If drag pipes are good enough for drag racers, are they a performance choice on the street? Lemmy dishes out some straight talk on high-flow drag pipes. The more you know, the faster you go. Авто/Мото
That’s some serious glove tan.
Greg Citarella I thought mine were bad. I know nothing.
ZLA Lemmy can’t fault you for that.
2:21
Haha that glove tan
Jason Momoa really let himself go after Aquaman 🤣 just kidding, I love this channel, keep up the good work 👍👍👍
What jacket have you not been wearing this week.
switched to baffled exhaust but going back to the drag pipes. Sure the power boost was nice but man I miss that drag pipe sound!
God damn right. Got 1.75" 40 inch long cycle shack drags on my 06 street bob. WILL NEVER SWITCH THEM! loudest bike around, painful to people around me but I love it
@@paulhoster3403 I have a 07 street bob with a similar set up and couldn’t agree more.
Love the mickey mouse tan Lemmy!
That's HARMONIC reversion that causes drag pipe sag... you know, sound waves. The way to disipate the sound waves and keep them from wreaking havoc yet keep the exhaust free flowing is to slowly taper the exhaust's diameter to a larger size along it's entire length. That is why many tuned exhausts incorporate megaphones or are incrementally stepped from the primary to the end of the pipe or baffle.
Love the vids Lemmy.
What about laf short drag pipes with upgrade air filter torque cones and fuel booster plug on a 2009 Harley sportster ???
I came here to hopefully get support on my bad decision. I’m still full sending it though
Samd but im happy with it
Edit same
I felt a lot more power through all my RPM ranges. It was dyno tuned and my custom map is working great
I like your style.
Hi lemmy so as long as the pipes in question have silencers in you should be fine then is that right? Hoping to get my bike licence this year and want a virago 535 with black widow drag pipes and the have welded in silencers.
2 minute WHATS UP LEMMY!!!! PS nice tan lines 😂🤣
Best Vlogs on all things Harley and yes Great glove tan.
I ride a 1992 Sportster 1200 and I have 1 3/4" drags on it. I had slip-ons before, switched to straight pipes for the sound and the old school looks. I haven't noticed much of a difference. In the mid-range it does lack some throttle response, but overall it feels about the same. It's a fun bike.
Did you have to rejet the carburetor?
I have a 2016 iron 883 just put on drag pipes from Amazon omg it roars, and same I haven't felt any noticeable difference from stock.
Really bumped up the production value with those highlighted hands for presentations... oh...
Feeling the white gloves lol
Good info
My drag pipe sound gd on my 95 heritage bike halls ass ....no baffles ...smells Lil exhaustie but my 80 Evo keep up with those 100.+ Cubic motors until 6th speed then they get me ...only got a 5 speed lol
how do I get in touch with you about the straight pipes that im putting on my bike
Good info bro
Well explained, thank you! 🙌
You can do whatever you want on your motorcycle...as long is safe.
2:00 beautiful illustration
My Intruders factory exhaust was toast....a Cobra drag kit it the only thing left that's reasonable, and they call it a drag pipe. But it's got a baffle....and it works ok....ideally you would rejet and they have a kit that matches, and I will, but with stock intake this kit actually works fine. Sometimes it's called a drag kit.....but it's just hype.
Lemmy, best 2 into 1 for an evo that can clear a 4 speed kickerstart? Also restricted by shock mounted near oil bag, so has to be low or short. Thanks!
ZLA Lemmy Jammer with a swingarm. We e-mailed back and forth last year. I can send you a current pic if that makes it easier. Thanks!
ZLA Lemmy thanks for remembering me Lemmy! I'll look for a Thunderheader and do not mind making up a bracket. The gas tank was solid mounted so ended up leaking. Made up a beer keg tank that has just enough volume to get me to work and back.
Yes you should they sound amazing
i see Lemmy i click like
So just make a baffle tube at da end of da drag pipes ?
What percentage power loss? My bike comes out maybe 100 miles a year. And I'm rather rough on it.
Action lab just explained the phenomenon
Nice gloves!
I just like rolling off the throttle and backfiring the entire time like a tyrant.
For longest time I thought that only Brazilians are ignorant fools but after reading some of the comments here I can see that USA has it's fair share too.
This issue was very well explained in only 2 minutes. Simple question, simple answer with simple enough explanation why. The whole issue would need hours of video to go through the mathematics and everything else that's going on when the engine is running.
Loved the video, was spot on.
hahahahaha Lemmy's glove tan.
Interesting, Lemster. So, chances are my Vance and Hines Long Shots on my FatBoy are actually robbing some horsepower? 🏍👍🏍
Some exhaust manufactures work with bike companies, I think Akra works with BMW. Otherwise, I think they spend a lot of R & D to make that particular exhaust work with the bike.
ZLA Lemmy ok gotcha- thx...
Paughco goose necks, lightly baffled and the goose neck at the end gives you back pressure for mid range, using them for years, according to the dyno they work better at full throttle than a straight drag pipe because the exhaust travels on a cushion of hot exhaust gases caught in the baffles which creates less friction,
Are my Vance and hines short shots considered drag pipes?
If you have the baffles in them, then no...if you’ve removed the baffles, then yes...
@@K9RickRet ah, yep I have the quiet baffles actually, but they are not very quiet....
