    Recently switched to muffled exaust and saw the performance boost. But I'm going back to the drag pipe life, that sound is just unbeatable on a evo.

    I clicked on a link to this video from a forum just for S & G's. I'm not interested in drag pipes but had to watch the whole video for the sarcasm. Throwing them away and the guy running the Dyno laughing! Thank you! You guys are great!

    My Sportster had drag pipes . Previous owner installed them. I put baffles in to calm the bark a bit.
    I was able to locate a complete stock exhaust. Crossover, heat shields and in perfect condition. Put them on, never looked back.

    I have 1-3/4' drag pipes on my 99 Softail Custom with Kustom Krome bafflles. They sound really good with no dead spots. I like the looks and sound of drag pipes and I am 80 years old. Do not do a lot of racing these days. The baffles really increased the low end torque. Most cheap drag pipe baffles sound terrible, But these sound great. They just lower the exhaust note a little.

    I like the drag pipes on my 85 softail. I used torque cones and I think they made a little improvement in the low to mid range. Have not put it on a dyno though. I'm curious to see results on a dyno with the torque cones.

    I've been having midrange shutter on my 84 ironhead it doesn't help from what I'm told that the bike also has a super e carb and full drag pipes not ground pounders just long pipes I'm definitely going to try this short on money and can't afford the exhaust system that I'd like so we work with what we got fingers crossed I'm doing the thumb screw 90 degrees and sending her

    You can baffle drags slightly with washers and welded bolts onto it...lolly pop ...then drill a hole near the end of the pipe..nut and bolt.....and retain the exhaust sound with a bit of back pressue...experiment with different size washers...potatoe lollypops.

    I have an Intruder VS1400, I am not a fan of the quiet mufflers on there now, there are hardly any options for exhaust on this bike, but cobra has 2in drag with baffle, I have these on order,,,already on this bike is the K&N drop in, factoy pro jet kit and dyna 3000 ignition box,,,I am talking to 2 guys right now with almost the exact same setup and they both claim they gained performace all the way around with the cobra drags,,,,,,maybe on some bikes with their specific setup it works, others it may not,,,If these are all honest dyno runs then the numbers dont lie,,,,,within a couple weeks I should have it all setup and will report back on bikes performance, Im really curious how they will work out

    Thunder Monster baffles from Big City Thunder should solve that problem.... It's a lollipop baffle it's much like the thumb screw but not ghetto and not a full baffle either. Great company always willing to help with whatever they can or at least from my experiences 😁

    • @Diesel415
      @Diesel415  5 лет назад +2

      The problem is that the Thunder Monster baffles are still an exhaust obstruction. A properly tuned exhaust is free flowing yet cancels harmonic reversion and, if needed for reducing noise levels, can incorporate baffles that are also free flowing and don't obstruct the exhaust flow. Vance & Hines Grenades are a good example of a 'tuned' exhaust system as far as 2-2 go... the exhaust is stepped to increasingly sized bores that disrupt reversion waves yet allow exhaust gases to flow freely and have baffling at the ends to subdue the higher register overtones that are greatly responsible for making an exhaust sound obnoxious.

      @@Diesel415 very true I didn't think of it that way I'm basing my opinion on "feel on the seat" and my experiences... I wouldn't even come close to the knowledge you have & I can't prove anything since I don't own or use a dyno but I would have to agree that all makes sense! I always prefer tuned real exhausts over a drag pipe anyday but if I just HAD to have a drag I'd probably pick the TM baffles over no baffles or any other option but that's only if I REALLY needed a drag pipe and honestly I never need one LOL they are only for looks in my opinion not good for much else to the average rider lol

      @@WhitewaterOutdoors Agreed, if someone really wants drag pipes then lollipops or the Thunder Monster baffles are better than nothing, as Mr. Tessmer showed. I can't take credit for the vid, I was just lucky to stumble across it to help explain the concept that I learned from experienced racers/tuners.

    from a safety standpoint...drag pipes are heard alot better than muffled ones, its survival on the streets that count,, too many SUVs with soccer moms that dont pay attention with their windows rolled up and talking on their phones that can wipe you out in a minute! Ill take a loss of some mids and low end to get heard!

    They sell anti reversion cones for pipes, I would say for all pipes but specifically for straight pipes. Obviously S&S knows there shit BUT you never know the bias when a company is trying to sell an expensive product. I've ran both on a 80" shovel and it was gutless with tapered duals and ran like a bear with FLH drag pipes.... It had engine work previous to my purchase but extent was unknown it ran so good I couldn't bring myself to test anything apart just for my curiosity. I can say in a low rider with flh front end it would run with an. Evo fxr no problem with the typical big 3 carb cam and pipes. It would pull to 6500rpm and walk by other shovels in the 1/8th mile, I'm assuming stock with carbs n pipes. I sold it before ever finding out but it was a bad ass 80" shovel, could have been a small stroker or sidewinder kit?

    How to solve this is to re-jet your carburetor.

    • @Diesel415
      @Diesel415  4 года назад +2

      Nope... no jetting will resolve the problem with harmonic reversion... even this video proved that. But hey, keep your drag pipes and keep on keepin' on as I'm sure that's what you're a fan of.

      @@Diesel415 instead of buying new pipes what if i cut my drag pipes back straight and add a properly sized 2-1 collector and a cone muffler

    • @mickangio16

      And adjust main air bleed. I added a Thunderjet kit which part of the modification included adding an externally adjustable main system air bleed. I also re-sized accelerator pump squirter orifices for instant throttle response. This was on a Super E carb and 1-3/4" drag pipes on a 74" Shovelhead. That was after a whole lot of unsatisfactory experimenting with baffles, bolts, mufflers, even a two into one stock type pipe without a muffler... sorry, but I'm just not a believer in corking up an exhaust for better performance. I do have to admit, though, if not concerened with making as much power as you can get out of it the two into one pipe rode very nice but made the ride seem a bit boring. I also had experience with drag pipes on three different 1200 Sportsters with CV carbs.

      Yes. But straight pipes on a stock bike even with bigger jets it still makes less than a good tuned exuast. A 2 in to 1 is best
