Me too! Haha. Thanks for this, I figured out how to get the plastic bit back in but not the bit about the springs, glad I didn’t have to buy a new lid!
Submerge your lid in a bowl with baking soda and water and let it sit overnight. Then rinse it out in the morning. Put baking soda in your cup and let that soak as well.
You're a life saver lol. I put it on without having the springs in the right position and it kept spilling. I couldn't figure out how to fix it. This video was exactly what I needed. Thanks!
Another big thank you. I struggled for days trying to figure it out and would never have done it without your help. Took me a few goes but my mug is back in daily use and I don't have to feel guilty about using non recycling paper cups, plus lots of coffee shops now give you a discount for bringing your own mug, so I'm very grateful to you for taking the time to share this great tip.
I know you posted this 5 yrs ago but I found it while I was looking to replace my lid. That piece fell off while cleaning. Thank you for helping me fix it and now I have my fully functioning lid back!!
You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. Love this mug and it happened to an old one and when I finally got around to getting another one it happened again two days in! This was incredibly difficult but worked. THANK YOU
This is my best friend's favorite travel mug. I spent an hour on it on my own before I found your video. Thanks to your help, it is now good as new! Thank you so much!
It was very helpful to have your video. Helped me get my lid back together again. The arm popped off while doing a deep cleaning of the lid. So thank you for sharing the way it goes together. Well Done.
Oh bless you!! I had given up. Had an old lid, used it one day and same damn thing happened. Shopping online for a new cup and lid, your vid popped up. Dug my old one out of the recycling bin, and both are fixed! I got one side in and used a knife to hold the other spring arm up while I got that side in. Thank you!!
Samuel, thank you so much for taking time to post this video. I was getting frustrated, you probably have better manual dexterity. So I took another look at this system. I popped out the larger part that swings up. "Push to Clean". Use a small screwdriver or simular tool. Just to get a little leverage on each side. When you have that part out, it is very easy to install the actual seal part with the springs, because you can get a much more favorable angle, so it can be installed with very little spring tension. After you have that spring loaded part I installed, you can install the whole unit (both prices) without much trouble.
Oh! Well now I read this! It took me so many tries to fix it before I did. Thanks, I will remember this tip for next time, and there will be a next time! :( :)
My High Schooler uses this mug for coffee with chocolate syrup in the AM. It got so clogged with chocolate that we were desperate to take it apart and clean it. Very excited to find the "Push to Clean" on the mechanism. Then in my zealousness to clean, the springs came right off. An hour of fiddling got me nowhere close to fixing and your video saved the day in 5 minutes flat. Bravo Sam!
This was an extremely helpful video. I was about to throw the travel mug away but was reluctant because it is our absolute favorite. Keeps coffee hot for a long, long time. Those spring arms are tricky, but be patient as Samuel says. I have my mug back. Thank you and Kudos!
I know you posted this years ago but please realize that your knowledge is still helping people. You have just saved my morning school run coffee and I am forever in your debt!!!
Thank you so much! You’ve literally saved me over $55au(although it has absolutely been worth its original price for walks and a ‘relaxing’ pre prepared coffee with my rambunctious dog 🤪😬) to replace a cup that I knew still worked perfectly well but just couldn’t work out where and how to put those springs! Much gratitude!
THANK YOU SO MUCH. Fenegeling with the damn springs took me over twenty minutes so if someone is despairing and reading this comment, just keep trying. you need to put the protruding parts in the holes one at a time; start with the hole furthest from you.
Thank you for your clear explanation of how to repair the lid of the Contigo autoseal travel mug along with the demonstration. The fix worked perfectly.
Wow, thank you!! Six years later and this video is still helpful! =-D You helped me determine that one of my springs had fallen into the sink, and thank goodness, it hadn't washed down yet. It was a little tricky but was able to fix it, yay!
You're a hero! I didn't have another lid to reference. My favorite travel mug is back in action thanks to you! It was really thoughtful of you to take time out of your day to make this video.
Total life saver. Almost was going to throw away the mug. That sole tip of angling it properly made it so much easier. Also some small pick or tool to help ensure they stay made this even better.
Thank you! I thought I had my lit put back together correctly, until I started spilling everywhere. Your video helped me get it back together and now it's as good as new!
Thank you. RUclips and people like you who show how to do things to the rescue. Toom mine apart to give a thorough clean, then couldn't work out how to put that part back in correctly. Many thanks 👍