LOL! I know what you mean! I have short shots on an ‘07 Heritage and put the “quiet” baffles in...not! 😄
Just like he said , if you have the baffles in them, then no they are not drag pipes... but those pipes do sound great and loud with the baffles in them
Welp guess it’s a good thing I rip my little 883 Iron for all it’s got. My ‘drag pipes’ are just gutted and de-catted factory pipes. Best free exhaust ever lol
lol me too, I ride at the top end ripping my 883 around like it's a 2 stroke dirtbike everywhere I go so I guess my drag pipes are perfect for the way I ride. I grew up on 2 stroke dirtbikes so it's just natural for me to ride like that and I live in a rural town with barley any traffic just open roads to tear up at my leisure.
I have a1977 sporster up stairs with drag pipes is it worth anything just quit riding and put it up stairs
What about ground pounders?
sweet glove tan lemmy lol
Jesus, Lemmy is handsome!
If you are only interested in performance, then do not run drag pipes. If you love the sound of drag pipes, then run drag pipes. I have drag pipes on my 99 Softail Custom, and I have plenty of low end torque. Everything is a trade off. I did have to increase the jet sizes to make up for the difference. But it pulls smoothly from idle to mid range. Not for everyone.
Compared to my 1942 flat head, "45", my EVO is still a power house.
Nice tan
whats better long baffles or short baffles?
Depends on the whole setup, cams, heads, pistons etc. There's no simple answer that works perfectly for every bike. If done right it's a quite bit of work. But that said, most of the aftermarket exhausts work relatively well bolt on as long as the bike is remapped after.
remapping only works on EFI. @@karibordi2082
@@glenwebster2481 I'm aware of that. If you have a carb you have a whole different set of hoops to hop from changing the jets to getting bigger carb altogether.
screamin eagle 44mm carb and Paughco 1-3/4″ Upsweep Fishtail Drag Pipes with 4" baffles thinking of going to 10" baffles @@karibordi2082
general question 4" VS 10" baffles running 4" now
@@karibordi2082
It’s so hard to listen to you because I keep focusing on those tan lines hahaha
There are ways around harmonica reversion AKA drag pipe sag. But you didn't care to explain that now did you?
Oh no the neighbors might get mad better not run em lol I just got some slip on tips removed the baffles and the bike runs great exactly what I needed my sportster 883 sounds so throaty now with no backfiring or and signs that it’s hurting the engine I also got a size #46!jet just in case. the power difference is not even noticeable
I run drag pipes on my 2002 Sportster bobber. However I put baffles in mine. They look totally like drag pipes. The bike runs good and hauls ass.
But the sound is so good.
What about thunder torque inserts from dk customs on drags?
Would shorty drag pipes damage the engine?
Without major rejetting, absolutely!
-Zack
@@RevZilla what is major rezetting
Nah, I don't need a long sleeve. - Lem.
If you ride your 883 like me ...yes you should run drag pipes.
Is it safe to remove the stock exhaust but just leave the stock pipes?
i watch them on 2x speed and then its a one minute lesson
Cool example, no to drag pipes 👍
or...yes to baffled drags
Put it on??
modding exhaust = instant warranty cancellation if the harley dealer is sketchy
LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES.
You can tell this guy rides with gloves :p
I didnt hear a word you said hippy hoop blah “eminem”
Loud pipes save lives
Why does robbed power matter at low RPM?
Little back pressure will give you better low and midrange throttle response drage pipes are meant for high rpm rev ranges is what he is saying in simpler terms
Jesus lemmy your hands look like your holding big marshmallows.
bHuT lEmY lOuD pIpEs SaVe LiVeS aNd i'M sO fAsT i NeEd TeH pOwEr!!1!
What about all the lives that wont be saved.
Loud pipes do save lives and alert other drivers
If Harley riders cared about power over looks and sound, they wouldn't have bought Harleys.
I dont see the problem with caring mainly about looks and sound. This like saying "I wish that Rolls Royce would take 2000lbs off the Wraith so it could preform better". Its still mainly a luxury car.
V-Twins are made to ride in wide open spaces for miles and miles. Not go 0-100 in under six seconds and only be ridden for a 100 miles a day. They are the Cadillac of the motorcycle world. Big and cumbersome.. But luxurious, comfy and designed for traveling site see-ers.
Yup thats it. Dragpipes and some muffles all day baby.
I disagree, proven fact that an engine with straight pipes that open up to a larger dimension increase horse power on the dyno and have no robbing of power anywhere in the rev cycle. This too is just propaganda being spread by manufacturers to sell more baffled pipes and slip-on's.
I don't know what dyno you were running but drag kill bottom and mid so you have no facts or proof. I've run hundreds of bikes on dynos. Jerry Branch divulged this 40 years a ago that increasing the diameter on a pipe makes no difference, , Conspiracy and propaganda that's funny as hell .
That needing back pressure for more horsepower is a myth busted a long time ago drag pipes to give more horsepower than any muffler even motor trend in engine Masters prove this more back pressure less horsepower granted drag pipes are allowed as shit
What about pollution ?
What about pollution? One decent California wildfire or volcano eruption puts more garbage into the air than all the combustion engines on the planet for the entire year so you need not worry.
Kkkkwhaddaloadofcrap
So be obnoxious and have drag pipes.
Well it's true. If you run drag pipes you become the butthead of your neighborhood. No one likes your drag pipes except people who like drag pipes. I have 42 in straight pipes on my 1970 xlch 900. I wanna ride at 3am and not have police following me.
No matter what you do to a Harley they are still slow short of a Turbo that is ..
Mike Skidmore-- give it a rest and let people be happy. Move along.
Man your fast talking video is just for american people speeking like you!!...
impossibile to fully understand WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!!
You couldn't be more wrong, if you were talking about wooden tires.
