Yeah I just recently bought a 1978 Dodge Minnie Winnie, with the bathroom in the back. It's also very dated but you're giving me some fantastic ideas how to make it look nicer. So glad I found your channel and I will be following
I can’t believe I found your channel, I have a 1978 Midas mini, I’ve had it for 18 years, it was parked for four years at a campground but I’ve got it Home now and I’m getting it back on the road, your videos are a godsend to me right now, thank you for , Jerry
Dude....the blacked out grill and Rims have made the Ol' Dodge looking pretty TACTICAL.....Now all you need to do is camouflage the entire exterior and add some 50BMG Gun ports on the sides. hahaha. Good job on the improvements
Archangel0804 I think it looks tougher too! I am actually looking for some large surplus camo nets. This fall, I am going to try and mount my tripod deer stand to the top and hunt from it. Going to cover the whole rig with camo nets!!
When you turned on the led light it made me think of when Clark Griswold plugged up his Christmas lights and shut the grid down, lol. Thanks for the videos brother!
Nice work Yankee. I grew up hunting out of a Dodge camper. This video series makes me want to go out and find one to work on. Thanks for sharing, it's an awesome blueprint for a project camper.
mojsmg I get inquiries every time I take the family to a campground. A lot of guys young and old want to take a peek and closer look. Some of them like you grew up with it and some owned one when they were new. Many are interested in it's size too, they want a smaller vehicle, but big enough to be capable for week long trips. I can't believe the difference in how quiet the camper is traveling with the new radials as opposed to the old bias!
I recently bought a 78 Brougham Sportsman with a 440 in it..its pretty nice.inside...got it for only 1,980 bucks..has a major coolant leak near the heater core/evaporator..water pump or belts make noise..and the brakes seem too sensitive..don't wanna press to hard..mine as no fridge or generator.. cab a/c compressor not working also.. will watch..most/all your videos..so cool that you produced them..glad I found your RUclips page..I subscribed.
Looking good brother, just got back from the river from doing a little catfish fishing. Been a nice summer so far not to hot for us northern folks so far. Enjoy!
You make having an RV look obtainable and functional on a common man's living wage. Thinking about getting rid of the 1989 Diesel suburban 4wd and getting something similar to haul the family around in. Semper Fi.
Foothills Readiness That is one of the points I am trying to make with this series. Having decent skills saves me a ton of money and time, you don't have to go into debt or pay through the nose for things you want. I bought this as a mobile deer camp/guy shack, but it quickly turned into a family deal. My kids are the perfect age for this and my wife REALLY likes it. Kinda like a living room with wheels. I still like to rough it and get to the back of the woods, but this really makes it easy to load up and take off somewhere.
Hey YP, what about the head/latrine in the Dodge? Do you have a tank or a composter? What are some of the ways could you covertly "dump" the tank and keep a low profile while doing it? Slit trench etc... Have you considered wood heat or solar thermal heating? I am aware of your climate where you live and that you may be able to stay warmer in your winter warfare hooch "tyvek tent" while hunting. Any considerations for a 4wd conversion for the winter? Man, I have so many questions. Any help and or answers will be appreciated. Really considering a similar build. Semper Fi.
Foothills Readiness I would never consider "covertly" dumping my tank somewhere, Minnesota has some of the cleanest freshwater reserves in the world and I want to keep it that way. This isn't a SHTF/Survival doomsday show for me, but dysentery is going to kill more people in a SHTF eventually than bullets because people are ignorant of how to crap properly without a toliet. We don't even use the head in the RV, when I am at parks we use the local facilities. When I am in the woods we crap properly in the woods. I have no plans to convert this to 4wd, it's not made for it, nor is it made for winter use.
Thank you for your candor in this matter of proper waste disposal. One would think this topic would be common sense but we are speaking of lazy individuals that lack training and skills. Not the BS "Tacticool" skills but common sense skills that a 9 year old boy learns in the Boy Scouts of yesteryear. That is kind of what I trying to get at/address. You have a much larger audience than I ever hope to have here on YT or elsewhere. As for the 4wd idea for the Dodge Mobile Man cave, I was just curious. You never know what one may see on the Yankee Prepper YT channel. Keep it up. Semper Fi.
Nice job on the RV. I have really enjoyed your videos on that project. I just had to reference an older video of yours. As a result, I am now addicted to cold press coffee. Lol. Thanks.
Another awesome update. That camper is looking very nice. Thanks for sharing always enjoy your uploads, and how you are always show using your hands and head on all your projects saving money and getting what you need to fit you and your family. Good stuff for certain brother. Rick
