I had chickens all my life, I can promise you, the feeling of a the first egg from a batch of chicks never goes away 😂. We are always like “no way! They laid an egg!!” It’s so funny

Your intro brought me to tears. Tired of seeing the world fall. Working on climbing my way to a homestead so I can build a place to ensure everything you said. Just made me a bit emotional. Thanks for the video.
Oh Tom what a Beautiful Video. What a Wonderful documentation of your family's journey. Great job! You are meant to be doing exactly what you are doing. God has a plan for you. Thank you for all you do. ❤
Thank you very much! It means a lot, there has been many struggles during all of this but we both feel like this is what we were suppose to do and it feels great do be on this journey and not knowing where it will take us
Great video! I was so sad too when your baby goats died 😢 WE recently bought a bottle fed baby goat and lamb, and I love them so much! We have a second lamb coming in another week. Bottle feeding them is so sweet, I will be so very sad if nature was to take any of my animals, but I will never stop trying to raise them.
Great video! We’re on a similar journey. Coming into our third year and just got our first meat chickens, it’s so surreal bc we always talked about living this way one day and now we’re here and doing it, it’s such a rewarding way to live. ❤❤ May God continue to guide and bless your family. 😊
Sat down with husband and 3 kiddos to watch this video! Really enjoyed it❤ Hope you guys give goats another try in Spring ! May God continue to bless your family!
It’s great that you cried. If you cried all the time I’d feel for you but tears of joy show you care and are appreciative for your blessings. You be you. It’s amazing that you’re doing so well. Thank you for being real.
We just recently bought some land and started our homestead journey and have had quite a few set backs this week. Watching this gave me renewed hope and inspiration, thank you and got bless on your homestead journey!!
Obviously homesteading could be quite involving but the results is normally worth the time. How I wish there was land enough for everyone to live like this if they want to. Greetings from Ghana 🇬🇭
What an incredible presentation of how you came to be a homesteader. This is my favorite video on the topic by far, and I’ve seen quite a few by now. I wish many blessings onto your family and community, and may your path on this journey be ever fruitful!
Great video! I hope you don’t mind me asking but did you ever find out what happened to your goats? I experienced something similar and I think it got bloat from eating too much hay. The vet would have known if it was bloat though as their tummy puffs up.
Great video and lots of learning. I’m not able to have the chickens or other animals due to where I live, but I can certainly grow my own food. We have lettuce, tomatoes, bell peppers, snap peas, zucchini, herbs, green onions, and I’m trying my hand at celery and potatoes. I’m getting ready to plant cucumbers, carrots, green beans and more lettuce as well as more herbs. It has been nice to eat what we are growing. - Sue in AZ
You came to the same conclusion many have, including me and my wife same journey just different story we all need to rely more on ourselves and neighbors instead of relying on the grocery store which we all have seen can end in disaster. We wish to have several acres like you one day but for now we have a 10,900 sqft lot that we use and my uncle 15 acres for meat birds and hopefully in future Cow and Goat meat production. Welcomed our first born daughter into the world this year 27 week old is now 5 weeks corrected and thriving. God bless you and your family and thank you for making these videos cataloging your journey.

You crushed it with the intro. I've been building a homestead and I would die to have just 1% of what some people on YT have in equipment and resources. Doing it on my budget it will take me the rest of my life to leave my kids something good enough to start off with and grow from. The carbon footprint of the "look at me" homesteaders is as big as the footprint homesteading is supposed to eliminate.