This video was EXACTLY what I needed and couldn't be more grateful to find it!!!!! Thank you SO much! Wow...you truly can find anything on the internet...I thought for sure googling to figure this out would be a lost cause!
Thank you, thank you and thank you again! This is may daughter's favourite coffee mug for work. I was trying to give the lid a good clean and out it popped. Totally panicked. Thank heavens for your video. Very much appreciated.
Thanks for this. My cup lid was loaded with black gunk from creamer. I took it apart and after 3 unsuccessful attempts to get the mechanism to work, I found this. A minute later the cup was assembled and working properly. Yahoo, I have my cup back.
Thank you so much, I was about to buy a replacement lid. At first I couldn't figure out why the lid was slowly leaking. After a lot of squinting (unfortunately your video is out of focus) I saw that the end of the springs in my lid weren't in the correct position and where they needed to rest on the little plastic thingies. Took me a few tries and a micro screw driver for support but now it works perfectly.
Thank you for the helpful video, noticed my lid was sitting on the side in pieces this morning so went to put it all back together but was unsure on the spring setup specifically, this video helped resolve that. Cheers!
Thank you so much. Mine came apart during cleaning and I could not figure out how it went back together. I just a couple minutes, following your instructions, I was able to get it back together.
Thank you! I found that wrapping the little spikes in sellotape to hold them up worked well and then it just slid off. I was able to place the spikes it’s a sharp pick. Grateful for your info.
Thank you! Thanks for taking the time to make this video -- I love the Internet. The key information for me was getting the two arms under the ledge -- I was trying to thread them through the two holes near the plastic bosses. And yes, you don't want to stick a plastic brush in there -- that's how I knocked it out.
This was so helpful. I couldn't figure where the end of those springs were supposed to go AND I didn't even catch that the little arms needed to go under "the ledge" (great description). Thank you, it's coffee time again!
Definitely easier if you take out the "push to clean" part as another poster, Philip Coler, suggested. Thanks to both gentlemen, I got my husband's favorite Contigo cup fixed! Like others said, this video was exactly what I was looking for!
Thanks for this video. A while back someone tried to clean my lid for me and popped the springs out by mistake, and were unable to fix it. I was going to buy a new one until I saw this. As an added suggestion for anyone having trouble getting the springs and the arms in the right position, I popped the springs out of where they lock into the plunger part, and put the plunger and the springs in loosely. Then, I used a pair of hemostats to pull the springs back into the holes.
I did the same thing. The way the video outlines was too fiddly for me and I didn't have the patience. Just jammed the large piece into the holes and then used tweezers to force the springs into the slots.
“As you can see, the arms are resting up here” *camera not focused* “no I can’t” Thank you though! Too bad your camera didn’t want to cooperate with you. This still helped me
Did it eventually - thanks for posting!. As another mentioned, make sure your springs come up from the underneath... and do one side at a time... I ended up using a toothpick to control the spring as you push to keep it in position... took quite a few minutes. Don't get angry!.. stop... walk away... and try again - it is possible!
Yay! I fixed it. Thank you! I've had my cup fir a cold months now and just realized how to clean it and the lid came apart as I was cleaning it. I'm surprised I haven't gotten sick from the gunk that was in there.... again thanks
Appreciate it! I was able to figure out where the springs rested, but after getting ridiculously frustrated with the small legs jamming the whole mechanical process, I decided to search out a helpful video.
Thank you so much! There's nothing worse than when you go to make a cup of coffee, but decide to clean the lid out first and the springs pop off. I was ready to throw it away until I saw your video. Thanks again!
Thank you - perfect instructions! I was afraid I was going to have to buy another mug because I LOVE this one but was having trouble getting it back together!
It's 2024 and this guy is still helping people, myself included. Thank you!
Thanks a lot. This was exactly what I needed to fix my lid. Note to self: do not scrub.
Me too! Haha. Thanks for this, I figured out how to get the plastic bit back in but not the bit about the springs, glad I didn’t have to buy a new lid!
LOL i scrubed yesterday and the spring fly off
Submerge your lid in a bowl with baking soda and water and let it sit overnight. Then rinse it out in the morning. Put baking soda in your cup and let that soak as well.
I know, right? I used a scub brush for glasses and it came apart. Need an old tooth brush I guess.
Omg, well at least I'm not the only one who scrubbed, lol
Thank you for the tutorial!!! 😊
You saved my life man, no one wants to see me without my coffee!
You're a life saver lol. I put it on without having the springs in the right position and it kept spilling. I couldn't figure out how to fix it. This video was exactly what I needed. Thanks!