I like it, and i'm not a dodge fan! But it would be KILLER with a Cummins 6BT swap! A 4BT probably wouldn't be too bad either. It really is amazing how a a little time, labor and elbow grease plus a creative mind can do to transform things and make them way better and worth more. Even a good cleaning helps a lot.
loved your video. I just purchased a 24' GMC Midas Class C. Very much looking forward to remod'ing her. Just ordered two 100 watt Renogy solar panels. Pulled the generator out and am using that space for my battery storage . As of May 1 I am cutting the ties and will be living in her full time until I leave my job in mid December and will then be travelling full time.
dont forget about the Winnebago Surplus store located in Forest City Iowa. They have an entire warehouse of parts large and small of things that fit into a camper. Solid wood cabinetry, electronics, switches, wiring, awnings, accessories, appliances, heaters, AC units, Make a list and go visit. They arent that far from you maybe 2 hours drive. Know what current prices are before you buy. There are deep discounts and not so good prices available on the same shelving unit.
Awesome staycation vehicle! This series of vids I look forward to. I do appreciate the knowledge you offer. This is a project I've been listing to do for years.
I just found and subscribed to you`re channel. its amazing how a few small changes or upgrades can make a huge difference in these older rv`s. Great job so far.
Going with new carpet or something more resilient like LVT or LVP? Mannington has a luxury vinyl plank that resemble about any wood floor you can imagine. It installs ober a 1/16 inch black foam.... Wears great.. Easy clean.
Yankee I came across flooring you maybe interested in for the RV. It's called smartcore it snaps together like laminate but is waterproof and durable like vinyl. I found it at Lowes but I'm pretty sure it's available many other places. The stuff looks great and might be something to consider.
Great videos! I have the same RV but it's a '73. Your videos are helping me put it back together. I changed the instrument cluster voltage regulator and now my gas gauge isn't working. With the old one the gas gauge works but temp gauge doesn't. Did you do any fixing of regulator to get everything work? Also I need 8.0X16.5 tires. Did you change to 16 or kept 16.5. Great job again by breathing new life into that RV
KAY JOHN I did replace the regulator, even though it was working. I replaced all the electronics in one of my vids, they are cheap and worth the peace of mind. There is a diode behind the dash as well that helps power the instrument lights and gauges. You might want to check that, the part is still available. A good connection cleaning can sometimes remedy these problems too. Question #2 - AHHHhhhh.... the tires. This is the "old RV" question quandary of ALL time I think. I went round and round about this issue. I looked into switching rims, researched the rim years that would work, priced tires blah blah blah. In the end after all the research. I decided to stay with the 16.5, but went with 8.75 x 16.5. The internet myth/parroting is that 16.5 is "hard to get". I found this untrue. I can get 16.5 at 3 different places close to home, INSTOCK. (It is true though that the big box stores do not carry them anymore) I also can find a good amount used on craigslist. With the availability issue debunked, I could not justify all the work and trouble switching rims as I carry a spare anyway and keep good tires on the rig. And then ask yourself this, "How many New tires will you buy for it?" I will probably only buy one set for the rig for the rest of my life, you just don't put that many miles on. Now, the 8.00 vs 8.75.......the taller 8.75 makes a difference for me in profile, .75 might not seem like much, but it makes a difference in how my rig sits. BUT...it also adds to a higher hwy speed. The speedo is a little off, but the engine rpm is lower at 65mph. Goodluck with yours, they are really pretty simple to work on. I feel like I already got my moneys worth out of it, took another trip recently and had a BLAST with it.
Re-doing a camper with my brother right now, this series has been very valuable for giving us ideas! Was that a compressed air tank or a water tank on your trailer?
15 gallon fuel tank. The trailer was set up as a base camp/hunting hauler. When you are out in the boonies, extra fuel for ATV's, bikes, generators etc. comes in handy.
BCtruck, rebuild, repair, repurpose It's just a polishing pad, I pick them up at Menard's and Northern Tool. I set myself at the far end of the driveway and put an old piece of plywood underneath the project though....there is quite a bit of spray.
WOW 😍 Such a great job brother. Im about to by a 1978 Dodge Aristocrat. Im looking for the dimensions of tires and a place to buy a complete new kit of brakes. Can you help me with that? :)
Yeah I just recently bought a 1978 Dodge Minnie Winnie, with the bathroom in the back. It's also very dated but you're giving me some fantastic ideas how to make it look nicer. So glad I found your channel and I will be following
Man love what you did with the light bar and the grill.

