It's not about the whiskey, it's the people you share it with!
#bourbon #whiskey #whiskeytube
When they do the cask strength of this it’s incredible - I had it as a OHLQ pick and it’s my favorite bottle of last year
Got a cask strength myself here in NC. Unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. In the hunt for something unique these days, this hits!
We have a cask strength barrel pick here in Colorado, love it!
I bought it on 9-6..I really like it, it's spicy and sweet but not the caramel sweet, great flavors from start to finish, I would totally recommend it to anyone!!!
Just bought a bottle today. Hard to find in GA. If it's what they say will grab the rest of the bottles.
I travel to Ohio alot and I'm going to try some of their rye and Bourbon next time I'm in Ohio. Thanks for the channel and great content. CHEERS!
Favorite sandwich is a Chicago Italian beef, soaked, with sweet peppers, hot giardiniera, and a few pepperoncini on the plate.
Giving Columbus some love and calling it your “hometown”, awesome! Middle West is a definite sleeper distillery that a lot of people aren’t familiar with. All of their products are excellent with their Michelone Reserve bourbon and especially their double cask collection leading the way. For the price this Pumpernickel Rye is a definite must have.
I discovered this whiskey about a year ago. It is excellent in Old Fashions, Manhattans, and Whiskey Sours. Just got the cast strength version and looking forward to trying it.
It is is fun and unique experience. Well worth trying. I find this year there are so many good ryes between Overholt 10 year & Mongahela, middle west rye, hard truth, sagamore spirits and many others this is the year of the rye come back. 😊
I was just there this past Saturday. Took the tour and ate at the restaurant, great experience on both. I have the straight wheat on my shelf at home, you should try that one out if you haven’t already 👍
This whiskey surprise the ship out of me. Great bottle to explore, so interesting.
Just picked up a second bottle can’t wait to crack it open
Love it. Picked up a bottle in MD based on the owner’s recommendation. Glad that I listened to him.
Classic Rueben, love the pumpernickel, great value, pick it up in IN.
FINALLY. I was actually looking for your review for this about 2 weeks ago and was disappointed not to find one. Thanks for putting one up!
Great video Jason. Favorite sandwiches are the muffaletta and the Monte Cristo. Can't pass those up if I see them on the menu. Also love Cubans and a good Philly cheese steak, if that counts, ha ha. Cheers!
Ty for the great review..I am a rye lover so I will gave to see if I can find a bottle of this here in North Dallas Tx
Reuban is my favorite sandwich on rye or pumpernickel.
I'm in Gahanna and still haven't taken their tour. I did pick up a pumpernickel rye and enjoyed it every now and then....quite unique to me.
Currently putting this in my close out bin
I have the Ported Pumpernickel which is a great pour, I have to pick up the Dark Pumpernickel 🥃🥃😎
The Bourbon Judge did a cask strength barrel pick of this and it was fantastic. I also love the cask strength Ported Pumpernickel Rye that they have released a couple times.
I like it a lot. Wish they sold the cask strength in New England
Their ported pumpernickel (regular or CS) are phenomenal and reason enough to never worry about having to find. MWND. My favorite of the double cask collection, happy to see so many SiB releases of their uni finished pumpernickel rye around these days too
Middle west has some great whiskey I have the sherry Cask finished bourbon 6 year and micheleone reserve bothe are great
I have a bottle of this, but haven't yet cracked it open. Looking forward to it. Pastrami reuben for the win!
Just picked up the Limited Release Distillery only 8yr Cask Strength Michelone Reseve at the Distillery May 15th. So delicious. Middle West is killing it.
Damn near everything these guys make is amazing. Great video, and thanks for including the random fact about what pumpernickel really means (it's one of my favorite food facts 😄)
With you, J, on the Katz! Many memories as a kid where my Dad and I would stop there for thick cut, house made pastrami on rye. Will never forget the sawdust on the bathroom floors to soak up all the piss. Lmao!
This bottle is fantastic.
Love their ported pumpernickel rye
Love Middle West offerings.
This sounds so interesting. I have not seen it yet if is see it ill have to give it a shot
Pumpernickel bagel is my favorite with some shmear! Would love to get a bottle of this in my collection!
Currently sipping a Middle West Spirits Double Cask Sherry Cask finished 97.25 proof batch no. 004 and it's definitely one of the best bourbons I've tasted in a long time.
Kind of partial to Katzinger's Reuben with one of their giant garlic pickles you have to fish out. I have the port pumpernickel rye and it is quite good. I need to slow down because I'm drinking it too fast. Cheers, Jason!
Love the Double Cask Collection
I have the same bottle but it is 124 proof, barrel pick here in Colorado Springs Colorado. I love it!
This! Picked up two bottles. One of my favorites for the year so far.
Excellent bottle! Erin at Stuff & Whiskey talked about it. I had to get it on a Dallas road trip. I recently got the wheated, it's delicious as well. I want to get a Ported Pumpernickel Rye and an Oloroso Wheated. Enjoyed the video. SLAINTE 🥃
All time favorite sandwich is the Italian Grinder from Sausage Deli in Tucson AZ.
