What I liked about this episode is how the numbers breakdown seemed to really shock them into reality. It seems they were oblivious to how much they were spending. Hope they got it together
My husband and I use one credit card so we can keep track of what we're charging and spending each month. When you have multiple cards you tend to lose track of what you're spending as it's $200 here, $80 there, etc. We also pay off what we owe every month. If our payment is steep one month we realize we've spent too much and need to look at where that money went.
I don't wait until the end of the month. I have multiple cards, but I track them on an Excel spread sheet and pay them off as soon as something posts (generally 2 days later.) The most important aspect is to have a working system so you don't lose track. My husband and I do the monthly budget each month and the money that is not going to bills is in a category labeled "discretionary" on the Excel spread sheet. We have three bank accounts - checking (regular bills and food/toiletries), savings, and Discretionary. They are all at the same bank, so as soon as we are paid, I move money from the checking to savings and discretionary. On my Discretionary column on my Excel spreadsheet, I put the figure at the top and then as unexpected expenses come in (like the $40 I had to pay for an additional treatment at the dentist) or I purchase something, I subtract that from Discretionary. I also put all the monthly expenses at the top of Discretionary like birthday gifts, projected clothing purchases, postage, dry cleaning, restaurant, etc. - so that I have pre-planned to spend that money and don't spend it on something else. That way I can get the deals from my cards that offer cash back for certain purchases and sales and I never lose track. (I'm the family shopper - my husband is not interested in that.) It's all about planning and being financially organized!

I know this is a old episode, but how do they get refunds on their taxes the most I’ve ever ever gotten even when I was single working low way retail was like 300 bucks back
It was a long time ago when tech was more expensive. If they had family or friends in the US it was very expensive because that was considered international calls. Also they take the last 6 months of expenses and average them. If they each bought a $600 cell phone then the usage bill would only be $100 per month even though on average it would be $300. Its why its easy underestimate monthly expenses.

Idk why couples think you need a 30k wedding. Why? Buying an expensive white dress you will only wear once, but expensive flowers that’s get dumped in the trash?! The point of being married is to get married because you love that person. Get a cheap $100 white dress you can resell after the event. Go to a event hall and dont spend more than 2k. Why impress people?! They don’t care.
I’m not so sure about that method, seems like it could easily lead to an addictive cycle of spending and starving. Much better to adopt a steady but still serious approach, crash diet vs long term health plan.
@@Sarah-eh7bw I agree. Once a person is off the rice and beans diet/payment plan lifestyle , a person could over broad and start spending way too much. And the cycle continues. Slow and steady runs the race and (hopefully) pays the bills.

