname was Dirty Birdie 4:23 😂😂

Sadly these coops and runs are not at all predator proof. Rats, mice and raccoons can reach right in and grab a chicken. Most of these coops are made to be under a shelter or inside a barn. The metal tray for cleaning the coop will over time warp, rust and not work. I wouldn't house more than say 5 chickens in that coop . They do work great for raising chicks that you are acclimating to outdoors. You would be better off building a wooden coop with an attached run for your silkies that is more predator proof. None of the coop is insulated for cold winter temps either. I hope and pray nothing happens to your daughters chickens while in this coop. Please watch for predators digging under the run as well.
I was concerned about the predators too, especially since raccoons paws can fit through the cage wires and you have proof that raccoons are in your immediate area.
@@angelanice It amazes me that they sell these types of cages for chickens. Yes it looks cute and that's where it ends. Once you start raising backyard/ homestead animals it's guaranteed that the predators will come. Imagine if a Bear showed up, that coop would be like a toy for it.

Since the new coup is in the Sun--would you please put a themometer inside the coup--those plastics can get over a hundred degrees in the sun?
I havent felt any issues with it at all, it does a great job staying cool

They don’t have issue with it being hot because it is made of wood with an iron frame and run, the roof is asphalt. I just bought one recently and it is not plastic or flimsy/

I bought the next size bigger 900+ at Tractor Supply....it's been great for 7 hens...I am 5'10 tall enough for me to stand in pen and coop...cross bars add a spot for hanging water and feed...yours is cute...
Its more sturdy then i thought it would be and ours seems like it will hold very well