Thank you! I would never have figured it out by myself. It took me a few tries, but with the help of your video, my mug is functional once again!

Incredible video, simple and easy to follow without an BS talking! Nothing extra. Just help.
thank you so much, I've had my contigo for 7 years and I thought it was done for! you absolutely saved me

Thanks for this tip! I struggled with trying to get the spring piece loaded for like 20 minutes! With your tip I had it installed in under 5!
Oh! Well now I read this! It took me so many tries to fix it before I did. Thanks, I will remember this tip for next time, and there will be a next time! :( :)
OMG - thank you, this worked and took 2 minutes!
I just rescued mine from the landfill by following these instructions. Thanks!

Man, I was fiddling with this thing forever. Your tip about making sure the arms were beneath the ledge was a lifesaver. Thank you very much!
I know you posted this years ago but please realize that your knowledge is still helping people. You have just saved my morning school run coffee and I am forever in your debt!!!
My husband tried to put it together and insisted the spring was broken. Thank you for proving that I was right. Fixed it myself thanks to you!
My cup has been in the cupboard for 6 months until I looked up this video! Thank you it's my favorite cup and now I can use it!!
You just made my whole weekend. I feel like I accomplished something worthwhile today.
Thank you so much for this! Was cleaning my kid out and knocked the seal piece out and couldn’t figure out how to fix it!

THANK YOU!!! So grateful! Had this mug for about 6 years and now I can keep it for much longer!
Thank you so much. I've been trying to fix mine all morning and almost gave up. Glad I came across this
Thank you sooooooo much! Six years later, and this video is a lifesaver! I can keep my favorite work mug!!!
Wow, thank you!! Six years later and this video is still helpful! =-D You helped me determine that one of my springs had fallen into the sink, and thank goodness, it hadn't washed down yet. It was a little tricky but was able to fix it, yay!
Couldn’t figure out the exact position. Removing ‘buy new Contigo cup’ from my to-do list and saving my money! Thank you!!!