Every time I watch one of these shows (which I just can't seem to stop) I am yelling at the screen "How did you NOT KNOW that you owed that much??? Do you not have a calculator?" Seriously. At least once every few months, sit down and add up what you OWN and what you OWE. That will change your perspective. Like he was thinking they own the house and the cars. Nope...
Years behind on taxes....yikes. Are'nt you scared of being homeless???
Great job🎉🎉
I know this is a old episode, but how do they get refunds on their taxes the most I’ve ever ever gotten even when I was single working low way retail was like 300 bucks back
How do only 2 people have a cell phone bill that’s over 300 dollars 💵 ?
This show is over 15yrs ago. Data and txt use i imagine, that was back when you would have pay per plans
@@Zoot_of_Anthrax yeah I was in my early 20s back then. We had a family plan and I got in BIG trouble. I accidentally texted like $300worth. It stunk because by the time she got the bill we were already almost half way through the next billing cycle. 😬 that was back when you either paid per text or got a plan with like 200, 500, or like 1500 texts per month. Lol fun times.
As the replies have said, the tech was more pricey back in the 2005-2010ish era and not to mention, in Canada we don't have as much competition for lower cell rates like the USA does.
@@JK-tq4qf we have huge monopolies for everything in Canada. We are not smart people. We need to take cues from our neighbors to the south, life is a lot cheaper in the U.S.
These were some strong 30s back then.
I love Gail!
I watch these to remind me to pay my bills on time and not spend more than I can afford.
I know... and why would you want to? I have always lived within my means and now my means are betting better and better. What's the point of putting yourself underwater for 'stuff'? Also, buying everything at once means everything will need to be replaced around the same time. Much better to buy a dishwasher now and a washing machine in a few years. And NEVER two cars at once... OMG the massive depreciation on a new car!
Me too. I listen to it and go yikes, let’s avoid that like the plague
That's excellent accountability!
Your future self will thank you 😁
Omg for real!
Me too
Got rid of my cell and stoped paying for my daughter's. Saved a lot.
"Its not like we're stupid people" durrf durr quack quack says the duck
Smart people do not have crazy debt
Um wut... math was my worst subject in school but I am 35 yrs old. No auto debt. Home paid off in cash. Live on less than $14,000 per year. Just budget. Its not difficult. Its simple math & knowing needs versus wants.
One thing you never want to do is neglect taxes- it causes so much stress and unnecessary heartache! Open a business and write off your musical instruments!
I have a client whose partner hasn't filed taxes in 15 years and this client "accidentally" opened up an envelope to also discover $35000 in arrears for child support, yet only contributes $500 a month to household expenses and eats about $300 worth of groceries. I told this client "you cannot blame your partner for sucking the life out of you if you keep handing them the straw"
She’s 32? Dayum. I’d have guessed closer to 45 😳
Yep. She looks older than the guy.
@@planetag310 She looks like she could be his mom!
What’s your point in saying this?
Her hair style and the clothes are doughty
@@kamjo79 Just trying to get your goat. I win.
Can he really play those key boards or do he have them for fun
Gail with the Guitar Hero guitar 😂
You can tell how old this is just by the price of that tv
That TV is worth 10 times more today. The Inflation crisis is going to make it even higher.
Dave Ramsey would say, sell the cars, sell rhe toys, sell the TV, sell everything that doesn't run away first. Rice and beans, get second jobs.
Yes! And it will be paid off in a year or less.
Has does that work when you don’t own the items you sell? Your underwater on the cars, the minute you transfer/sell them, the bill for the whole amount comes due! Slow and steady does win the race.
@@joycef8443 it doesn't matter, Ramsey gives the same advice to everyone. Sell everything, buy a used $5k car, work yourself to the bone, eat ramen and drink tap water
I am really surprised that a lot of people don’t count their money they just give it away without thinking
That spread sheet of debt gave me anxiety. 😮
Not even married and collected debt together ..talk about starting off bad. Just don't get knocked up.
The beds look same to me.
The fact that the dog don't make no income is absolutely absurd....😂😂
When I see The Repo Man Comes in The Thumbnail it reminds me of Flowers In The Attic" The Origin where Corrine Dollanganger has to see the loss of The Kitchen Table Set and the Oven so she can't feed her children properly. In The Book Flowrers In The Attic, Corrine sits at The Desk where she sees The Bankbook that has next to nothing and a Mountain of Bills that have Envelopes that say "Overdue Payment" or "Immediate Payment".
I remember that too!! Scary book 😅
@@legzfalloffgirl5148Yes. I was 15 when I first heard about this book in 1981 I told my Friend she was crazy when she told me the plot. She had the Gray Paperback Edition that could be worth a Mint on Ebay. I'll say one thing, VC Andrews took folks (like myself) who weren't into horror fiction into die hard fans. I learned another lesson, finances don't discriminate and even before they got married if they weren't on the same page Christopher & Corrine would eventually have a downfall.
I didn't think much of Tambourine Players but after seeing Standing In The Shadows Of Motown, Jack Ashford who played on alot of motown songs, and banged it like it owed him money. Sadly alot of them came out of their celebrity with nothing.
3:55 Gail is hilarious
Step 1: Sell the truck and new car and buy 2 cheap cars with cash.
That only works if they can sell them for at least the amount they owe otherwise it makes more sense to stick it out. That's why impulse buying a car isn't recommended.
It’s hilarious that they’re not even married but sound like they’re about to file for divorce in the beginning lol
For our wedding, my Gramps paid for thr invitations (we needed a CC and didnt have 1- we HAD the cash in hand but he WOULD NOT allow us to pay him for them!) My hisbands Aunt made wedding cakes for a living, our wedding present= FREE!!!!!! I did the flowers, the decorations AND the food (and final exams the week before the wedding!) We paid EVERYTHING else!!!! We helped our friends/family clean the church after the 1st reception. The sexind was at the bar: his best man moved the food from church to bar(groomsmen helped!) My husband went clear theur school w the owners of 1 of the busiest bars in our town. For the reception there, they sold us a Keg (at cost) and 1 bottle of liquor free (Im not a beer girl) all told, we worked HARD for our wedding and were in 3,000 TOTAL!!!!@ The ONLY regret I have is: we skipped a professional photographer!!!!! We have 3 pics and a video! But our memories are priceless
She looks older than 32
4 yrs not paying taxes??? How? Why???? WTH!!!!!! People like this just 😡 me off!!!
They are the biggest silly people on this show I have ever seen, omfg
I am just trying to figure out why someone wouldn't pay taxes for 4 years...
I remember the ad's on tv credit costs you so think twice or pay the price
My wedding was about $3,000 all in for about 100 people. It would have been cheaper, but we wanted to tip everyone that volunteered their time.
My friend's daughter has the right idea. She told her mom she doesn't want a wedding. She would rather put the money towards a down payment on a house which they did. They can get married at a courthouse.
That guy's a software designer and only makes 52 grand a year? I'm a janitor and make that much money.
This was over a decade ago.
This is 20 years ago
52k as a software engineer
He's getting kicked in the balls all the time! That's terrible
He is so immature ! They have nothing to show for it. They own nothing. It's a good thing they chose to get this figured out before the marriage. Money brings out the real person.
Got married at 8a.m. handful of pepole in attendance pankaes and mimosas after! It was simple and perfect!
Hear that, that knock on the door? That's the Piper. He wants to be paid. This should be mandatory in every high school Economics class. Don't spend money you don't have.
Says he wants to be a rockstar but they show him on the keyboard 😂
I wonder how many of these couples stay together or stay on course to get out of debt. I saw my parents climb back out of debt over a decade and it was rough.
Spent too much money and feel bad so spend more money? Man, they've got some emotional baggage to work on.
If you do not have the deed, the bank can foreclose your house & take it
Oh dear, he thought he owned the house 😬
Yup!
They rent from the bank.
Then after you actually own the house? You will rent the property from the government.
I started tracking my interest and cannot stand it
We only have 1 car payment. No mortgage, no credit cards. But I’m paying extra principle on the car because the $45 a month in interest is driving my crazy. I hate giving the bank extra money 🤦🏼♀️
@@cjhoward409 right??!!! I cannot stand it. I’ve given them thousands and thousands, but that is ending, it’s ending real quick
@@Gitanarosa
And when you put your money in the bank, they give you less than 1% interest. When I was a kid, banks gave around 3% interest.
Good job planning to pay off debt❤
2 cars, neither park in the garage. She should have looked in the garage to see what was stuffed in there. If he owns 7 keyboards, why isn't he selling 6 of them?
Oh my God they are going to have everything taken away and they're going to be homeless on the street
At least they can live in their fancy cars 😂
