    This is insane! Who in their right mind creates such a bottle and expects people to be able to clean it?

    Many thanks Mate. My daughter accidentally pulled the silicone sleeve out and after taking a look at it, I thought the bottle was cactus! I found your video, followed your instructions and the bottle is working perfectly again! Cheers mate!

    Wow, this seems like an example of blocking right to repair. Just bought one of these and pulled the silicone spout out to clean it before use and then noticed the note on the label about not removing the spout (unlike every other bottle I've had). Seems intentionally designed to be impossible for the average person to maintain, on a product that should last many years. Could have been designed to be easy to take apart and reassemble like most other bottles, but they chose the opposite. This one's going back and I'll avoid Contigo from now on. No idea why they're so popular.

      Hilarious! I pulled the spout out to clean and have been trying to insert back to no avail. My husband was just saying how ridiculous it is to have a design that is almost impossible to clean!

      Did you find a better mechanism compared to contigo?
      I really love the travel mugs as the are so easy to use and clean, was hoping this is a good one for bottle water with straw.

      @@markus4979 I found the Owala FreeSip and love it. It's got a combo lid that you can sip like a straw, or tip up to pour from the open spout part. There's insulated and non, 4 sizes I think and a bunch of colors. Completely cleanable with no disassembly needed. Best bottle I've ever had. It's great unless you need a soft straw for some reason.

    • @markus4979
      @markus4979 7 месяцев назад +1

      nice thanks, indeed a reasonable alternative, but I'll admit I bought the Contigo one for my wife anyway as I liked the practicality of it and found indeed the ease of use to outweigh the cleaning maintenance efforts required. It's just so easy and fun to use, and the carabiner like handle is quiet smart to attach on hike bag packs. I can see why children love it.
      With Owala one always has to unbuckle the handle just to open the lid. If only Contigo would make it more serviceable. =)
      But mould is quiet serious, thus I'll see how it goes in next 6-12months, just hard to know whats hidden behind.

    I'll probably only do this once, because prying open those parts seem to have made the whole contraption a lot jankier, but I definitely doubled the lifespan by replacing the mouthpiece.

    Thanks for this very clear and complete instructional video - it kept me from one of those "Oops - I shouldn't have done that" moments.
    I can't imagine why Contigo used triangular slot screws; why not use straight slots or Allen head screws? I managed to remove them with a straight slot jeweler's screwdriverAnyway, because the tabs hold the cap so snugly, I didn't bother to put them back.

    Great video, it helped me allot. I have an Ashland Chill Contigo. My cap is different and has a slotted hole instead of cutout like yours. For reassembly, I had to install everything but the auto spout button, because the lid wouldn't fit over the button. Once the lid was snapped on I could install the auto spout button through the slotted hole. Thanks again.

    I found my aluminum Contigo water bottle was harder to separate the two halves. Also the plastic has major battle damage from the flat head screwdriver. I found using a que-tip cleans the inner rubber very well and for other areas too. Also soaking in hot dish water. There is no need to do all this work unless the rubber fails and needs to be replaced. I also figure you should replace these bottles after a few years anyways.

    Hello! Very good video! My name is Hugo and I am from Argentina. I have a Contigo bottle, Ashland chill 2.0 model that stopped working. When I suck, only air comes out (the water does not rise). I estimate that the mouthpiece has broken in the area where it flexes when closing the spout. If this were the case, it would be a disappointment because the bottle has not been used for more than a year and was well cared for. Do you know where I could buy the replacement or perhaps a cover with another system? I wouldn't want to be changing the spare part every year... Thank you very much!

    I can use a long bristle brush and clean around and use a long skinny one to get inside the spout and straw tube. Of course you unscrew the straw and clean it then. Not a problem. I have no need to take it apart beyond that. You can also soak it in a bowl of bleach water while you do other things and just rinse it out. No problem. No big deal.

      The bottle is fine, I own one for 5 years and never needed to do this. The video is just an option for cleaning but if you only put water in it and clean it at least weekly it shouldn't get too dirty, much less grow mold in it. I know because I drink a lot of powdered Gatorade in my water and if I forget my bottle with the juice sitting in it for just 2 days it already starts growing mold, but the same never happens with clean water even if sits in the bottle for weeks. It's actually a wonderful bottle for those who know how to use any bottle really. Just drink water and clean it regularly, and definitely clean it more if one intends to drink juices in it.