This video was EXACTLY what I needed and couldn't be more grateful to find it!!!!! Thank you SO much! Wow...you truly can find anything on the internet...I thought for sure googling to figure this out would be a lost cause!
This was super helpful. I was just about to give up and get a new mug when I found your video. Thanks!
Thank you, thank you and thank you again! This is may daughter's favourite coffee mug for work. I was trying to give the lid a good clean and out it popped. Totally panicked. Thank heavens for your video. Very much appreciated.
Great explanation and video. Saved me lots of time trying to figure out how to put this back together. Thank you!
Thanks for this. My cup lid was loaded with black gunk from creamer. I took it apart and after 3 unsuccessful attempts to get the mechanism to work, I found this. A minute later the cup was assembled and working properly. Yahoo, I have my cup back.
Yes! Thank you. I've had mine for years and cleaning it today the springs came undone. Thank you!
Thank you so much!! It did indeed take a lot of finagling. Found it easier to do one side at a time, for anyone else struggling.
Thank you so much, I was about to buy a replacement lid. At first I couldn't figure out why the lid was slowly leaking. Dude you literally saved my life. A million times thank you!
So, so helpful Samuel. I’ve thrown so many of these expensive flasks out as the spring always pops. Thank you!
Huge public service. Thank you for posting this.
Thank you!! Straight to the point! I thought my mug was garbage but you help me save it
Thank you for the detailed, accurate instructions! Save a TON of frustration!
Thanks for your detailed explanation. You're right it was quite tricky getting the springs back into place... yet it worked. Thanks again!
Thank you so much. Mine came apart during cleaning and I could not figure out how it went back together. I just a couple minutes, following your instructions, I was able to get it back together.
Thanks so much, Samuel! Was ready to toss the whole thing after I only had it for two weeks! You're a gem!
Thank you! I didn't even realize I was missing one of the springs without your video! Lid saved!
Thanks for taking the time to save us all both time and frustration.
This man out here saving lives and 24 bucks
OMG Thank You so much. Best coffee mug EVER but boy was I baffled on how to put back together. You have saved my mornings!!
Thank you! I found that wrapping the little spikes in sellotape to hold them up worked well and then it just slid off. I was able to place the spikes it’s a sharp pick. Grateful for your info.
I found taping back the springs while you finagled everything else in place really helped.
THANK YOU. I spent a small eternity trying to fix it, to no avail.
Thank you! Thanks for taking the time to make this video -- I love the Internet. Exactly what I needed to see, mine just popped off while I was cleaning it. First time it's happened and I've had this mug for about two years!
Thank you- I don't know that I could have fixed my lid without your video!
A person really can find a video for just about everything!
Thank you for making this video! I was cleaning my cap today when this piece came apart and had no idea how it went back together.
Thank you! Three minutes of work instead of two days of trying :)
Saved my life. Was going insane trying to figure it out. Thanks for the video.
You're a life saver mate! Thank you from Scotland
Thanks so much for this. Mine popped out this afternoon. Would never get it back together without your video.
Thanks for your video and the time you took to make this! Really helped save my night.
“As you can see, the arms are resting up here”
*camera not focused* “no I can’t”
Thank you though! Too bad your camera didn’t want to cooperate with you. This still helped me
WOWOWOW I did it! Only took 45 minutes and a likely repetitive motion injury! Thank you so much!
Did it eventually - thanks for posting!. As another mentioned, make sure your springs come up from the underneath... and do one side at a time... Another travel mug saved because of you, thank you sir!!
Yay! I fixed it. Thank you! I've had my cup fir a cold months now and just realized how to clean it and the lid came apart as I was cleaning it. I'm surprised I haven't gotten sick from the gunk that was in there.... again thanks
Thanks a lot for posting this video.I Was getting to the point of smashing it into little pieces after struggling with it for over half an hour:)
7 years later, and this was still useful! Thanks!
Appreciate it! I was able to figure out where the springs rested, but after getting ridiculously frustrated with the small legs jamming the whole mechanical process, I decided to search out a helpful video.
Thank you so much!! I was able to fix my favorite mug with your help!! 😊
Thank you so much! There's nothing worse than when you go to make a cup of coffee, but decide to clean the lid out first and the springs pop off. I was ready to throw it away until I saw your video. Thanks again!

Bro. THANK YOU! Tried to deep clean my lid and I almost just bought a new mug!

Thank you - perfect instructions! I was afraid I was going to have to buy another mug because I LOVE this one but was having trouble getting it back together!
Thanks Samuel. Had the same, followed your instructions and it works!
I would never have figured this out on my own!! Thank you so much for posting this!!