I appreciate your transparency in everything you did the qst time. God bless you on this journey we call life. You have a beautiful family . Sharing your wife having labor brought me back memories of my sons birth made my eyes water with joy. I appreciate all you have shared and look forward to watching your journey on homesteading . Thanks my friend till the next one.
I really liked your video. You touched some points that are still difficult for me. The processing of an animal you grow. I like most people I’m used to thinking of them as pets, but I really would like to do it as a business. I also relate to your triumphs and failures of gardening, which amounts to joy and learning. Gardening “failures”make me more interested in trying again , not discouraged. Great video
Great video and summary of the adventure. I’ve gardened and preserved vegetables for years. During Covid I learned how to can meat. Last year we hatched our own chicks and now have 22 hens and are down to three roosters from 8 (yes we got more than a 50/50). We have processed 4 of the roosters now. However we recently hatched 15 of our own chickens offspring so the cycle continues. We get enough eggs for every family member and friends. Starting the planning process to move to larger acreage for retirement years. Self sufficient is a must in this day and time but it is definitely a process that takes time. It’ll probably be a 7-10 year transition but we look forward to spending more time doing this lifestyle and less in the rat race of commercialism. Keep up the good work. I wish I could have started young like you and raised my children in this life but better late than never.
Awesome video! Very interesting! You gave me all the answers those were in my mind. Love it. Wish the best for your family. Keep up the good work. I will watch you. Thanks.
I hear you!! I started out just wanting to grow a few veggies in my backyard. What seemed simple, later required me to think through the growing process of what grew and what didn't (you learn to let go in order to move on). But, I had the time of my life just being able to walk to the backyard and plan a meal. I ate better and got a lot of sunshine!! I'm now into my second year and expanded my beds for even more food. It's a great feeling... so I hear you!!
I've never raised goats, but I have raised sheep from babies. Some survive some don't. There isn't always any reason. It's a world wide farmer saying "where have livestock, you'll have dead stock". It's tough, but keep focusing on the blessings your hard work is reaping.
Loved it My family and I live in Central America ( Nicaragua) we live in Managua city life, but we have our own chickens and have raised our own pigs and love it
Thanks for your videos! We are not new homesteaders but your videos are such great and joyful reminders of new beginnings and hope for future generations. All that said, we are new to having a dog on our homestead. It looks like you had larger dogs before getting your chickens. What advice would you give us? Our dog is a big 80# loving guy that we adopted from the shelter a couple weeks ago. But he chased the chickens on day one. We would like to continue to allow our ladies to free range without concern that Bruno will harass them. Thanks @acresofadventure for any advice you can offer.
God bless you and your family for putting this video together. This is something my wife and i are praying for the opportunity to start. So insightful and emotional. 2020 was also something that shook us and life has never been the same. A blessing in disguise.
Wonderful video,Thankyou, we lost 2 baby goats when we got our first goats many yrs ago, they come with mothers, they all had anemia from a worm load, apparently they had been wormed before selling, but our vet said the worms had become immune to the same worm meds she’d been using . It really is heartbreaking, and you never forget ❤
My left ear really enjoyed the commentary :D All jokes and great video, if it happens again you can set the voiceover to "mono" instead of "stereo" when editing so that it's not on one side ;)
This is a very nice video. To be honest, I have been trying to move forward in this path, but the expenses are prohibitive. I watched your video and couldn't help wondering how did you do it financially.
I would recommend you grab a soil test kit from Redmond, it's fairly cheap and easy to use, and they tell you what all is in your soil, I used one for the first time this year and turns out my soil was just as bad as I thought it was... But at least I know what to do to fix it. Another thing to add to the very long list...
That egg moment, truly adorable and such a great feeling. Hello from Ontario. Awesome story and video folks. Much respect on the amount of work involved to create this.
Amazing video Tom. We started our journey around the same time and I feel everything you said. I lost a lot of chickens over the years and have had to put pigs down because nobody wanted them or they wouldn't get on the trailer to go to freezer camp and they were getting too big and dangerous to keep. It's been rough but I wouldn't change the experience for anything. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us, it really means a lot when we are ready to tear it all down. Then we come and see a beautiful family share their struggles with this lifestyle. I hope that the next set of goats you get will thrive under your care(I am sure they will!). I would love to see you raise another pair of pigs. You said some real truths about pigs that most people don't realize are truths. They are very smart and clean animals. I don't know why your pigs stunk, mine smelled better than my dogs! I would love to keep a few as pets, especially the Mangalitsa. My sow was half Mangalitsa, she was such a sweetheart. Anyway I am rambling. Thanks again for sharing my friend and God bless you and your family this year with a bountiful harvest!
Thank you so much for all of this, you have been watching our videos for a long time, probably when they were hard to watch since we didn’t know exactly what we were doing and still watch videos now today. We can’t say how much that means to us and we are happy to have you here and learn with you

