- Someone gave me a nVidia Quadro k4200 kepler based GPU to fool around with and I was kinda sorta impressed when this low powered professional workstation CAD GPU could game in 2017... Well sorta kinda of...

"Can it game?!"
- Doesn't show any gaming videos

Glad I found this video. LOL I just built a new system (my first) with this card, and was wondering if I could play games on it as well. Oh, and I watercooled mine.
Keep doing that kind of videos, it's really interesting.
Patiently waiting for the give away, more hype and value than Vega!
I admit, the first video of yours I watched I was like "WHY am I still watching this guy" but frankly, now that I've watched a few more, I really like your style - and I'm seeing you do stuff i didn't think people did (opening video cards and doing stuff to make them work differently/better)...so yeah, I like your channel.
I really appreciate your channel and wish you the best of luck! Out of all the other channels you seem more real and genuine not like you're just being produced!
You should make videos on how to look for deals in the marketplace with advice on what to do and not to do. Also, maybe some videos helping to educate us on things. Like, what all these benchmarks mean and why people use them, etc. I could flesh out these ideas more if you'd like.
Can you educate me after 6 year I have same questions
I game on this, plays most games on high around 40-60fps for me so I'm happy with it. Really good for solidworks and it's quite stable. I mostly CAD and I'm a pretty casual 1080p gamer so I stopped bothering switching my 970 in a while ago and just use the K4200 for everything. Good intro card for students and people learning CAD who don't want to put alot of money into it. A K4000 is also a good option (3g of ram, like $15-20 cheaper).
do you know if this will work well with blender 2.8 and with cycles?
@@Rctdcttecededtef - Not sure, I don't have blender

the future is here
I don't understand why these cards actually sell because they can only do one program better than a GTX 1070 8g which rapes these cards in their job!
I understand some programs and error correction .. very impressive for a card to produce great visuals and running programs flawlessly.. but a GTX 1070 can run it far better so why buy it?
Breaking ground on future . Have Fun !!!
My answer is yes. it can game.
Where do you get these random graphics cards?
hey friend good video, i have a quadro k5100m and the games say me drivers are not compatibility with the game. its COD Warzone, any drivers for this cards can run this game
can by used for mining ?... nicehash... ?
I love how Finn was holding up the GPU
Quadro is a corporate use rebrand (essentially and will use highest setup components). The K4200 is a GTX 670
^This
No its not i have it and i get like 300-400 fps i fortnite
Any one in 2021 :(
2023
Isn't this the Hers pers Guy from Donut Media?
I work at a small architecture firm and we had two of these in a little sever we use for processing our 3D renderings, when they were upgrading I bought it from them for 20 bucks and threw it into HTPC to play rocket league, but I think it might be dying but for these last 5-6 months it worked great so what the hell! It was 20 bucks
Your background is filling up with geek swag. SWEET!
I Looked at the specs on a PC at my Academy. It had a dual socket board with two 10 core Xeon, and two Quadro 4000s. Pretty impressive
My quadro k4000 3gb runs devil may cry 5 on default settings with an old nvidia driver. I get 30 fps on cut scenes and 50 fps plus on game play. Which is very playable. Gets at times a bit slow motion on boss fight but no fps drop. Fortnite 60 fps plus textures epic , distance epic, shadows medium, anti anailizing epic, Effects off and post off. Quadro k4000 3gb wont be able to play the next generation of graphics, that will come up with playstation 5 and the other xbox. Quadro k4000 3gb came up in the same age of PS4. Games below ps4 graphics quadro plays them on ultra ,60 fps plus. Quadro k4000 3gb its 10% less in gaming compare to gtx 1050. This is from my experience. If you are a gamer obsessed with graphics quadro it's not for you. But if you are interested to play the game and have fun without those fancy effects, quadro will do that for you. If you bought used workstation thats great! You can game , you can work.
I looked a buying this card a while back and now I think I might get one or two for my older system that I want to keep so I can get rid of the old and cranky cards that I'm running crossfire now. It seems like these cards will give you a comfortable gaming experience without breaking the bank. I always assumed that if it is good enough for CAD, then it should game pretty well. Thanks for the informative video.
I just bought one for £38 for my HP z440 workstation haha
I'm your 1k like