Katz deli is amazing...now I want the pastrami on rye from there again
It's hard to beat a good Cuban sandwich but yours sounds like it would be worth a trip to try cuz that sounds incredible!!!
I have a single barrel cask strength of this. It’s amazing!!
Their Cask Strength Picks are bomb! Also my favorite sandwiches would be either a Cudan or the Hawaiian from The Earl of Sandwich at Disney. It's got pork, pickles, pineapple, bbq sauce.
Love the green hat!
Love the unique nature of this one, though have to say that I'm a much bigger fan of the barrel proof offering if you can find it. Have to caveat that I'm a fan of higher proofs, but in general this dark pumpernickel is such an interesting profile. Cheers!
I've passed on the bottle a few times but for $45 and your recommendation I am going to pick one up. Now for the sandwiches, summertime it's a BLT with the T being vine ripe and juicy and the cooler months a nice fat rueben or an oyster po' boy!
Might have to give it a try! I really enjoy a toasted spicy Italian or a classic Ruben sandwich!
Muffuletta from Central Grocery in NOLA is the best sammich.
This is great whiskey! So glad they fought to distribute to Alabama.
Best sandwich for me may be a Reuben, but a Cuban is right up there too.
Picked up a cask strength of this earlier this year and it drinks HOT. I almost always prefer cask/barrel proof, but I wish I had gone with the proofed down one here.
Just add some water to bring down the proof! It’ll last longer that way too.
I love this series! Please keep doing it!
I need to find this. Thanks Jason
I have a Seelbach’s cask strength pick that is absolutely delicious
Cuban sandwich done in Miami…. The best!!!
pastrami with swiss cheese and sauerkraut. Best sandwich ever. On pumpernickel. Of course.
If you like cured meats, next time you're in Indy, you gotta check out Shapiro's Delicatessen. Corned Beef and Swiss on Rye with hot mustard. Phenomenal.
Corned beef on rye with a slather of yellow mustard and a Dr. Brown's Cream Soda.
Had this confused with their 5 year ported pumpernickel, that was going for a hundred bucks had to pass but it definitely sparked my curiosity
Love their cask strength Rye ….
- RC
Appreciate the review. Love Middle West
This the standard is solid, but the cask strength is DELICIOUS
To go cask strength or not to go cask strength. That is the question I am wrestling with!!!!
Binny's has it on sale, but not near me. Favorite sandwich is my Italian Sub, I only use good and quality meat.
I saw that. The picture on the Binny's website is of a 3 year old whiskey. I wonder if it first was released as a 3 year and then later released as a 4 year. Which makes me wonder if Binny's put it on discount because it's an earlier 3 year still on the shelf.
Favorite sandwich is a Ruben
Chicken curry sandwich=`the devils fart`😁 I`d try that pumpernickel rye in a heartbeat, sounds interesting Jason, cheers.
roast beef and swiss - cheers!
I drive a semi through Columbus every week on my way to NY from Arizona and back to Arizona.
Corned beef and Swiss on rye with deli mustard.
Yeeesssss
Love a reuben
What do you think of the 5 year ported dark pumpernickel rye? Just picked one up last week, but haven’t opened it yet.
I thought black licorice was anise. Fennel seed is one of the spices in Italian sausage. 7:28
Am I off base here?
Yes it is but gives off an anise like flavor.
@@TheMashandDrum I will have to chew on a seed that hasn't been in sausage yet. Thank you
Black licorice is made with extract from the licorice root, Glycyrrhiza glabra. Its flavor is reminiscent of fennel or anise.
Tacos or burritos my favorite sandmich
Rachel. Reuben sub turkey and coleslaw.
Classic Rueben. Best in my world.
Mine is probably a piping hot philly cheese steak with double cheese 😋😋
How is this vs the Ported Pumpernickel Rye they have?
Local deli here makes one hell of a Rachel, and their Rebecca is closing in on it.
On a Cuban kick myself. Cheers 🥃
My facorite sandwish is a footlong hotdog
I would like a series of Ohio distilleries.
The “Devils Fart”?? Sounds like a barrel pick tater sticker in the making
Have you ever reviewed any whiskeys from NY distilleries? I know about Widow Jane and Kings County.
Hillrock I think
@@TheMashandDrumJason, next time you are in Bardstown Kentucky, stop at Mammy's and get the BLT sandwich. Best BLT I have ever had.
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
My favorite sandwich is a hot dog.
Club Sandwich
A Reuben Sandwich!!!
And I love The Middle West Whiskeys. The Barrel Proof Pumpernickel Rye is out of this world.
Cubans all day followed by a good Rueben!!! Didn’t care for that bottle though…
Rueben
Best sandwiches are roast beef and gravy with Swiss or seafood poboy. An actual poboy from new Orleans, not a northern version
3:48 mashbill. Didn't realize this was 5% wheat.