wicked rig brother. I have a 78' Dodge sportsman too. Very cool.
Always inspiring. Seeing everything you've got going make a guy work harder on his own projects. Thanks for the ideas.
I pity the first person to cut you off. Great video, love personal touches to old rigs.
The light bar addition was a stroke of genius. Very nice!
When you turned on the led light it made me think of when Clark Griswold plugged up his Christmas lights and shut the grid down, lol. Thanks for the videos brother!
Very nice!

I'm just finding your camper videos. Love those 70's Dodge rv's.
I like what your doing to it.
Looking good brother, just got back from the river from doing a little catfish fishing. Been a nice summer so far not to hot for us northern folks so far. Enjoy!
just bought a 77 dodge c class I am loving your channel for ideas for my new rig
Excellent video!
Your videos have certainly opened my eyes to what can be done with just a little time and effort. Thanks.
Awesome! Love that light you installed. Can't beat that old dodge ....they jus keep on going.
Thanks for the inspiration! Your camper is looking great!

I honestly had no idea that much could be done with an angle grinder. That stove looked really nice.
wpherigo1 The Angle Grinder is one of the most important and versatile tools a man can own.
Awesome staycation vehicle! This series of vids I look forward to. I do appreciate the knowledge you offer. This is a project I've been listing to do for years.
Great repair on stove, bad-ass light bat too.

Mostly humble 1 I picked up a nice role (Menard's Remnant roll section had 20 percent off) of wood plank vinyl flooring.
The rv looks awesome
Great video love the upgrades would love to see more of this
A little effort pays off. Good stuff as always yp
nice work and gave me some good ideas.
awesome
So cool gonna be one fine machine!!
Excellent work my man.

not only will the led lighting save the battery life but it will be easy on the alternator

***** Thanks for the reply. I'll have her up and running soon. You have no idea how much your videos give me life
Re-doing a camper with my brother right now, this series has been very valuable for giving us ideas! Was that a compressed air tank or a water tank on your trailer?
15 gallon fuel tank. The trailer was set up as a base camp/hunting hauler. When you are out in the boonies, extra fuel for ATV's, bikes, generators etc. comes in handy.
@@Yankeeprepper I see, very cool.
That stove looked awesome! What pad did you use when you buffed out the Brasso? I used a lot of Brasso when I was in the Army, back in the 70,s.
BCtruck, rebuild, repair, repurpose It's just a polishing pad, I pick them up at Menard's and Northern Tool. I set myself at the far end of the driveway and put an old piece of plywood underneath the project though....there is quite a bit of spray.
great vid
Love the camper and your videos are an inspiration. Was hoping you could share where you got the LED strip bar from. Thanks for the awesome vids!
Silverhawk Got it from EBAY. seller wheelsmania2015 / "54inch 300W Flood Spot COMBO LED Work Light Bar Offroad"
***** Thank you!
The lights are going to work out great for our Bigfoot/Demon/Grays/Naphilim hunt!!!
thebrooklynprepper Can't wait to see their pupils contract when this thing lights up!! I'm gonna put lights all around the sides and rear too.
You should paint that RV a nice desert brown or tan color.
J.J. MacBocephus ZERO plans to do that, but thanks
LOL, I figured as much. The rig looks amazing, good work on it.
Very practical solutions. 👍👍 any wind noise generated by the light bar? Subscribed.
none that is noticeable over the wind noise already caused by pushing a large box through the air at 70mph
Smart. - Mike
WOW 😍 Such a great job brother. Im about to by a 1978 Dodge Aristocrat. Im looking for the dimensions of tires and a place to buy a complete new kit of brakes. Can you help me with that? :)
Tires size should be on the side of your tire wall, brakes are available at car part stores.
Nice 👌🏼
I've heard some RV parks only allow rigs more than 10 yrs old in if you send a pic first to prove it's not a POS. Have you run into this at all?
I have heard of that, but never had to deal with it.
Do you know where to get those secondary front light covers ?
How did you wire in the light bar?
You’ve been doing a great job. Have you managed to find a service manual for it? I’m trying to find one for my 79 Dreamer.
The drivetrain on my RV is just a 1977 Dodge B300 and manuals for those are still available if needed.
I dont like your Chanel , I love it I wonder how much did you pay for the Dodge.