Anyone knows how a quadro k4000 would perform?
Anyone knows why it gives an error 43 with quadro K4000 ?
Hey Timmy how did you overclock that i5 3470 to 4Ghz?
Quadro's have slowly been regaining popularity because if you are running a Plex server (media) most Nvidia cards are limited (because drivers) to transcode (convert) video/audio (IE. 4k to 720p) at 2 streams. Quadro's handle multiple streams at once (due to unlocked drivers), Currently many people are using Quadro P2000 but some are using other Quadro models and unable to get benchmarks (how many transcodes it can do at once) if using those other models. (Which brought me to your site initially)....Possible video idea???
Gtx 1060 to 1070 performance in a SUPER slim profile
There is a slim 1070
Its no way near as good as even a 1060
More like a GTX 760
That's based on GTX 670.
That is a driver frame cap... Go on Tech Inferior, not Level*Bullshit*Tech......Ask them about the drivers
Did you try flasking or modding it to the gaming counterpart of the same chip, I was wondering if I could do that with my quadro k2200, would be a cool video to see.
Something is really wrong with those Blender numbers. My own 1070 does it in 3 minutes which leads me to believe that you accidentally ran the CPU benchmark which is unoptimised for GPUs due to the bucket size.
The best way to explain it is that the program breaks up the frame into regions that get attack by the GPU or CPU and its threads. Smaller bucket sizes such as 32x32 pixels are better for CPUs as it has multiple cores and threads which can quickly render each tiny region then jump to the next. GPUs need fewer, larger bucket sizes such as 256x256 pixels as the software overhead means that the GPUs are slower to transition from bucket to bucket then begin the actual rendering process itself. I just tried running the CPU benchmark using my 1070 and it took roughly as long as your render time but slightly better as I have a Firepro driving the display.
I just bought one for 31$
Hi,
how many live streaming channels can be transcode with this cad quadro k4200 256-bit 4gb?
yes :-), its a kepler thing :-) this is kepler based card, it is in the neighborhood of GTX 7xx cards
idk why I find it funny seeing the guy pointing at a gpu with exposed pcb, calling it high end
If you happened upon one of these cards, wouldn't it be better to sell it and buy a 1060/1070? Loving your videos, keep up the good work.
Sli... where???
That's an expensive 1070
Got one of these used for my art PC though myne has 3 GB GDDR5.
iv got a gtx 780 (also kepler) that trounces all over that card
Can you show a graph or game play with Fraps
Timmy Joe I must missed because I go out of order I look for graphs and charts then listen to your explanation
I have a bunch of old hardware. How do I get a hold of you? I'm in Ontario Canada
Paulo Meneses could you sell me some I'm in the UK
Paulo Meneses what kind of old hardware?
When you showed that doom footage and that imp demon could be glory killed and you just shot it again really annoyed me
*U N S U B S C R I B E D*
In the event you still have the quadro, I'm curious if there is any benefit to installing it solely as a CUDA card. There's an option in the Nvidia control panel for what handles the CUDA processing, so in theory, you should be able to dedicate it to the physics (which it was probably designed for) and let your main card handle the game's graphics (which is definitely not what the quadro was designed for)
wow an i5 3570 has an actual 4 ghz clock speed!!!!!
If video games were optimized for quadro cards, they would have more frames per second on average, but the video games are made and optimized for consoles which use different computer architecture
Fernando Salazar no, that's not how it works. On pc a gpu is a gpu, there is no optimization going on with gpu itself. All gpus work pretty much the same. It only comes down to the power of the card and the optimization of the game in general.
It preforms very similar to the hd 6870
Give me a graphic card am lacking it 😎😎😎😎
This for $150. Buy or not?
Show us more gameplay footage with frames and CPU temps
Will this work good for GoPro fusion studio? I need a GPU for video editing. My motherboard is an ASROCK Q1900M. Thanks
Any Good gpu can work for it, just check if the Gopro fusion have hardware accelaration, try to check that first. I will recomend a rtx 2070[Over kill if its not 4K] Or a Good amd card, they are cheaper
stick that proprietary cooler on it then go and overclock it
this card is based on the GTX 670.
Too much fluff, not enough stuff
can i pair this with ryzen 3 2200g?
daddy can u please review the old beast Quadro 5800?
How can I mod nvidia Q2000m for gaming
The video is too long man plz montage
underrated youtuber
Little on the expensive side but great video as usual.
I subscribed to your channel. Great video
I kinda of like this setup pretty good man.
Is this good with obs
Hey Tim, nice vid. Can it run two 4k monitors at 10 bit for photoshop?
Yes. No issues
Papriyana sonica !!!
Did you test it in NVLink?
Why is everyone trying to play games on rendering cards
ベストPaull coz we used to play games in the office while working
Flash it to a GTX 670 4GB?