I grew up in a rural farm community and in the country but it wasn’t until I was an adult that my family started raising our own food and it really is a steep learning curve but once you succeed the feeling of accomplishment becomes addictive ❤
Pigs shouldn't take 13 months to grow old, my husband and I would get piglets in the spring and butcher in the fall. If you want to know how we did it contact me.
Mangalista are slow growing, great to rear without too much input and produce incredible dark meat with just the right amount of marbling and fat..delicious.
@fionaworrell4535 when we raise several breeds of pigs they always had gran 24/7 we never changed water, grain on snot falls in water and eat as they drank. They were were well marbled with fat. Plus feed them kitchen scraps. Love watching you and your husband and kids very cute
My husband and I raised pigs for 20 years. They had over a quarter of a acre to roam on.we did our own butchering and the meat was well marbled and tasted great. We even smoked the hams hocks and bacon.
Thank you for this video! This all looks time consuming and expensive. Can you tell us if you or your wife maintained a job? What kind of income would you need to support this lifestyle? Do you make income from the garden or animals? If so how? thanks!
I also wondered this also. Not to be nosy but genuinely intrigued. I’d love it but myself working full time. How do you have the time for both. I’ve always wondered. I’d love to be out of the corporate world.
Love this. Love your content...what part of MI are you guys in? We are SW MI - making it a go, learning and growing each and everyday...it never stops. And we love it. Thank you for sharing.
Wonderful video… presents a lot to think about! Thank you for asking the hard questions and helping me consider the answers! The Lord’s Continued Blessings, Dear Family!!!
When we moved to the country we had meat and egg layers. My husband dispatched and picked the feathers Off. Our young son was bringing them 8. Where I gutted and cut them up. Not bad for a city raised girl. However our son ended up with campylobacter. I’m always aware to be clean and careful when handling raw chicken.
Thank you so much for this very honest video, we started our homestead 2 years ago, and running thru issues as well, that’s what homesteading is about. I do have a question for people like us, we have 5 Kune Kune pigs, would they be fine in the swampy woods too? Has anyone tried to sell pig manure? How would I advertise that? I was thinking of super nice sunflowers as we added the manure there, and those sunflowers were so big… thank you for all information
Omgossh seriously amazing video your videos always come at time when I’m ready to give up and you post a video like this that give me the confidence and courage to keep up my little homestead ❤God bless you and your family 🙏
Thank you so much for this video. It was so heartwarming. My favorite thing is that you always keep it real. You show the successes you show the not so successes and you just make it real. I have chickens and I've been trying to do some gardening here. This is so encouraging! Thank you thank you.
I had chickens all my life, I can promise you, the feeling of a the first egg from a batch of chicks never goes away 😂. We are always like “no way! They laid an egg!!” It’s so funny
My first set of chickens took 7 months to start laying. I will never forget the 1st egg I got! Now I drown in eggs and love every minute of it.
How many chickens you have?

@fionaworrell4535 when we raise several breeds of pigs they always had gran 24/7 we never changed water, grain on snot falls in water and eat as they drank. They were were well marbled with fat. Plus feed them kitchen scraps. Love watching you and your husband and kids very cute
Learn and don't experiment with meat.
My husband and I raised pigs for 20 years. They had over a quarter of a acre to roam on.we did our own butchering and the meat was well marbled and tasted great. We even smoked the hams hocks and bacon.
So I been homesteading longer than it's been a trend lol
Thank you for this video! This all looks time consuming and expensive. Can you tell us if you or your wife maintained a job? What kind of income would you need to support this lifestyle? Do you make income from the garden or animals? If so how? thanks!
I also wondered this also. Not to be nosy but genuinely intrigued. I’d love it but myself working full time. How do you have the time for both. I’ve always wondered. I’d love to be out of the corporate world.
helo everyone ! nice to miss you ? where you from ?

Wonderful video… presents a lot to think about! Thank you for asking the hard questions and helping me consider the answers! The Lord’s Continued Blessings, Dear Family!!!
When we moved to the country we had meat and egg layers. My husband dispatched and picked the feathers
Off. Our young son was bringing them 8. Where I gutted and cut them up. Not bad for a city raised girl. However our son ended up with campylobacter. I’m always aware to be clean and careful when handling raw chicken.
How many acres are you on at the moment?
Thank you so much for this very honest video, we started our homestead 2 years ago, and running thru issues as well, that’s what homesteading is about.
I do have a question for people like us, we have 5 Kune Kune pigs, would they be fine in the swampy woods too? Has anyone tried to sell pig manure? How would I advertise that? I was thinking of super nice sunflowers as we added the manure there, and those sunflowers were so big… thank you for all information
I love your chicken ❤👌🙏
Thank you so much for sharing your story!!! You have definitely had some ups and downs!!! God Bless Us All!!!

Thank you so much for this video. It was so heartwarming. My favorite thing is that you always keep it real. You show the successes you show the not so successes and you just make it real. I have chickens and I've been trying to do some gardening here. This is so encouraging! Thank you thank you.
Great video! Its been so fun to watch your family's homesteading journey. ❤
Absolutely wonderful video. Love your channel. GOD bless
Awesome....gd luck
Loved when I got to 10:51 on the tape. I smiled because I was so excited when I got my first egg. Glad I found y’all.
Nice job. Just a thought, I quarter my chickens. They stack in the freezer better...