I got a guy asking for 180 dollars for this card. Seems a little to high for Feb 2019. What do you say the card is worth today?
It's March now but that should be 100-125.
K4000 but K4200 that is alright.
Found 4 k4000s locally 2 bucks each, guy had no idea about what hes selling
How well can it play ARK?
So this Card is basically a low powered GTX 670 4GB ... guess it's in the range of a RX 560 / GTX 1050
I have been really confusen on which way to go on graphics cards. I use video and graphics software from adobe (premiere, Ae, Ps, Ai, Id, media encoder), 3D modeling software like Autodesk Maya and MudBox and CAD/CAM software fusion360 for the most part. And gaming is not the target for this PC-workstation that I would like to build. I am mostly just an inthuast so I am not going for money-aint-no-thing route, but I would like to build a solid rig and am ready to throw money at it. The craphics card is the most difficult choice. Should I buy like the top notch gaming graphics card or a reasonably priced mid-range quadro like this one on the video. In addition I have been trying to compare nVidia Quadros in respect to AMD firepros if there is some bang-for-buck difference or something in there to help my decision, but I cant just make clear of them. The performance between them seems to vary greatly between software or even settings run on them. I was earlyer going for a mid range Quadro or firepro, but now I am coming to a conclusion that the only real customers of quadros and firepros are bigger design firms who order their setups from some PC firm or assembler and they just throw a Quadro in there cause "a workstation must have a Quadro" and the design firm doesnt really care cos money aint a thing. And youtube dont really have any extensive testing done between gaming and workstation cards on this kind of "workstation" software like 3D/CAD/CAM/adobe stuff. Linus did one on premiere pro but that doesnt really tell me anything cos its only one program. Does anyone really have some info or experience on this?
I am not sure if you have made a decision yet but to quickly throw my two cents in here as an owner of the Firepro w9100.
It kicks the ass of a Titan X Maxwell and GTX 1070 in Maya 2016 scenes with thousands of objects and millions of polygons. They will offer much higher FPS in simple scenes but you do not need 300+ fps when modeling a toothbrush. This 3D model of mine ( theshadowhisperer.deviantart.com/art/Wraith-Reaper-Finished-630027204 ) has 1209 objects and 2,694,691 polygons before subdivision. The two Geforce cards will display it at 200+ fps but will take 1-2 seconds every time you want to pan, rotate, or zoom the viewport, plus it can take up to 3 seconds to select or manipulate any of the objects. The Firepro, while only drawing the viewport at 90FPS, will do all of the above instantly. It is a combination of poly and object counts that bring a Geforce of Radeon card to its knees whereas optimized drivers allow the pro cards to operate under these niche conditions.
Plus they often have more VRAM than an equivalently powered card which is always a plus.
Immitem Hey thanks! :D That actually helps! I have been postponing building due to money not being in my pocket, so this problem persists and this actually is the first informative piece of information on the subject! Thanks! So you say that there is a huge difference in modeling? :) im actually glad to hear that. And you seem to be a happy owner of a firepro? Cause earlier I was just about to buy a firepro w7100 but then I read a lot of bashing about firepros (quadro people propably) and left the idea of buying and been confused ever since. But you would say that it would be worth the money to invest in a firepro (w7100 or greater) given the programs that I specified? :)
Go with either an AMD wx7100 or Quadro P4000. They are both in roughly the same price range and will out-perform a consumer card with similar specs by a wide margin in intense scenes. If you only intend to do simple scenes with not that many models (less than a hundred objects and a million polygons) then it would be a waste of money and you would see no benefits over a consumer card.
Immitem Wow nice that was nicely put! :D Thank you so much! :)
gratz on the 10k timmy joe!
At 5:38, the average frame rate is higher than maximum in gta v? Lmao

"I make videos about computers on the internet." Could just drop it to "I make videos about computers," since we all know we're connected to the internet in order to watch these videos (so it's just redundant) and with that phrasing it _sounds_ like your videos are about: "computers on the internet." Of course, I know what you _mean_ - I just mention it because it was probably the fourth time you started a video with the phrase and thought you might start using it as your regular intro.
Also, glad you included the GTX 1070 results with the Blender benchmark. I know a big draw to the Quadro cards is the certified drivers for CAD and such, but was curious how GeForce compared to Quadro on a pure performance stance ignoring the precision portion.
stop speaking
You deserve more subs
yeah, vulkan doesn't change a thing with kepler. still using a 780 myself, damn good card still.
